TIME FOR THINGS TO GET WEIRD.
Content note: Abuse, the "what if Toy Story but your dolls love-loved you" premise taken to some even creepier places
First, total tangent: I just found out ZZZ in Korean implies both sleeping and laughter which is amazing.
ANYWAY.
The path choice screen has all five dolls's faces lit up, and I can click on any of the pieces to start their path. But if I mouse over the now complete heart made of the five pieces, a single face replaces them: Nameless
Wizard: You are trapped. Like me, your love and hate has created a world. Congratulations, you are about to meet the person you've been so desperately been wishing to see. But be careful, the world will reflect her as well as you. It is meaningless if you are alone. My duty is done so I will take the memories of the diary. Wait a bit longer, my heroine, we will meet again in my unbreakable dream...
We see the school gates, but everything looks purple.
Eri: Where am I? My head hurts...wait, is that my diary? Why is the inside all ripped up? Is this my school? I don't remember. I wish someone would help me...
Nameless: I'll help you ^_^

The diary in the side bar is completely blank.
Nameless: Have you lost your memories?
FUCK YOU NAMELESS. Also is he...not wearing any pants...
Eri: Will you help me?

Oh god he's going on about how close their relationship is and how they promised they'd be together forever and I'm just AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Like her childhood teddy bear got hot and is trying to dub-con her it's just...very...I can't even. And he may look human (...and pantsless) now but that missing eye makes me imagine a one eyed teddy bear and that image is just there in my head haunting me.
(EDIT: He is in fact wearing pants, which you can sort of see if you squint. They just hang very low)
She apologises for forgetting him and he says it's fine, the scars have SMALL while he waited. "Small" is in extra large font. (Gotten small?)

Nameless: Why are you so curious? The important thing is that I'm by your side. This is a place just for the two of us, like it should have been from the beginning.
Haaaa, I see. The Red path was a contrast in How To Treat Your Amnesiac Girlfriend, while Tei and Yeonho were contrasts in How To Deal With Your Yandere Trauma Response.
Nameless: I decide what happens here, so: we're going on a date. You used to hold me and walk me around, now I'll lead you around.
THIS IS. SO WEIRD.
Eri: Held you and walked around? WAIT OW it hurts when you hold me like that!
Nameless: It's fine, you always heal. Let's go!
And then the background is in colour, and we see Yeonho gasp.
Yeonho: I can sense her, she's close...but where is she?
Eri's classroom in purple.
Nameless: Time for class! First question: How long did I wait for you?
Eri: I...don't know?
Nameless: ANSWER THE QUESTION
Eri: Don't be angry :( Three years?
Nameless: You really are stupid! It was TEN YEARS. WAITING. Ah...I haven't seen you cry in so long :)
She stumbles across Lance's maths notes.
Nameless: Ah, that jerk of a doll. He had a piece called "Self worth". The dolls from that company had a high chance of obtaining a piece of the human mind. It's what attracted you to your dolls, and it twisted them up. I got so mad I tore up your diary ^_^
Eri: D:
He shows her Yeonho's children's book.
Nameless: This boy's piece was "Faith in others". That chick of a boy saw this and wanted to take you to the amusement park. He made me angry too. All those dolls with pieces love you unconditionally. If I could I would hack up their doll bodies with a knife.
Eri: You're a bit weird. I'm going to look around by myself :(
Nameless: Ok. You still won't be able to get away from me ^_^

Lance: Where did you go? The other four disappeared but even if they turned into dolls I don't want to lose you. Please ;_;

Eri is alone, wondering if she'd really date a guy like that. But the maths notes and book looked familiar...
Nameless: Found you! Hide and seek is fun. If I catch you I can hurt you ^_^
Eri: You're scaring me D:
Nameless: The more you back away the more I can go forward. And I suppose it doesn't matter if you fall off the roof, because humans can heal. Right? And then I can watch you get better :D
Eri tries to explain that she'd die but he just laughs.
Then there is a sparkling sound and feathers fly by.
Eri: Oh...I remember....I met someone here who always made me tea. My heart throbs for some reason.

