XOXO Droplets: Jeremy path reactions
Sep. 26th, 2019 10:56 pmMasterlist
So now for a guy who isn't a sociopath AND talks about his feelings?!
Sure, those feelings are all "this is terrible", but it's something!
This time I'm seeing the side paths for Missy, a conventionally minded but cheerfully mercenary cheerleader, and Romeo, a melodramatic bookseller. I found them both moderately cute but not very interesting.
Overall this path was cute, but took a while to really grab me, and I continue to ship Pran and Jeremy more with each other than with MC.
Jeremy reads as asexual with Depression to me, but it's written ambiguously enough that you can definitely read it differently.
HE USES EMOTICONS IN THE CUTEST WAY. Like he's always staring sadly and sighing and in his phone messages he does a variety of little cute sad stare emoticons oh gosh.
(Pran is still hotter. Sorry, Jeremy, but you look like a muppet. A cute muppet, though!)
Still getting random scenes I haven't seen before! Apparently Nate and Everett have discussed it, and if it came down to it, Nate would rather die for Everett than have survivors guilt. He says he'd also die for MC even though they met like...a week ago.
I CAN WEAR MY TIARA FROM WINNING PROM QUEEN :D :D :D
Aww and it triggers a cute scene with dumbass Arcade employee/side boyfriend Kam. I wonder what item is for the other side boyfriend Adrian.
Ohhh, Jeremy hates germs, maybe THAT'S why he thinks kissing is gross.
I guess "If you want to there's not much I can do about it" is better as a response to being asked out than "No"?
MC: You're a nerd, how do we have a fun date in a library?
Jeremy: We could flip through books by the same author and see how many repeated themes we can find.
MC: D:
Me: THAT SOUNDS GREAT BEST BOYFRIEND EVER
Shiloh: So since you're apparently MC's type, you get to answer the questions now. Do you prefer e-
Jeremy: No preference.
Shiloh: Do you prefer-
Jeremy: No preference.
After much badgering by MC he says he doesn't like orange hair or eyes, or sickly sweet personalities. I WONDER WHAT HIS MOTHER LOOKS LIKE lol.
MC: So you'd prefer a jerk?
Jeremy: Sort of. I guess. Whatever.
MC: Cool.
Everett: That leaves all of us except Shiloh and Bae. Though they're still jerks.
Bae: Fine by me.
Shiloh: I'm not a jerk!
Jeremy: That's it, I have no other preferences.
Pran: Jeremy already knows who the pick would be he just doesn't want to talk about it.
Bae: He mustn't like who it is :D
Jeremy: At least I wouldn't say the supervisor is the most attractive one here like Pran would.
Pran: I don't care, it's true.
Lynn: TIME FOR A NEW ACTIVITY
I love how this game does things I would never have predicted but that make perfect sense in retrospect. I had wondered what Pran thought of Lynn, since he's a genuinely nice person who makes a real effort to bring Pran out of his shell (with limited but non-negligible success).
Goddamit. During the Pran path I was separately thinking about how Pran might respond to a fluffier partner than MC, and how Lynn might respond to being forced out of his emotionally distant Good Person comfort zone and....URGH. I DON'T WANT TO SHIP PRAN/LYNN. TEACHER/STUDENT SQUICKS THE HELL OUT OF ME. THEIR DYNAMIC WOULD BE REALLY WEIRD.
My brain: Set it like 5 years after canon, then!
Me: Hmm, I guess that's...less squicky? Ish? And I kinda have an idea for a plot...
my brain: WRITE IT WRITE IT
Me: Eh, idk if I'll write an actual fic but I might as well note down the summary to get it out of my head...
My brain, the moment I open a text document: EWW TEACHER/STUDENT IS GROSS YOU CAN'T WRITE THAT!!!!
Me: *Jeremy-esque sigh* *closes text document*
(but in my fic idea Jeremy had grown a dumb little green goatee and that is definitely my future!Jeremy headcanon now)
While with Shiloh and Pran it was MC as the somewhat jerky but weirdly patient girlfriend to incomprehensible jerks who refused to engage in even the basics of human communication, with Jeremy they're both medium level jerks who are pretty honest about how they feel. Jeremy's very negative, but also...seems sincere about genuinely not wanting to date MC, and some negativity is to be expected from someone who's been dragged on a date he's not into. He will generally answer the questions she asks in an honest if gloomy and insulting way, and there's almost as much of Jeremy snarking at what a selfish weirdo MC is (which she is!) as the reverse.
