Masterlist of links and Character Guide
I had to take a break when I got a cold because I was having trouble keeping track of everything. But now I am feeling better, and have added a character guide!
The ratio of Japanese History: Romance is certainly...making me glad I have a character guide and access to Wikipedia...

Yukina has spent four months by the princess's side with no change.
Kazutake gets halfway through teaching Yukina how to do meditative breathing when he realises he's TOUCHING A WOMAN'S STOMACH and apologises.
Yukina: It's ok, I don't think of myself as a woman ^_^
*non binary feels intensify*
(She doesn't seem to see herself as a man, either, just someone who finds gender irrelevant)
Chitose: What was that HUMAN ASSOCIATER talking to you about?
Yukina: Breathing?
Chitose: HMMM. Ok. I GUESS :/
Human trouble is brewing in Aizu, in Kazuya's home province of Mutsu.
Shin wants the demons to become visibly involved with human affairs to draw out the bad guy. Yukina is the only one who wants to stand firm to the princess's orders not to associate with humans.
Yukina: Do you think the others are right, and Ieyasu is trying to rile up war with Aizu?
Kazuya: The Ieyasu I know would never do that.
Yukina: How can you trust a human? They kill their own family as if it was nothing, break promises at a drop of a hat...
Kazuya: How many humans have you met? I take it you've met at least several hundred to make this kind of assumption.`
He's got you there, Yukina.
He asks if she's told anyone about his relationship with Ieyasu and I go for the honest "I've thought about it" answer, which seems to gain his respect.
Yukina: If you ever threaten Yase or the Alliance I won't go easy on you.
Kazuya: I'll bear that in mind, lol
HMMPH
Ieyasu: Oh no the Aiuzu are rebelling ;_;
Masanobu: Oh no, what a shock, now we have to kill them all >:D
He doesn't quite steeple his fingers and chuckle "all according to plan", but it's close.
End of Chapter 3!
I'm enjoying this as a story but there's very little Kazuya so far on this Kazuya path :/
deborah_judge confirmed my suspicion that the Chitose path has a lot of similar content. It feels like the company started with a more traditional PC/console style dating sim where the first half of the story is a shared common route, then squeezed it uncomfortably into the Shall We Date short prologue + separate routes pricing structure.
Senkimaru gets permission to help Kazuya, Elder Tsuki, and Yukina gather info at Fushimi castle.
Ooooh this cold is making me woozy, names are getting hard, sorry for any upcoming typos...
Kazuya practices the difficult two-sword style of fighting. It's expected for the chief of his clan, but even Tsuki is impressed by his ability.
Yukina: I tried learning two-sword style but couldn't get the hang of it, could you teach me one day?
Kazuya: Yeah, if we get the chance.
Senkimaru: You're not a normal girl...It'll be a long time until she's married off at this rate.
Kazuya: If she's happy I don't think there's a problem with it.
Not regretting my decision to pick Kazuya over Senkimaru :/
Kazuya is determined to see Ieyasu alone, but Yukina sneaks ahead and waits in Ieyasu's room.
Ieyasu: Who's there? Come out!
Yukina: So you can kill me? I KNOW HOW BARBARIC YOU HUMANS ARE.
Yukina, didn't we learn a very special lesson about not being speciesist?
Yukina: Why are you in contact with Kazuya? Do you hope he will help you take control of the country? You humans are free to kill each other as you see fit, but leave us out of it!
Ieyasu: So that's what you think of us...perhaps you're right.
Suddenly, there's sounds of a fight with the guards, and Ieyasu sends Yukina off to see if it's Kazuya, and rescue him if so.
She finds Kazuya captured by Masanobu.
Masanobu: We can't have the likes of you hanging around his Lordship when we are about to see whether he'll become Shogun and leave his name in the pages of history.
Kazuya: Is that really what he wants?
Masanobu: It's what every man born into a military family wants! GUARDS! CAPTURE HIM, ALIVE OR DEAD!!
So for all I know the real Ieyasu Tokugawa was a humble man who was FORCED to take over the country as military dictator by his MEAN ADVISOR. But, uh. Somehow I feel like he had a little more agency than that.
Ha, looking him up: (a) Yeah, he was ambitious as hell (b) He was also balding and very fat, rather than the rugged silver fox they've drawn him as.
He was also made a hostage multiple times as a child, and had complicated changing relationships with the other big names: a lot of being enemies then allies, having their kids get married then executing them for treason etc.
The guards attack and Kazuya is having trouble, so Yukina steps in. They are WAY too strong to be human oooooh. But when injured, they do not heal fast like a demon (or Hakuoki vampire). So what are they?
And then the guards start COLLAPSING AND VOMITING BLOOD??
Masanobu: It seems human bodies cannot stand it after all.
Ah, Otomate, you and your mad scientist villains.
Kazuya: Thanks for saving my life :) ...why are you staring at me?
Yukina: I've never seen you smile like that before!
Kazuya, looking away and muttering under his breath: I'm not good at smiling.
PRECIOUS
Senkimaru and Tsuki saw enough of what happened that Kazuya has to admit his connection to Ieyasu. Senkimaru and Chitose are pissed, but everyone gets distracted when it turns out that similar strange soldiers showed up in Aizu, led by the "Bandit", and dying just as quickly.
Kazutake says the dude he was guarding is ALSO going to join the fray, and finally names his employer, some dude I've never heard of called Hideie Ukita who owns the ancestral lands Kazutake's clan lost to the humans in ages past. Kazutake hopes to regain those lands for his clan.
Meanwhile, Kazuya refuses to cut off or explain his connection with Ieyasu and storms off.
We see Masanobu meeting with two masked figures, who he thinks of as demons. They all compare notes about "the drug" which makes humans briefly powerful then kills them...and put Princess Yase into a coma. Oooh. They discuss whether a small amount might work on a demon. "That fool Hideyoshi (the previous ruler) left an incredible gift for us."

Date: 2019-06-27 02:54 pm (UTC)I am *so* curious where they are going with Tokagawa and Kazuya's respect for him. As far as I remember Tokugawa was something of a Machiavellian backstabber but Kazuya seems to be thinking of him as someone made of integrity. But what is actually going on?
I am struggling with Yukina's decision to protect Kazuya's secret. I mean I'm pressing those buttons because I want the good ending, but it's not feeling realistic for her to keep a secret from people she's trusted her whole life for the sake of someone she's just met. After she explicitly promised the Princess that she'd do whatever necessary to stop alliances with humans.
The proto-furies are definitely interesting!

Date: 2019-07-11 01:40 pm (UTC)The relationship between Kazuya and Ieyasu is interesting, I'm still getting my head around it. But afaict Kazuya's opinion matches the impression I got from wikipedia: he was a very pragmatic and sometimes ruthless man, but he did value personal loyalty.
