Yep, I am shipping it pretty hard. Dragging the story out like this is PAINFUL though.

Ok I said the last post was Episodes 1-4 but it turns out the last bit I did was actually Episode 4 Part 1 and now I have to do Episode 4 Part 2.

Since I have nothing better to do while I wait, let's look up Wikipedia for these dudes, that should be funny.

Ooh Oichi got married in 1564, I have a date! Ok, it's probably not accurate since from what [personal profile] waterscroll said the game also covers what would have been their deaths in the 1580s and I assume it doesn't take 20 years in-game to get there. But it's as good a date as any.

Oichi is 17. She actually looks about right!

Mitsuhide is 36. Wikipedia's only picture is a faded image from 200 years later so I guess no-one knows what he looked like. Which means the game COULD be right! If he, like...had some unfortunate accident that caused him to cut off all his hair >.>

Nobunaga is 30 and Wikipedia has a photorealistic painting and it is. AMAZING. BALDING WITH A BIG OLD MOUSTACHE. I LOVE IT. I didn't know Japanese dudes in that era even DID big moustaches.

I drew fanart :D

OK LET'S GET OUR DAILY SLIVER OF STORY FOR TODAY

MC expects to be going home now that she's done tutoring Oichi, so I wonder what'll stop her. I mean Nobunaga DID give that whole YOU ARE MINE UNTIL YOU DIE speech but I get the impression he agreed to the change of plans.

Haaa. He did, but the moment she gets back is all "GOOD NEWS YOU GET TO KEEP WORKING FOR ME :D". Little shit. She politely tries to back out but he just reminds her she agreed to being owned by him forever.

Her new job is meeting with the Europeans Fransisco and Luis! They've been showing up a bunch outside of the actual story to explain points etc, it'll be interesting to actually meet them as proper characters.

MC: Please, Mitsuhide, I was promised I could go home. And I was only happy here because I was with Oichi :(

Aww I hope MC and Oichi see each other again :(

Misuhide acts as if she didn't say anything and she resigns herself to her fate: Mitsuhide may be kind, but he is still a samurai, and still sees her as a pawn to be used to further Nobunaga's ambitions.

And I am out of tickets. But it's time for a story mission!

Fransico and Luis explain about training to get skill points, which seems to work exactly like Trysts to get Event Points except with it's own separate points and energy meters. I needed 100 to pass and got 250 on my first go, so, that's not so bad. I also won a Kochiro sound clip which I can't get to play, woo.

Alas I'll still need Love Tickets to actually see any more plot. SEE YOUSE ALL TOMORROW I GUESS.

I decided I might as well try out the start of another Event Route, so played Saizo until the point where I'd have to spend coins. It was fine, but not interesting enough to bother spending coins on. He's a taciturn cold secretly-kind type, while lord Kenyo is warm, confident and lordly. But now my event energy doesn't seem to be resetting! Oh well, I guess that means I can stop bothering with the event at all. EDIT: It started working again a few hours later, and then never worked again, weird.

I'm logging in every few hours to "train with allies" which gets me skill points as well as a chunk of coins and onigiri. Spending Onigiri on Mitushide has mostly gotten me stuff like pearls and tickets.

Cook: Are you SURE the Europeans won't eat this lovely fish raw? It seems such a shame to cook it ;_;

Aw MC has been avoiding Mitsuhide, she feels weird around him now she's decided he's as ruthless as Nobunaga and his kindness to her is just because he thinks she'll be useful.

Mitsuhide: Can I help with the cooking?
MC: Samurai don't belong in the kitchen!
Mitsuhide: :(

She feels bad and relents, and he follows her orders perfectly, proving himself quick to learn and very helpful. He asks to take the leftovers to those too low down the hierarchy to attend the dinner, then apologises for going along with her being forced to stay, and thanks her for all the help she's done him and Nobunaga. MC decides he is in fact a sincere sweetie, and I agree.

HMMM...so I THINK the love tickets I won through onigiri etc are separate to the ones that reset every day, so I can just keep them aside. I guess I'll wait and see, at worst I wasted a day.

Yep! Cool.

Luis and Fransisco are very friendly and nice, though they nearly cause a diplomatic incident when they refuse to eat sushi, until MC quickly cooks it with some hot tea.

The Europeans have left but now MC has effectively become Mitsuhide's page, and she wonders if she'll ever be allowed to go home. That said, she does enjoy spending quiet time hanging out with Mitsuhide. An old, boisterous samurai called Katsuie shows up.

Katsuie: I'm stealing Yahiko again!
Mitsuhide: :(

Hah he's using MC as an example of brave quick thinking manhood the other pages should aspire to.

Katsuie, whispering: Though between you and me, I wouldn't go against Lord Nobunaga too often., Off with your head and all that.
MC: I'll bear it in mind (Like I did the previous 20 times you told me that...)

He's scatterbrained and drunk but very sweet, introducing her to all the other samurai, which makes her feel more and more at home. She thinks about how alcohol brings out men's true natures. Ooooh are we going to see drunk Mitsuhide...

"MC is unaware of the storm of jealousy brewing amongst the others" DUN DUN DUN

Nobunaga holds a sumo competition and "seems to enjoy seeing his retainers in their loincloths".

MC is cornered by some of the other retainers who demand she take off her kimono and fight them.
MC: I'm not really the brute strength type, if you'll excuse me I'm supposed to be serving tea...

They pick her up and mock her for screaming like a girl...and her kimono opens to reveal her bound chest.
MC: Well, time to die I guess :(
Mitsuhide: What is this?! >:(
Retainer: We just...wanted to do some sumo...
Mitsuhide: If you want a fight you have found it! *picks him up and slams him into the ground, then proceeds to effortlessly beat up all the others*
Me and MC: ...hot...