(EDIT: His wordiness had me fooled. He lies about enjoying things as much as Pran)
He also seems genuinely grossed out any time she talks about how attractive she finds him, so I'm wondering where that's going.
He just asked, with every sign of sincerity, how he can get MC to stop liking him.
MC: No can do. My attraction to you is one of the many mysteries of this great wide world.
Jeremy, blushing and looking at his feet: Wow. Deep.
Haa at karaoke he passive aggressively acts VERY dumb when she tries to teach him to dance, eliciting one of his rare sly smiles.
The end of Jeremy's work conversations is pretty bittersweet. He has a messy relationship with his well meaning but overbearingly cheerful mother, who has no idea how to deal with a perpetually contrary and negative son. And unlike most other narratives where teens have messy relationships with well meaning but inadvertently hurtful parents, I don't think we're going to get a "And then Jeremy learned his parents were ok and they communicated honestly and everything was good" resolution.
MC: Good news we're going to the archery range!
Jeremy: No.
MC: Can you tell me somewhere you'd like more?
Jeremy: Sigh.
MC: Time to learn how to shoot!
Pran: Jeremy doesn't need to learn, he's an expert.
MC: Ooh! One of you has to tell me the story!!
Pran and Jeremy: .........
Jeremy: My parents enrolled me in lots of classes as a kid. I could tolerate archery, but didn't want them to know they did something right, so didn't say anything. After that I came here by myself.
MC: Is there more to that story? Pran?
Pran: None of your business.
MC: I don't like your choice of friends, Jeremy.
Pran and Jeremy: :D
These two are so cute together.
Awww and he got into archery because he read about it in books, MC and I agree he is a cute little nerd.
(Also he has a slight lisp. Like me! Tiny pale touch averse depressed nerds with a slight lisp need to be written as sexy LIs more often)
So the backstory to Pran and Jeremy becoming friends is that when they were both 13, Pran pretended to be older than he was and got a job as Jeremy's babysitter. And then it was convenient to both of them to keep up the lie so they did for two years and now Pran just hangs out at Jeremy's house. That's super cute.
I wonder how Pran feels about Jeremy's parents. They must have been a relief compared to his own family in some ways, but Pran likes Space and they are not always good at it.
Ok so Jeremy got VERY upset at Bae when they shared a room, and we see on Shiloh's route that Bae feels legitimately bad about it, and wants to apologise (which is very un-Bae) On Jeremy's route, Jeremy is freaked out and determined to avoid being alone with Bae but also says Bae said something that "could have been taken as a compliment by someone weird like you". Also he gets ESPECIALLY uncomfortable when MC says his pajamas are cute. And the most plausible explanation I can come up with is that Bae hit on him?? Bae canonically has a thing for small and cute (he says MC would be hotter if she was shorter with longer hair and likes that she has small boobs) and Jeremy is tiny and adorable and moe, especially in his stars and clouds PJs with a blanket draped over his shoulders (because hotel blankets are gross, he has statistics to prove it)
I wonder if I'll find out on the Bae path! Though hmm it would be odd for Bae to hit on Jeremy when he's possibly dating MC. But maybe it was just a somewhat sexually charged compliment, or something Jeremy interpreted that way.
MC just taught overly flowery bookstore clerk Romeo the meaning of boundaries as a way not to alienate people which. uh. Pot, kettle, MC.
Jeremy's reaction to MC dating Pran: Congratulations, I guess.
Pran's reaction to MC dating Jeremy: I hope his 'entertainment value' for you wears off soon >:(
Nate: Do you even want to date her or did you just not bother to say no?
Jeremy: Sure, I guess.
Me: AWWW HE DOES LIKE HER
(I was beginning to wonder, honestly)
Them getting together was much like her getting together with Pran except Jeremy was very firm on not kissing her and had to be talked into holding hands.
Pran: Hey.
