Hakuoki: Sanan's bad endings

So I was, uh, indisposed this weekend, and decided Sanan's bad endings would hopefully make an enjoyably bizarre distraction. And they did, in a sad sort of way.
Also I have a ridiculous yet persistent yen to write Heisuke/Merrill crossover fic I wish to distract myself from (I don't even have a plot!), especially since playing the Heisuke bad endings will DESTROY ME.
** Spoilers **
So, the thing with Sanan is that on other paths he's somewhere between morally grey and a moustache twirling villain, but on his own path all the hinky stuff he does turns out to be TOTALLY JUSTIFIED and working against the REAL villains.
Given the precedent of the Kazama path, I'm assuming he will continue to be basically decent in his bad endings, and Chizuru will get murdered by Stabdad or whatever. But this game feels no need to be slavishly consistent with itself so anything's possible, especially given that he's a vampire.
Bad Ending:
Ha! That's right, Heisuke says Sanan has been pushing for the vampire corps to be too murdery, and Sanan comes back from battle absolutely COVERED in blood (for what later turn out to be TOTALLY INNOCENT REASONS) For the good ending Chizuru asks him what happened, for the bad one she just assumes the worst (GASP. AS IF SANAN WOULD EVER DO ANYTHING WRONG)
He politely says that murder is his job then takes his leave.
*surfs the net and listens to the sounds of the game so I don't have to watch Inoue die AGAIN*
Stabdad: Sanan, join me and I can cure you of being a vampire!
Sanan (on good end): Nope
Sanan (now): Hmm. Would the injuries I had before being turned stay healed?
Stabdad: Of course!
Sanan: Ooooooh.
Kaoru: Lol you are such a dumbass *stabs at Sanan*
Chizuru: No! *is stabbed* No...regrets...
THE END
Sanan you ass. I guess he MIGHT have chosen Chizuru EVENTUALLY.
Unrequited Love Ending:
Stabdad: Sanan, join me and I can cure you of being a vampire!
Sanan: Nah I'll just torture the information out of you ;)
Sanan takes on Kaoru and Stabdad and tells Chizuru to run for the Shinsengumi.
Ah, it's like the Saito ending! She's waiting for him to show up before they all leave for Edo. Except this time there's no last minute appearance. Instead Heisuke sadly gives Chizuru Sanan's broken, blood covered glasses, found on the scene. Heartbroken, Chizuru vows to leave the Shinsengumi in Edo, so that noone will be burdened with her protection any more.
THE END
On to Edo Blossoms!!
I've found the "make him endure bloodlust" game overs kind of underwhelming so might do those first.
Chapter 1:
Aw, he's so surprised when she gives him a hug to help ease his pain.
Ha that's right this is the chapter where all the evidence points to Sanan being a serial killer but he was ACTUALLY KILLING THE REAL SERIAL KILLERS and ONLY CHIZURU BELIEVED IN HIM.
Aw except this time she has a moment of doubt and he's SUPER SAD. Still, when Heisuke says he suspects Sanan, Chizuru is all HE'S INNOCENT I'LL FIND HIM AND PROVE IT...and stumbles into the actual serial killer (a stray Imperialist vampire) and gets stabbed.
THE END.
If Actual Serial Killing Baby Eater Sanan doesn't kill Chizuru in any of these after Okita killed her in like FIVE of his bad endings I'm going to feel offended on Okita's behalf. (I mean he bullies children and cheerfully murders a lot of semi-innocent people, but...ah, never mind)
Chapter 2:
This time Sanan tries to push her away when she goes for a hug, obviously worried he'll lose control and eat her.
HA. So, Heisuke and Hijikata have cornered Sanan standing with a bloody sword over a murdered corpse, and LACKING SUFFICIENT FAITH IN HIM draw their swords. And this time instead of protesting his innocence Chizuru just steps back. HARSH, CHIZURU.
And then the corpse gets up and stabs her because it was the real bad guy all along! Chizuru is overcome with guilt as everything goes black.
THE END
Chapter 3:
All the evidence points to Sanan collaborating with Stabdad. Sen asks what Chizuru wants to do when she find him and she says she's not sure.
Time for triple demon lady teamup time! I forgot about this bit. They find Sanan surrounded by bloody corpses (FOR TOTALLY INNOCENT REASONS) and without offering him her own blood Chizuru is unable to stop Sanan being overcome with bloodlust and drinking blood from a corpse, which he is embarrassed about afterwards.
Sanan is attempting to murder Heisuke (OR SO IT SEEMS BUT IT'S ACTUALLY 100% INNOCENT) and everyone else is fighting, leaving Chizuru to defend herself against a bunch of vampires. One of them manages to grab her sword and stabs her with it!
Sanan: Chizuru ;_;
Kaoru: Vampires! I ordered you to stop! D:
Stabdad: Oh well. Guess I'll use the other demon girl instead ^_^
OK THEN STABDAD.
THE END
Bad Ending:
Chizuru is trapped in Stabdad's castle and Sanan seems to be happily collaborating with his plans to drain Chizuru's blood every day for Evil Vampire Science. BUT OF COURSE SANAN'S INNOCENT AND EVEN NOT KNOWING THAT CHIZURU LOVES HIM ANYWAY.
Sanan's self hating "How can you love me after everything I've done"/"being around me is doomed" sexy villain shtick does gain added zest having seen him on other routes genuinely being the villain he only sees/presents himself as on this one.
When Chizuru makes him endure bloodlust and he groans in pain he says "Pay me no mind. Consider it karma for letting one as beautiful as you to endear yourself to a creature like me". Haha, aw, typical Sanan.
During the final confrontation with Stabdad Sanan just...starts to dissolve into dust. Chizuru cries out and runs towards him but Kaoru stops her.
Kaoru: I've lost you once sister, I'm not losing you again. Don't worry, I'll take good good care of you. Except for the agony you experience every day as we drain your blood ^_^
THE END
Unrequited Love Ending:
Stabdad gets all THANKS TO MY IMPROVED VAMPIRE SERUM MY POWER LEVELS HAVE REACHED 9000 complete with descriptions of bulging muscles.
Sanan: You have faster reflexes, but that is no replacement for the months of practice I spent honing my skills with the blade.
I'm assuming that's a mistranslation lol. Whole entire months!
Sanan: *stabs Stabdad*
Stabdad: I suppose it was never going to end any other way. But it looks like you'll be joining me in hell.
Sanan: *turning into dust* How unfortunate :(
Chiruru: No ;_;
Sanan: I never thought anyone would ever cry over me, that in itself is a light in this dark time. But may I ask one favour?
Chizuru: What is it?
Sanan: Please, leave your memory of me behind. You still have a future. Find another, one who can give you what you need: happiness. *turns to dust*
Chizuru: I can't promise that ;_;
"I clutched his ashes to my chest but they spilled from my hands, as all things do, carried away by the bitter wind".

Aw, that was sad.
But he didn't even come close to killing Chizuru once. Yamazaki got closer in the good version of his path! Hmm, I wonder how many Yamazaki ends involve him stabbing Chizuru and feeling VERY BAD ABOUT IT.

Date: 2018-11-01 04:26 pm (UTC)I was very distracted with health issues when I wrote this, which I think dulled the emotional impact a bit. But you've sold me on Heisuke/Chizuru as a follow-on to the Unrequited Love endings, that would be so sweet. And he'd be all "well I am nothing like Sanan, who she is clearly still in love with" but I think Sanan-path!Chizuru would suit him, once she'd had time to mourn.