Lance and Yeonho meet and realise they both experienced Eri and the others disappearing.
Yeonho: You're the Lance I know...but you feel different. Like you're from another world.
They agree to stick together, and that they're glad to see each other, aw. How long have they been alone? Yeonho says he felt her invisible spirit, but she's not dead, and they go to search for clues.

Nameless goes to get Eri a drink and JOHN THE CAT SHOWS UP. But when she goes to pat him he disappears :( She decides she must be having a nightmare.
Nameless brings her a red drink and says it's called "Eve's Temptation".
Nameless: You're human, so you need to eat and drink. I didn't drug it like that boy so don't worry ^_^
When he sees that the menu is vaguely reminding her of people he says he'll tear it up so she forgets, just like with her diary. She gets upset at that, and he intimidates her into being quiet and drinking the drink. It makes her head less fuzzy and she asks his name.
Nameless: AHAHAHAHA. What should I do with you? I don't even remember.
Eri: (Note to self, do not ask creepy 'boyfriend' his name)

Yeonho and Lance find Tei. He says he thinks they've been used.
Tei: When I first met her, her heart wasn't full, and felt instinctively that if opened my heart to her, her empty parts would fill. I couldn't fill them by myself...but I also felt like if they ever did fill, she would disappear.
Yeonho: Yes, when she and the rest of you vanished, it felt like...we were no longer of use.
Comparing notes they realise they were all in relationships with Eri in their own universes, and cope with it pretty well, considering.

Eri sees the heels Yuri gave her and Nameless is angry.
Nameless: This is my world! Why do you remember the piece called True Love? Unless...you are attracted to the traces of those pieces. Then...we should go to the place from our memories.

Nameless: The piece called Honesty. Come to think of it, you came here with all your dolls. I was always with you...you wouldn't have known. But we can ride it together now! You'll remember things about me on the merry go round. Because...it won't stop until you remember.

Nameless: Let's go! Since there's no operator, we don't need permission to ride together ^_^
He reminisces about going on the merry go round with her.
Nameless: You held me so tightly. I saw you in the mirror and you looked so pretty, and I had thoughts I shouldn't as a doll...
SHE. WAS. SIX.
Eri: You're not human...why can't I remember you?
Nameless says she's not Peter Pan, and talks about the wizard's plan as on the Red path.
Nameless: I don't care if you're really the same as you were back then, or if you're human or not. As long as I can spin with you like this and look into your eyes, even if I have a million wrong thoughts...but I suppose I am glad you're alive rather than dead. I like when you move.
Eri says she's feeling sick and wants to get off and he gets angry. She can't open the door to the carriage and he laughs and says they should have a tea party.
Eri passes out.
Nameless: How are you broken, you're not torn. How do humans get sick? It's not fun! Wake up! If I wait here you'll wake up, right? I like it better when you move...

Red: Heroine :( I will find you and protect you. I can feel that you're here. Please...know that I'm here.

Child!Eri and her grandpa persuade the operator to let her bring Nameless onto the merry-go-round.

Flashback: the first time she was left with her grandpa.
Grandpa: I guess you don't like me...
Child!Eri: Mommy and Daddy left me here because you're here >:(
Grandpa: That plant is alive, and though it can't talk or move it feels and breathes. If you don't take care of it it will feel lonely, but if you do it will gift you with beautiful flowers.
Eri: So you don't feel lonely because of that plant?
Grandpa: Sweetie, every human has no choice but to feel lonely. But I do feel a little better.
She says she's jealous she doesn't have anything like the plant, and he says he'll give her a present later.

Child!Eri is crying because her mother hasn't rung. And then her grandpa gives her "her first doll" (at six? What toddler doesn't have dolls??)
Child!Eri: He's so fluffy!
Grandpa: You'll get closer to it if you give it a name.
Child!Eri: Ok!
Eri: The doll's name was...

Tei and red are comparing notes on Eri's amnesia. Lance is weirded out by the group photo he has no memory of. Red says he thinks his special power is sensing how Eri feels and thinks, when she's in danger his whole body screams to save her. He and Yeonho agree they can sense her in the carriage on the merry-go-round.
Tei: The first thing we need to do is let her know we're here.
Yeonho: I'll send my voice to her soul.