MC: Whoa you're seeking me out? Are you going to tell me to back off from your bestie?
Pran: No, Jeremy wants you to know that he's busy and his phone is broken.
MC: Awww. Let's hang out then! Jeremy's best girl and his best guy!
Pran: No.
MC: Come on, I know you like me.
Pran: I don't.
MC: If you seriously hated me, Jeremy would never have dated me.
Pran: ...
MC: Ha see now you either admit you like me or that you and Jeremy aren't that close. HEY GET BACK HERE YOU CAN'T RUN FROM THE TRUTH. ME AND JEREMY WILL ALWAYS CARE ABOUT YOU.
Pran: Something's wrong with you. I'm not your child!
MC, blushing: Haha too bad. That's a fun idea.
Ok I am officially bored of stats grinding. *uses cheat misery-loves-company to get some sweet sweet Jeremy points*
Oh wow. So the reason Pran did babysitting was to buy a paint set because his dad thought giving him anything encouraged the Evils of Capitalism, while his mum told him Mr and Mrs King needed a babysitter and to lie about his age. "Pranala the only thing more important than knowing the rules is knowing when to break them. If I listened to everything your daddy said I'd be standing here in a burlap sack, and if I listened to everything my daddy said you wouldn't even exist."
(Pranala is apparently the Javanese/Indonesian for "links", as in on the internet. I'm guessing his parents were more thinking of the form of Yoga though)
Awww, until he befriended Jeremy he used to sneak out of their shared community classes to eat alone to avoid being confronted with how much the other kids didn't want him to sit with them.
"Jeremy didn't want anything from me and didn't try to talk to me. I decided if I was going to have one person in my life, Jeremy seemed good enough. I knew for sure when he got the teacher to give us permission to eat outside together. Happy? I've stayed with him because I wasn't given a reason to leave."
MC: Well I'm glad you two found each other and I'm even more glad I found you guys.
Pran: I don't care.
Jeremy: Sigh.
MC: Man I'm so pleased. Thanks, Jerebear. How did you get him to say all that?
Jeremy: I just asked. It wasn't hard.
MC: Haha, see? I knew he'd listen to you. He really does value your friendship.
Jeremy, with a tiny smile: Yeah.
MC: And I value you too. That's also important.
Jeremy, blushing: Um, okay.
OK FINE. PRAN/JEREMY/MC IT IS.
Though I'm still put off by how much MC is like Jeremy's mother.
At the pool, he refuses to take his shirt off and says she should look at other guys instead haha. He's also deeply convinced she can't really be attracted to him.
MC: You know what, you came to the pool even though you didn't want to and you wore a swimsuit even though you didn't want to. So thankyou, Jerebear.
Jeremy: Ew. You being understanding is making me uncomfortable.
MC: Seeing you stomp off like a drowned eggplant put me in really good mood.
Jeremy: That's better.
I was wondering how the Tunnel of Love would go but MC had no expectations of makeouts or even touching and just bugged Jeremy to stare romantically into her eyes (which he was terrible at but he gave it a shot).
Jeremy rejects the idea that he might have depression or benefit from therapy or meds with the logic that he just sees the world for the awfulness it is, and lacks the resilience to deal with it. MC is not entirely convinced but her proffered solution is a hug which does not go down well.
Then they have a really interesting but hard to summarise conversation about how he used to be angry instead of apathetic, but has always found the world awful. He admits he doesn't think his parents are bad people and even likes them sometimes, but they're just stupid and don't understand him, and can't accept what happiness and affection look like from him. They want him to come across as happy by their standards, which will never happen, so they're never satisfied.
So MC isn't like his mother! And I feel more comfortable with her bugging him to do stuff: unlike his parents, she recognises and appreciates when he shows subtle signs of having a relatively good time, and doesn't get Sad that he's not Happy.
(which makes me think gloomily about certain dynamics in my family. ANYWAY)
MC: So why do you go to a boarding school walking distance from your house?
Jeremy: Pran's grandparents are paying for it.
