[personal profile] caramarie posted a graph of their word count over the years and I got curious, because I was pretty sure I wrote more than normal last year. And BOY DID I.

A pie chart of years vs words. 20097185 201077831 201180548 201298929 201332614 201424955 201571801 201619135 201746234 2018226406

I have no idea if this was a fluke and I'll go back to my much lower 2017ish levels. I guess we'll see!

And I am also stealing the associated AO3 meme, and including Fanfic.net and deviantArt where I can, because I find it interesting to compare!

Which fandoms have you created for?

Fanfic.net says:
Avatar: Last Airbender, Dragon Age, Doctor Who, Mass Effect, Pride and Prejudice, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Homestuck, Durarara!!/デュラララ!!, Portal, Misc. Games, Avengers, Radio Dramas, Skip Beat!, Misc. Books, Akagami no Shirayukihime, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Yuri!!! on Ice, and Hakuōki/薄桜鬼

I have literally hundreds of fandoms on DeviantArt but the ones I made folders for are: Dragon Age, Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, Homestuck, Mass Effect, Steven Universe, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Doctor Who, Marvel and DC, Dating Sims, Stargate, Portal

Unless I miscounted, there are 61 fandoms in my AO3 profile and they're basically a mix of the ones above. Dragon Age is by far the most popular.

What are your most common ratings? (AO3 only)

Including art: General Audiences by a mile. Just including fic: it's about even between General Audiences and Teen. I only have a handful of Mature fics and nothing explicit.

How many works have you created in each relationship category? Is this more accidental, or do you have preferences? (AO3 only)

Gen (89)
F/M (70)
F/F (57)
M/M (23)
Multi (16)
Other (6)

A lot of those F/M works are semi-background canon relationships. I have a pretty strong preference for works about female characters: only 6 of the 23 m/m works don't also contain f/f or m/f. If you restrict it to fic, the proportion of gen goes down significantly.

What are your top five character tags? Does this match how you feel about the characters, or are you puzzled? (AO3 only)

Morrigan, Leliana, Alistair, Zevran Arainai, Fenris.

They're all Dragon Age characters I love, so, no surprises. Especially considering the long comic series "Attempts at Romance in Dragon Age Origins" which includes all of them. If you just include fic, Female Shepard from Mass Effect becomes the most popular character.

Top five relationships: (AO3 only)

Leliana/Morrigan (Dragon Age), EDI/Jeff "Joker" Moreau (Mass Effect), Male Amell/Zevran Arainai (Dragon Age), Alistair/Female Brosca (Dragon Age), Male Amell/Morrigan (Dragon Age)

See above! Though I have actually written a number of full fics about the first three.

(Mary Bennet/Anne de Bourgh was in there originally but only because I have multiple versions of the same story)

The most popular pairing you've created for (by the standard of how many works exist for that pairing on AO3)

I was pondering how to calculate this and then went "Oh wait, Tony/Pepper". I think the biggest going beyond the AO3 would be Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy (which only has 644 works on the AO3??) OH WAIT. I ALSO DREW A HOLMES/WATSON COMIC. NEVER MIND.

Now I'm curious to compare the few hugely popular ships I've been into:
Sherlock Holmes/John Watson 59.9K
Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov 21.4K
Pepper Potts/Tony Stark 10.8K

Meanwhile on Fanfic.net (whose pairing search is much less reliable):
Sherlock Holmes/John Watson 1.9K (only the Sherlock TV show)
Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov 1.2K
Pepper Potts/Tony Stark 202 (Ironman comics) + 235 (Avengers movies)

Meanwhile Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy has 244 fic on fanfic.net: less than on Ao3, but more proportionally compared to the others. Also there's 1.4K fic with them as main characters, much of which seems to be shippy. If you poke around the internet there are thousands more, mostly scattered around old school websites with terrible search options.