Nameless: You're awake! Humans really can recover! But...why are you staring at me?
Eri: Are you the teddy bear from when I was little? I dreamed about you, but couldn't quite hear your name...
Nameless: :D :D So being sick helps you remember!

Eri sees a feather go past the window of the carriage, then notices her school-bag under her seat. She finds the group photo inside and her head hurts as she hears Red calling for her.
Nameless: "Pure Identity"...it's the boy who had the last piece!
Flashback:
Eri spills tea on Nameless during a tea party. "You and I will be together forever and ever."
Grandpa tells Nameless he doesn't know how much longer he will live, and thanks him for making Eri happy. "Even if you don't give her affection, she will be happy as long as you wait for her."
The little kid next door tells Eri Nameless is tacky and only fit to be a toy for his puppy, who tears Nameless.
Eri, distraught: Turn it back!
Grandpa: I'll fix it as well as I can.
Child Eri: Mom and dad said they won't be back for a year this time, but that's ok.
Not quite what I was imagining, but ok! And yes, this is where I got my icon :)

Red has a vision of a closet in their house that never gets opened. He inspires everyone to follow him, even though they're all worried to leave Eri behind at the merry-go-round.

Eri remembers Red saying he'd help her, then looks at the group photo again and remembers each doll in turn, thinking of each boy and his pain and how he cared for her. She remembers Red saving her, but from what?
Eri: He said it was fine if I forget, that I can always remember tomorrow...
And then she remembers all the paths, how her life with the dolls ended at the amusement park then returned to the day they arrived.
Nameless: This is impossible! Your diaries burned on Christmas Day! The Wizard was there...
There is the sound of glass shattering.
Nameless: No, it can't end yet! I haven't spent that much time with her!
The house in colour.
They've found the closet.
Yeonho: I feel the dark spirit every doll is afraid of. This place is full of resentment and despair.
Yuri: Maybe the final boss is in here...which is to say, the kidnapper.
Eri and Nameless are in the room of abandoned toys. Nameless explains that he's been here ever since she forgot him.
Nameless: Most dolls abandon their names and accept their fate. They are thrown in the trash and their souls are destroyed. But I couldn't give up. Your grandfather said all I had to do was wait and that would be enough. I believed in your promise and waited. But you never came. So I wanted to meet you, any way I could. Although you didn't remember my name, you remembered my existence. I'm still happy with that-
And then the door opens, and it's Red, and everyone else. They're relieved to see she's safe but say it's time to go.
Nameless: No! Don't take her! *he grabs Eri*
Eri: Please, stop. I'm sorry for forgetting you. I forgot you and all the other precious parts of my myself as I grew up. I tried to pretend to be normal, and denied the most important parts of me to my friends. Since when did I care more about other people seeing me as mature? But I needed you all, my toys and grandpa were the only ones who listened to me. I pretended to my parents that I was mature, that I could take care of myself when I wanted to call them every night. I'm sorry for forgetting the promises I made you.
Nameless: Really? You're apologising?
And then Red throws the liquid from Mr Yujin...which is good for humans but burns fabric. Nameless cries out in pain and Eri escapes with the dolls while Nameless calls for her to wait, he still had more to say...
Flashback:
Child Eri is cheerfully telling Nameless about her day at kindergarten, and how she wants to go on the merry-go-round with him. But then her dad arrives with a replacement for Nameless. Eri tells Nameless to watch the house while she goes to dinner with her parents.
Closing credits! A female singer, and a song called "What's your name" from Eri's point of view, ending with an image of a beat-up teddy!Nameless looking at Eri's diary.
Eri: It's Sunday. Lance is at the library, Yeonho is with his friends, and Tei's working. I don't know where Yuri is and Red probably went to read comic books. Maybe I'll clean...
Eri: Oh, the closet where I put things I don't use. Here's a drawing from when I was little, and a photo of grandma and grandpa. And this...is my first teddy bear. What was the name...
We see the group photo. Feathers fly across it and human!Nameless fades into view.
Eri: Ah yes, the name was definitely...Sang.

