Chitose hasn't won me over yet, but I can see how he hopefully will.

There's been more new content than I thought there'd be, though a lot of it looks like it would be on the Shin and Kazutake paths too.

---
Ok, let's watch the other trailers and decide who to date!

Chitose: Being supportive and affectionate to Yukina. Being dedicated to being a good, human hating demon. Having a close friendship with a human dude who thinks he's super cool, and feeling really conflicted about it. Possibly seeing himself as a monster?

That all sounds very promising.

Senkimaru: A lot about how resentful he is about his clan's mistreatment, not much about him actually showing any interest in the protag. And he...seems to have a "grown-up" form that looks like all the other dudes in terms of height/body type etc?? I'm curious about what's up with that but it rather takes away the androgynous white haired pretty boy appeal: he doesn't stay androgynous, and it turns out ALL the boys get pretty white hair. Also I read a review that said his route is good but to play him last because of spoilers.

Urgh playing these trailers keeps breaking the game. I looked up reviews for Kazutake and Shin and they seem to be exactly what they look like on the tin: fine, but not entirely my jam. Reviewers seem to like Chitose a lot, and the game clearly wants you to play him early.

So, Chitose it is! Assuming I can get it to play *restarts bluestacks*

(Also, these reviewers could stand to warn better for when they're going to start spoiling the entire plot...)

Ugh I decided to calculate the conversion rate this time, this costs me $7.20 Australian. Let's wait until I REALLY feel like playing.

*lasts a whole two days*

Hey wtf that cost seven dollars NINETY NINE?? That's more than the current exchange rate! WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY SEVENTY CENTS GOOGLE??

*skips through a large chunk of game I've already seen, feeling hard done by*

New content! I ignored Kazuya and got a moment where Chitose talks about having to worry about getting by: everyone in the western provinces is in dire straits thanks to the cost of the previous administration's war against Korea.

Ah, Korea is to the West of Japan! (Shut up, I suck at geography) So the Western daimyos all got conscripted to fight over there.

(Also wow Japan is closer to Russia than I realised. Anyway)

Me: Ok, so, time to choose to talk to Chitose! Hopefully this'll help win me over to him.
Chitose: She's so stuffy, it's like she doesn't have a feminine bone in her body. Nobody's going to want her as a wife!
Me: >:(
Chitrose: Oh, right...in the Suzumori clan, I suppose the woman takes a husband. I feel sorry for whatever man that is...

HER VILLAGE IS MATRILINEAL???

And then Elder Koto notices his sleeve is frayed and asks Yukina to fix it??

Yukina: But I don't know how to sew?
Koto: You'll figure it out! And you can prove him wrong about you being unfeminine!

...I think I'll go to bed and finish this scene later.

*plays like 5 other dating sims before feeling like it*

Ok! I got through the scene, which was very awkward, but even though she did a terrible job Chitose appreciated how hard she worked and said he was happy with it. I GUESS YOU'RE NOT ALL BAD, CHITOSE.

Chapter 2

*gains Chitose approval by being suspicious of Senkimaru, feels guilty*

WAIT OOPS I skipped some new content! Dammit, there's no easy way to tell which bits I have and haven't seen. Ok, replaying from the start...

Ok, in chapter 2, after Princess Yase is attacked and Senkimaru shows up, there's a split based on whether Yukina goes to check on Kazuya with Shin and Koto, or Kazutake with Chitose and Tsuki. On the Kazuya path I saw the first, but on the Chitose path I'm seeing the second.

Chitose: Why are you staring at me, do I have something on my back?
Yukina: I was entranced...
Chitose, blushing: I know I'm a handsome guy, but when you say that all of a sudden I-
Yukina: I meant by your sword.
Chitose: O-oh. Well! This is the Firefly Sword. It's 45 inches long, and I use so much strength in my strikes that the friction between the blade and the air create flames :D

*has sudden vision of modern AU!Chitose with tacky flame decals all over his custom modded overpowered sports car*

She asks him to duel with her when they get back, unsheathing his sword this time, and he agrees.

