Discolored
Oct. 23rd, 2019 10:05 pmI woke up this morning to discover that the creator of the as-yet unreleased game Discoloured had given me a copy for free via my Steam Curation account :D :D
Clearly he was hoping I'd like it and rec it, since I've recced a bunch of puzzle games. And I did! It's not perfect, but surprisingly good for a random game I got given for free. The rest of you plebs will have to wait until it come out to play it though ;P
I wrote a full Steam review but Steam wouldn't let me post it because the game's not out yet, boo. So I'll post it here for now. I'll also add here that Steam ate the message the developer sent with the walkthrough link once I accepted the game, so I had to email him directly, he was very nice about it so I'm glad I liked his game!
This is a fun, atmospheric, interesting little point and click puzzle game. It's not scary, but has an enjoyably eerie vibe. There's not really a plot or even an implied story, and the art is very simple, but it was still engaging and uses colour and sound very effectively to create a mood and experience.
Some of the puzzles were frustrating, thankfully I had a walkthrough and most of the time went "Oh, that makes sense", but sometimes rolled my eyes because there was no way I'd have guessed it, or I *had* guessed it but hadn't happened to mouse over from the correct angle. Still, I had enough cool moments of figuring things out or discovering things that the game was overall fun. EDIT: The developer listened to my complaints and improved the puzzles I didn't like! :D
It's short, but I think that suits the kind of game it is, it felt like just the right length.
I was given this for free, and don't know how much it will cost when it's available for sale, but I certainly got *my* money's worth ;)
