Masterlist and guide
This is really cute, and while I ended up with Masamune, Kojuro seems sweet too.
Ok let's look at my options for my next route. I'll group those who have shared starter routes.
Act 1, Radiance:
Mitsuhide (done) and Nobunaga (no)
Yukimura(done) and Saizo (maybe)
Masamune(yes) and Kojuro (maybe)
Hideoyshi(probably not) and Toshiie(no)
Ieyasu(no) and Mitsunaru(maybe)
Shingen(maybe) and Kenshin(probably not)
Shigezane(maybe?)
Nobuyuki(maybe?)
Act 1, Shadow:
Sasuke(eh) and Sakuya (yes)
Hanzo(eh) and Genya (maybe?)
Hotaru (mixed feelings) and Kyoichiro (no idea)
Act 2: Mitsuhide or Yukimura. I like these guys but I'm not really into established relationship stuff.
HMMMMM. Masamune and Kojuro it is!
MC is surprised, first to recognise Masamune as a regular from her restaurant, and then to hear the servants muttering about how scared they are of him. She asks and is told he never smiles, and is rumoured to be a cannibal, with a demon in his right eye that make him crave human blood. He's said to leave noone alive after battle, killing women, children and even dogs. She's warned to avoid the little house to the south side of the castle, since that's where he lets the demon loose.
That night he's too busy staring at the floor to recognise her. He's blank and non-responsive, when back at the restaurant he was quiet but polite. *autistic headcanon intensifies*
MC: ...this food smells off.
Retainer: No it doesn't. Just eat it and do your job!
Umeko the maid: Stop! A mouse that ate some of the food just died!
(Is there an Umeko in every castle? Or is she just a very busy maid/spy?)
Kojuro: We have caught the cook with a vial of poison. How shall we deal with him?
Masamune: However you see fit.
Kojuro: Understood. Nicely done, Yahiko :) (MC's pseudonym)
Masamune: *takes one bite of new food* You have all done well for us. *leaves*
That night MC lays awake, hungry and fully dressed, in a room full of male servants, all "Maybe I didn't think this cross dressing thing through...".
She gets up for a snack and follows a delicious smell...and realises she's at a little house south of the castle, and can see Masamune inside, cooking. Before she can turn back, she feels a blade at her throat, and hears Kojuro coldly asking what she's doing here.
She haltingly explains, and eventually tells them about coming to the castle to save her brother, though not that she's crossdressing.
Masamune uses very few words but Kojuro always knows what he means. He indicates to give her an onigiri, and she's very grateful...until she tastes how salty it is. Seeing her distress, Kojuro goes to throw it away, but she insists she can fix it if Masamune will let her use his kitchen.
Masamune is very reluctant to eat her cooking, but happy and hungry when he finally does. Is he too paranoid about poison to eat properly?
Let's look these guys up! Masamune was born in 1567, and Kojuro in 1557, so in 1564 they'd be...-3 and 7 respectively. I think I'll think of them as 20 something and 30 something.
You know what, I'm bored and out of scenes, let's do everyone. I'll include birth year and how old they were in...let's say 1585, since it's a nice number and the youngest would be 17. No link means they seem to have been made up by SLBP.
Shingen Takeda 1521, 64
Mitsuhide Akechi 1528, 57
Kenshin Uesugi 1530, 55
Nobunaga Oda 1534, 51
Hideyoshi Toyotomi 1537, 48
Toshiie Maeda 1538, 47
Hattori Hanzo 1542, 43
Ieyasu Tokugawa 1543, 42
Kojuro Katakura 1557, 28
Mitsunari Ishida 1559, 26
Saizo Kirigakure 1563, 22 (he's fictional, but SLBP says he's 4 years older than Yukimura)
Masamune Date 1567, 18
Yukimura Sanada 1567, 18
Shigezane Date 1568, 17
Fictional:
Sarutobi Sasuke
Fujibayashi Sakuya
Fujibayashi Genya
Kirigakura Hotaru
Narukami Kyoichiro
Obviously this isn't their actual ages, I mean some of them were dead by 1585, but I still find it interesting and it's as good a point of comparison as any. Also it's just...kind of funny imagining childhood friend Toshiie being 47, etc.
Also I looked up the heights in the SLBP character descriptions and most are 5'8"-5'10", with a few at 6', and Shingen at SIX FOOT SIX. EDIT: A helpful commenter pointed out this was a miscalculation and he's actually 6'1".
Anyway. After seeing how ridiculously earnest MC is, Masamune and Kojuro decide she isn't a spy, and swear her to secrecy. Kojuro helps her with the dishes and Masamune asks her what reward she wants.
MC: Seeing you enjoy my food is reward enough!
Kojuro: If you protest too much we'll find it suspicious :)
MC: ...I would like to have my own room.
I've been making whatever choices seem the most appealing and am 100% leaning towards Masamune points-wise. Which is fine by me, Kojuro is nice but not very exciting thus far.
The next day she's summoned to Masamune...and asked to cook him something for dinner in his secret house. When she asks Masamune about his preferences he gets grumpy and cold and says it's up to her, so she decides to cook the food he liked at the restaurant.
While buying ingredients, MC encounters the maid Umeko being harassed and rushes to save her, drawing away her harassers. *ships it*
The creepy dudes catch MC and tear her top, revealing her bound chest. Just when things looks dire, Kojuro shows up and coldly scares them away. Kojuro just seems mildly exasperated, so MC thinks he didn't notice her chest, but I think he must have just figured it out already. He says he'll help her finish shopping to keep her out of further trouble, and helps her with the cooking (though he's not much of a cook).
Kojuro good naturedly teases Masamune about how much he's enjoying the food (all his old faves from the restaurant), and Masamune half smiles. Then he asks to speak to MC alone.
Masamune: Wait. You said your family had a restaurant in Kyoto...Is it the one I'm thinking of?
MC: Um, well... *gets distracted by how pretty his eye is in the moonlight*
Masamune: Are you...the daughter?
MC: ...I-I'm her twin!! People sometimes say I look like a girl...but I'm a boy!
Masumune: Ah. Forgive me if you were hurt by my mistake.
Aw, and now she feels like a jerk for lying.
MC: My sister mentioned you to me.
Masumune: She did?! o.O
Oh gosh he totally has a crush on MC yet somehow doesn't recognise her.
And then he GIVES MC A HAIRPIN FOR 'HER SISTER'. Because she mentioned the broken hairpin from her dad as part of the tale of woe. (Though I guess he didn't know it was the same family as MC-the-waitress until just now)
Masamune: I can't imagine how upset she must be to have lost it...this is the least I can do for her.
MC: So this is for me...I mean, my sister?
omg MC. But since he is apparently as earnestly dumb as her, he just gives a small smile and asks her to make him dinner again the next day.
That night, MC thinks about how her cooking is keeping her strong, and dreams of Yahiko promising to take care of their mother.
We see Kojuro tell Masamune "I followed him all day...and I think you are right". HMM. So does Masamune know after all?
AWWW what they verified is that she has a sense of justice and should become a page instead of a poison taster! She becomes the page of whoever's route I'm on, namely...Masamune!

Date: 2020-03-31 10:56 am (UTC)I think Kojuro not being very exciting is his thing. I've done a lot of his event stories and he's always decent, reliable, dependable and low-drama. I think I'll want to do his route eventually.
ETA Also it's just...kind of funny imagining childhood friend Toshiie being 47, etc.
Then MC would have to be about that age too...Mitsunari's route has comments about her being older than him, I hadn't imagined her as *that* much older but it's fun to think about.