Chitose sees Kazutake guarding a human daimyo (lord) and is incensed. Kazutake says it's fine because the guy, Mitsunari, has retired from politics. Chitose angrily rants at Yukina, then apologises, saying he's been told to stop overreacting to things.

Yukina: Are you upset because you trusted him, and feel betrayed?
Chitose: What? Who trusted him? *grabbing her head* I don't need you making stupid guesses!!
Yukina: Please stay calm
Chitose: I'M ALWAYS CALM
Me: :/

Back at the village Kazuya says he was just sending a letter home (which we find out on his path was a lie), and Shin talks about bumping into Yachiyo, the guy who attacked Princess Yase.

Yukina goes for a midnight stroll, and bumps into Kazutake about to leave the village in secret. He says he's going to tell his human charge, Mitsunari, that he's going to focus on demon stuff. He asks Yukina not to tell anyone she saw him. Sorry dude, I am not on your path...

Yukina is about to tell Chitose but Shin suddenly...throws a scarf over his head. Subtle misdirect, Shin. He whispers to Yukina "You don't have to worry about Kazutake. Once he's said what he needs to, I'm sure he'll be back."

Oooh and instead of the Ieyasu scene we got on the Kazuya path, we get one with Kazutake and Mitsunari.

Mitsunari gives permission for Kazuya to stop guarding him for a while, saying it was just to save face for Lord Hideie anyway. Mitsunari is very emotionless, and Kazuya finds him hard to understand. I like the contrast to Kazuya's relationship with Ieyasu.

Chapter 3
*carefully checks my Kazuya path summary for what look like Kazuya specific scenes, so I know when to stop skipping*

This isn't why I wrote that summary, but I'm glad I have it!

Yukina bumps into Chitose reading a letter from "someone from home".

Yukina: One of your brothers?
Chitose: He's like a brother. I get along better with him than anyone from the village.

OOH IT'S THE SECRET STARCROSSED HUMAN BFF!

Chitose, eyes sparkling: He's a real man. He can drink a whole ton. He's pretty much perfect. Well, not as perfect as me, of course.

I'm going to ship this aren't I?

Chitose is reminded of how she feels about the princess, and is sad. Chitose gently takes her hands. "Don't worry, she'll be fine. Your feelings for her are stronger than anything else"

Me: Aw.
Tsuki and Koto: OMG A PASSIONATE RENDEZVOUS
Chitose and Yukina, hurriedly letting go of each other's hands: D:
Chitose: We've only known each other four months! Of course we're not that close!

Gosh, yes, holding hands after four months, what kind of hussie do they take you for??

Kazuya happens upon the letter.
Chitose: Good morning! Did you- WAIT. GIVE ME THAT.
Kazuya: You'll be in trouble if the other chieftains find out. But I won't tell anyone, don't worry.

SEE, CHITOSE, THIS IS HOW TO NOT BE A TOTAL HYPOCRITE ABOUT HAVING HUMAN TIES.

HER VILLAGE IS MATRILINEAL???

Interesting, right? And that would explain why Kazama can't just marry Sen or one of her relatives, he'd immediately become a Yase and it would do nothing for his clan.

Chitose appreciated how hard she worked and said he was happy with it

I thought Chitose going around with a badly-sticked sleeve for apparently the rest of the game to be utterly charming.

She asks him to duel with her when they get back, unsheathing his sword this time, and he agrees.

I was disappointed that we didn't see that duel but I bet it was amazing. And I bet they duel for fun, like all the time, and they're still doing it in Hakuoki times, and Chizuru is going to run into them dueling and be like, hunh, I guess everything I thought about demon gender roles isn't exactly right.

"Don't worry, she'll be fine. Your feelings for her are stronger than anything else"

One thing I very much like about the Chitose path is that a lot of their feelings for each other come from recognizing and validating each other's intense feelings for other people.