Nobunaga: That's enough violence, Mitsuhide.

I wonder if he's ever said THAT before.

And then Mitsuhide silently picks MC up and carries her to his room. Ok!

He starts wiping her down with a cloth, despite her embarrassed protests, saying he needs to check for injuries and he shouldn't have let her out of his sight.

Mitsuhide: This is all my fault for trying to keep you a little closer to hand. I just drew you into the line of fire.
MC, putting her hand on his as he cleans her leg: No, I appreciate how much you help me.

He bandages her up and it's very shippy.

Aww, Katsuie is all "How did a woman end up here, you poor thing" and when she explains her story bursts into tears and says she's amazing and formidable, then gives her a hug.

But the other retainers are pissed off, they always resented her special treatment and think she's making a mockery of the samurai.

Ranmaru: Yeah they resent me too, for being Nobunaga's favourite :(

Wait, 'favourite' as in...

Oooh, apparently Ranmaru/Nobunaga is a well established canon RPF slash ship in Japan. In this canon he clearly adores Nobunaga, and Nobunaga seems about as fond of him as he is of anyone that isn't himself.

That puts a different slant on the scene where he comes across Nobunaga skeezing onto MC.

And if this story is set in 1564 he is...1 year old. HMM. And wow, the poor kid was only 17 when he died in 1582. When Nobunaga was 47... HMMM let's just headcanon Ranmaru as 17 now and not think about how old Nobunaga is >.>

Nobunaga: Here are the men who humiliated you yesterday. What would you like to do with them? Shall we kill them :D

(She says no)

Mitsuhide persuades Nobunaga that MC isn't safe here now people know she's a woman, and should be sent home after their next battle. MC feels conflicted: she wants to see her family, but she'll miss Mitsuhide.

Before the battle, Mitsuhide gives a speech about how the men should be inspired by her Absolute Victory Bowl (an auspicious meal invented by her dad), and afterwards the retainers who resented her come up and apologise, and praise her cooking.

She finds Mitsuhide sitting by himself, looking sad. She worries about him in the upcoming battle, but he promises he'll come back to her.

(I want them to kisss but I have to waaaait)

I needed 8000 skill points for a check, but had plenty.

After the battle Nobunaga is PISSED because Oichi's husband betrayed them, causing massive casualties, and he's determined the kill the guy regardless of the consequences for Oichi.

Weird creepy message from Tokugawa Ieyasu, who I have never met before, saying to live for him?? Ah, it's his birthday event or something. No thanks, dude.

Haa the main screen is usually Mitsuhide smiling and saying something nice related to the latest scene. But today it was Inuchiyo, which took me aback for a second until I realised he was saying "You're important to Mitsuhide", and then the next time I went to that screen it was this:
A busy screen with a very flowery pink user interface. From the top: a little chibi woman's face, labelled Rei. 14 pearls, zero energy. Menu button. An info bar saying tap here for cast overview. A small ad saying coming soon! Last Lover Standing ullsutrated with little chibi warlords. An alert for 2 info messages. Nobunaga coolly saying if you don't stop talking, I'll cut your throat. Buttons saying train kills and continue reading, with a little 5. A tool bar wih back, home, castle, on now, refresh and support buttons.

The tonal contrast between the content and the packaging in this game is certainly something.

I guess it's these two since Mitsuhide is away at the point in the story I'm up to. That's a nice little detail, and I guess it wouldn't be too hard to write a couple of custom home screens for every block of 5 scenes.

(I changed my MC's name to Rei Tailor after the protagonist of I Favour the Villainess. I might change it to Rei Palpatine. I want the given name to be Japanese since it's used in-game, but the full name is seen by other players so I like the idea of something funny)

MC is angrily thinking about how much samurai suck when Mitsuhide arrives home. He helps her onto his horse, so she can make it back to the victory feast. She's glad to see him, but also thinking about how he's a samurai too, and how wrong it feels to celebrate when so many have died, and will die, possibly including Oichi. He guesses how she feels and says she doesn't have to come.

She attends, but seeing everyone congratulating Mitsuhide on his battle tactics makes her mixed feelings worse. He sees that she's upset and slips away with her to sit quietly and chat. He is clearly sad, too, yet feels that as a samurai it's his duty to follow orders.

As it becomes time to return, he helps her up, but her heart is beating so hard at their proximity that she slips. He catches her, and then tightens his arms around her, saying "I misssed you". She says "I missed you too", and thinks it's probably for the best that she'll be leaving soon, before she falls completely in love with him.

;_;

I love your Nobunaga!

I really like the scene where MC cooks fish with tea, she's using her cooking skills in a way that make a difference and also in a way that fits well with her particular LI. I'm noticing that in every route she uses cooking in a different way but Mitsuhide route!MC's diplomacy through cooking is one of my favorites.

Yeah I think we have to ignore historical ages. I'm not sure how much in-game time passes in the route but it can't have been 20 years.

After the battle Nobunaga is PISSED because Oichi's husband betrayed them, causing massive casualties, and he's determined the kill the guy regardless of the consequences for Oichi.

Nobunaga is the worst, seriously.

You will definitely see Oichi again.

That puts a different slant on the scene where he comes across Nobunaga skeezing onto MC.

Among the many things to hate Nobunaga for is how terribly he consistently treats Ranmaru. Beh. At least Ranmaru gets a route in IkeSen so I can date him myself and take him away from his horrible boyfriend.

Weird creepy message from Tokugawa Ieyasu, who I have never met before, saying to live for him?? Ah, it's his birthday event or something. No thanks, dude.

Yeah, you'll get a lot of random messages like that. Also Ieyasu is the worst person in the game. Very different from the philosopher king of Demon's Bond.

I'm so glad you're enjoying Mitsuhide. But yes, understated. On some other routes you get a kiss faster.
