For some reason I felt like the best way to cheer myself up about tragic 19th century English vampires was with some tragic 19th century Japanese vampires.
And weirdly enough it worked, even though these were pretty sad.
** Spoilers, violence**
Kyoto Winds:
Gosh these two are so cute.
Bad End:
They both get fatally shot :( Shimada kills the soldiers who shot them, too late, and asks if they have any last words. They say they want to tell Hijikata and the others that they're sorry. As everything grows dark, Chizuru tries to reach for Yamazaki's hand.
THE END
Unrequited Love:
Yamazaki takes a bullet in the leg for Chizuru. She drags him away with his arm on her shoulder, as he repeatedly tells her to leave him behind. They are chased to the edge of a small cliff.
Chizuru: It's a long shot but our best bet is to jump.
Yamazaki: You're too optimistic for a battlefield. We should have let you live a peaceful life.
*He puts his hands gently on her face*
Yamazaki: Good bye, Yukimura. Please...survive.
And then he pushes her off the cliff.
Once again Chizuru is left waiting in Osaka. She lives simply as a girl, waiting for a man who will never return.
THE END
Edo Blossoms:
Game Overs:
Chapter 1:
"Yamazaki was eying the arteries in my neck longingly"
*suddenly remembers my prediction that he would inadvertently murder Chizuru at some point*
She feels genuinely afraid of him, which I think is a first in this sort of context. But he apologises for being scary and says he refuses to ever hurt her. She feels terrible for doubting him, and hugs him from behind, apologising.
Chizuru organises to follow the Shinsengumi into battle specifically to be with Yamazaki, only to find out at the last minute that he's staying behind with the other vampires.
OH NO.
While they're gone stories emerge from Edo of people being found dead, drained of blood with bites on their necks.
And witnesses say they saw a ninja fleeing the scene D: D:
Yamazakiiiii noooooo D:
Chizuru never sees him again.
THE END
Chapter 2:
The chapter image helpfully reminds me that this is the chapter where he nearly kills her on the good path.
Yamazaki is murdering enemies wildly instead of saving an injured ally. And I choose to encourage him to keep on stabbing D:
He is overcome with bloodlust and holds a sword to Chizuru's throat, saying he will drink the sweet taste of her blood. And I choose to make him endure it WE'LL SEE IF HE IS COOL WITH THAT.
But he puts down his sword and turns away, and she hugs him through the pain.
Later, Yamazaki is fighting Kazama and Amagiri. He is horribly injured. Chizuru is trying to look after him but he shoves her away, saying that if his life is forfeit then he'll take the other two down with him.
Kazama sighs and kills him with a single strike. Chizuru collapses to the ground in shock.
Kazama: You have two options. Come with me as my hostage, and be treated with respect as one of my own. Or avenge this pitiful excuse for a man. I don't care either way, but if you take the second option I won't hesitate to strip the flesh from your bones.
Always such a romantic.
But she takes neither option, praying over his body and waiting for the frost to take her.
THE END
Chizuru don't deliberately die of exposure, how does that help anyone.
Chapter 3:
To deal with the pain of bloodlust Yamazaki starts punching a wall.
Later, Yamazaki has been paralysed by Stabdad's scalpels, and is about to be murdered by a huge army of vampires. They are saved by Okita, who tells them to retreat.
Yamazaki: Never!
Okita: Even if it means putting her at risk?
Chizuru: I accept that risk, come what may.
Okita: I never took the two of you for morons
Yamazaki: I think you will find it is YOU who is the baka
They grin at each other.
Okita: Well then, time for the curtain call.
Chizuru draws her sword, knowing she will die. But there is a time for crying, and a time for being brave.
THE END
;_;
Bad Ending:
Chizuru: Yamazaki, you're acting erratic, are you about to have a bout of bloodlust?
Yamazaki: NOPE. BYE. *runs away*
Chizuru: Huh, guess I was wrong. I wonder why he ran away.
CHIZURU.
Awww. So the "give him blood" option I skipped is also their first kiss, and when he starts calling her 'Chizuru'. Since I missed it there was a little extra dialogue where he blushes and asks to use her given name.
And now I encourage him to use the vampire powers that are killing him and driving him towards becoming a baby eating serial killer D:
Yamazaki: Yes, I must accept the darkness within o_o
Chizuru tries to distract the vampires attacking Yamazaki with her own blood. She is faced with VERY CREEPY panting vampires after her blood.
AND THEN THEY START TO EAT HER ALIVE.
She closes her eyes and even as she feels their mouths upon her feels sure there's still a chance Yamazaki will save her.
He does not.
THE END
D:
Unrequited Love Ending:
Oh god so Chizuru is facing the same hungry vampires. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE HER GET EATEN AGAIN.
Aw but neither does Yamazaki so he runs to save her!
He uses a poisoned scalpel from his own body to attack Kodo's throat, killing him instantly. KIND OF LIKE IN MY FIC (but also kind of not)
Yamazaki uses his vampire powers to kill all the remaining vampires. He and Chizuru stumble out of the castle. He is exhausted and covered in blood.
Yamazaki: Is it ok for me to rest?
Chizuru: Of course. The battle is over.
Yamazaki: I hope my actions honoured the Shinsengumi.
Chizuru: Of course they did. You helped them a lot!
Yamazaki: Oh good. Can you report all this to Hijikata? I just need to rest a little longer.
Chizuru: Ok but I'll be right back.
But then she has a dark premonition, and turns back. He smiles at her gently and says he hoped she wouldn't see, but she was always a trouble maker.
And then she watches as the light fades from his eyes. The CG implies he turns into dust and floats away while the text implies he leaves a corpse, because they really couldn't decide how vampire death works in this game.
Anyway, it's sad.
THE END
Oh hey, he never killed her. Is it really only going to be a thing Okita does? Though afaict Yamazaki is the only one so far to become a serial killer on his own route. I am so bad at predicting plots.