MC: So they're paying for you to be his friend? I knew there was something fishy about that :D
Jeremy: >:(
Awww. So Pran's rich maternal grandparents hated him getting homeschooled and neglected, and nearly sued for custody, when he hit 16 they demanded he go to a private school. Pran ran away to Jeremy's house to spite them, laughing to Jeremy about how worked up everyone was, and Jeremy suggested a deal where they both got to go, letting Jeremy escape his parents. Except they insisted it be a nearby school so he could still visit.
MC: You're a precious, wonderful buddy.
Jeremy: And isn't it a shame knowing I'm capable of being a good friend to him, but I'm such a lousy boyfriend to you? :D
MC: Sorry to disappoint you but you're the perfect boyfriend just the way you are.
Jeremy, blushing: Gross.
MC: Ok I would prefer if you weren't such a germphobe and let me touch you more. Come here and give me a hug!
Jeremy: Nope.
MC: Wait, we were going to talk about you, but we talked more about Pran.
Jeremy: Oh no :) Am I still the perfect boyfriend?
MC: Yes <3
I rushed through all my dates and it's only boxing day there's like 6 months of game to go oops. (The game 100% ignores dates like Christmas/Valentines etc)
oh my gosh MC suggests they should shower together and Jeremy goes BRIGHT RED as she's like "With bathers on! We can hold hands!"
Jeremy: I AM CHANGING MY NAME AND MOVING TO ANOTHER STATE. YOU HAVE RUINED THE IDEA OF SHOWERS.
Yeah...I'm leaning towards asexual over simple germphobe (though he's that too). Though he had this little shy smile at the end when she implied he'd dream of her in a bikini while he napped, he's definitely not quite as grossed out by sexual stuff as he pretends to be. Plus he's an 18 year old in his first relationship, he's allowed to be a little shy.
MC: Big news Jeremy you're taking me to prom.
Jeremy: I don't wanna.
MC: Tough, you're somebody's boyfriend now.
Jeremy: Could you be somebody else's girlfriend for the night? I could probably convince Pran to take you.
me: *waggles eyebrows*
When Jeremy's parents found out he had a girlfriend they GOT HIM A CAKE. With CONGRATULATIONS piped onto it. Ahaha oh no.
A random conversation where Shiloh is deeply offended that Everett doesn't think MC is the hottest member of their group.
Everett: I don't like it, but the the answer's obviously Pran.
Shiloh: I suppose he is striking >:/
MC: He is pretty good looking...BUT BEAUTY'S IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER AND I AM THE HOTTEST.
Awww so Jeremy's off to business school but sure his parents will drag him back to work at the store so MC's like MARRY ME THEN THEY CAN'T DRAG YOU AWAY :D which he is very taken aback by, but he seems quietly pleased with the idea of being stuck with MC for the foreseeable future.
(MC does in fact think Jeremy could work things out with his parents through better communication, and offers to help, but he says no and she respects that)
And then they hold hands THE END.
That was cute! But PRAN/JEREMY OTP.
Side note: Jeremy has like 5 subtle variations on his hair (two fringe styles, side locks braided or left hanging, hat or no hat) which (aside from the hat) seem to vary at random independent of his outfit. I noticed Bae and Pran's hair varying too but I don't think as much. I'm going to keep an eye on Nate now, as the other guy with long hair.
This is the cutest combo imo:

(ALSO NOTE TIARA. I didn't win prom queen this playthrough, and probably won't for my next one either, but MC is going to wear her tiara from now on anyway. SHE EARNED IT IN THE MULTIVERSE)
Also I've realised that Jeremy has...almost exactly the hairstyle I am thinking of getting? And now I'm like...maybe I should have little braids. I suspect they wouldn't hang as nicely though, my hair is Troublesome.
WAIT. IF I CLICK ON THE GUYS IN THE MAIN MENU THEIR CGS AND OUTFITS COME UP. It claims everyone has 1-2 hairstyles but I know I saw more variety with Jeremy.
Next up I think Bae? He actually says cheerful things! Insincerely cheerful things, but that's looking good again at this point.

Date: 2019-09-29 02:49 pm (UTC)Yes, the random/player-controlled order of scenes is interesting! It was also funny having done Shiloh first since a few of what I thought were Shiloh path specific scenes have showed up on other paths because he's just Like That.