The rarest pairing you've created for (by the standard of how many works exist for that pairing on AO3)

I was expecting more of my poly ships but the only ones that count are:
Eri/Lance/Yeonho/Yuri/Tei/Red and Eri/Tei/Yuri (though there's some gen fic that goes in that direction)
Male Amell/Zevran Arainai/Morrigan (may exist as Male Warden/Zevran Arainai/Morrigan, though I couldn't find any)

Nagumo Kaoru/Yamanami "Sannan" Keisuke is the only shipfic for Kaoru at all, since he's the self-insert protagonist's evil brother.

Béata kel Kakiaretë/Rob is the only work for A Shrine For Saint Ann at all, asides from a crossover with Portal I just found and am entirely delighted with.

Nazagi of Asineth/Madeleine Valois is a canon but tiny ship for a tiny fandom.

Endrin Aeducan/Urthemiel is not surprising since at the end of the relevant canon they're both babies who've never met (or a long dead king, thanks to ambiguous tags)

Anders/Leliana is surprising! They're both popular characters in the same popular canon (Dragon Age)! And have a lot in common! Sadly I drew this before all the stuff that would make the pairing REALLY interesting happened, but I'm quite surprised noone's gone there since Inquisition. JUST IMAGINE.

Poking at fanfic.net I found a single Anders/Leliana fic! But like my art it was created just after Awakening, so lacks the, uh, explosive potential of their later characterisations.

Interestingly, none of my femslash ships are unique, though there's a few with only one other work. I'm sure some of my femslash art ships are unique on DeviantArt but there's no way I'm poking their mess of a search system.

Five times Sara Crispino tried to get a boyfriend, and one time she didn't (f/f) 26
Practical Applications of the Turing Test (f/f) 23
The Time Traveler's Guide to Creative Anachronism (f/f) 22

I included the category because I find it interesting! Femslashers sure get chatty when they like your fic :D

Anyway, the trend is that people like moderately plotty, funny, romantic fic that's a couple of chapters long, especially for pairings who have fraught, intense relationships but aren't dating (Strictly Professional only sort of fits the pattern, but was written about a genuinely huge ship at the height of its opularity). Which is not much of a surprise.

My most consistently popular fic, Practical Applications of the Turing Test is a GlaDOS/Chell getting together fic. It's not a huge fandom, but GlaDOS/Chell is a popular ship within the fandom, and challenging to write, what with one of them being a giant, stationary, non-humanoid robot. I actually got inspired to come up with an original and moderately complex science fiction plot which also helped.

*pours out a glass for The Time Traveler's Guide to Creative Anachronism, which was doing really well right until it was jossed so hard that one half of the pairing was revealed to be the mother of the other*

Most Popular on Fanfic.net:

The Life and Death of Setsuka Heel (m/f) 32
Bodies in Motion (f/f and m/f) 18

Faves (kudos):
Practical Applications of the Turing Test (f/f) 221
Strictly Professional (m/m) 183
The Life and Death of Setsuka Heel (m/f) 129
A wishful fancy (f/f) 77
Sex and the Citadel (m/f) 59

Similar sorts of stories to the AO3, but with a distinct preference for EDI/Joker (three of the four new stories, which are WAY less popular at AO3) and less of a taste for femslash. Three of my top 5 stories by reviews involve robot girlfriends, lol.

Side note, even if AO3 readers didn't like them as much, I am still proud of the first three titles in The Universal Laws of Motion series: each is a reference to the relevant Law of Motion, in order, but also relevant to the plot of each story, and a dirty pun.

Most Popular on DeviantArt:

Brave/Frozen: Meeting the princess (f/f)
DAO: Accolade (gen)
Most popular girl in the tower (het-ish gen)
Avatar: Your turn, uncle (gen)
Denerim times:Elf Mage Scandal (m/f)

These are all so incredibly different I have trouble coming up with any conclusions. Most are kind of humourous, but so is a lot of my art. I think the main helpful factor is if something got posted to a community, which is often as much about happening to catch the eye of a mod as anything else, since I don't generally bother to seek them out.

Tumblr has no way to find your most popular posts, but I'm pretty sure it's Ghostbusters: Up to Something since it got a ridiculous number of notes by comparison to everything else.

*goes back to writing ot6 fic for a tiny old dating sim that is probably not going to break any of these records*