That was...something? This all feels a bit like Labyrinth, exploring that messy intense part of adolescence where childhood and adulthood blur and you're simultaneously wanting to play with dolls and thinking about sex and it's all confusing and hard to navigate. Glad there were no teenage girl/childhood teddy bear abusive dub-con makeouts though, that'd have been a bit...much. THOUGH I GUESS THERE'S ONE ENDING LEFT.
Also, am very glad I didn't choose a silly or hard to spell name.
Nameless's voice actor sounds entirely normal and not like a WEIRD WHISPERY CREEPY THING.
There's no new diary entries, but Nameless has unlocked in the CG and chapter view. There's one cg and one chapter to go.
I called this "secret" because that's what the saves are labelled, and the seen Nameless chapter is "Secret 1".

Eri and Nameless are in the room of abandoned toys. Nameless explains that he's been here ever since she forgot him.

I tried to pretend to be normal, and denied the most important parts of me to my friends. Since when did I care more about other people seeing me as mature? But I needed you all, my toys and grandpa were the only ones who listened to me. I pretended to my parents that I was mature, that I could take care of myself when I wanted to call them every night. I'm sorry for forgetting the promises I made you.
Nameless: Really? You're apologising?
And then Red throws the liquid from Mr Yujin...which is good for humans but burns fabric. Nameless cries out in pain and Eri escapes with the dolls while Nameless calls for her to wait, he still had more to say...
Flashback:
Child Eri is cheerfully telling Nameless about her day at kindergarten, and how she wants to go on the merry-go-round with him. But then her dad arrives with a replacement for Nameless. Eri tells Nameless to watch the house while she goes to dinner with her parents.
Closing credits! A female singer, and a song called "What's your name" from Eri's point of view, ending with an image of a beat-up teddy!Nameless looking at Eri's diary.
Eri: It's Sunday. Lance is at the library, Yeonho is with his friends, and Tei's working. I don't know where Yuri is and Red probably went to read comic books. Maybe I'll clean...
Eri: Oh, the closet where I put things I don't use. Here's a drawing from when I was little, and a photo of grandma and grandpa. And this...is my first teddy bear. What was the name...
We see the group photo. Feathers fly across it and human!Nameless fades into view.
Eri: Ah yes, the name was definitely...Sang.

This all feels a bit like Labyrinth, exploring that messy intense part of adolescence where childhood and adulthood blur and you're simultaneously wanting to play with dolls and thinking about sex and it's all confusing and hard to navigate. Glad there were no teenage girl/childhood teddy bear abusive dub-con makeouts though, that'd have been a bit...much. THOUGH I GUESS THERE'S ONE ENDING LEFT.
Also, am very glad I didn't choose a silly or hard to spell name.
Nameless's voice actor sounds entirely normal and not like a WEIRD WHISPERY CREEPY THING.
There's no new diary entries, but Nameless has unlocked in the CG and chapter view. There's one cg and one chapter to go.
I called this "secret" because that's what the saves are labelled, and the seen Nameless chapter is "Secret 1".

Date: 2018-12-12 08:36 am (UTC)And it's structurally interesting how that's at the beginning, but then you live all these 'lives' of Eri's, and that first question doesn't seem important or relevant... but it is important, it's the heart of the game: the one thing you must recall.
So what does it mean to recall it? What changes, if he's not Nameless anymore? I guess that's what the secret erase-all-the-saves ending will address...?
Nameless thought his bond with Eri was all-important and transcended worlds and time, but that her bonds with her other ensouled dolls were transient and disposable, and he turned out to be wrong about that. They remembered and reached for her too, and she remembered them and reached back.
I'm confused about the merging of universes, though. All the versions left at the end are the ones who dated Eri? Do they all remember different events, or did some merged timeline form that they all remember? ...I doubt the game will answer any of that in a satisfactory way, but I wonder if there's fanfic somewhere that tries.

They were surprised to find out Eri was dating the other dolls in the other timelines. How they ended up wandering into the same world, and what the reality of THAT world is, I don't know.
And yes I AM VERY CURIOUS TO KNOW what happens now she's remembered "the one thing she must recall". But also don't want to lose all my saves ;_;

Haaaa, I see. The Red path was a contrast in How To Treat Your Amnesiac Girlfriend, while Tei and Yeonho were contrasts in How To Deal With Your Yandere Trauma Response.
