Hakuoki: Okita bad endings

My brain: You know what would help with the angstier parts of this Okita/Saito/Chizuru fic you're writing?
Me: No.
My brain: Playing Okita's bad endings.

SO.
***Spoilers, angst, blood, death. The usual.***
Kyoto Winds Bad End!
Chizuru is staring down a blood covered Okita, who has just murdered a bunch of dudes in cold blood while high on being a vampire and enraged by Kondou's recent shooting. She wants him to stop, before his vampire nature takes control entirely or he ends up arrested.
Correct choice: "I want you to do the right thing"
What I am about to click: "It's not what Kondou would want"
Nnnnng. *click*
Chizuru: Even if you do find and kill the guy who shot Kondou, it won't help him heal from his injury.
Okita: Maybe not. But what else can I do? I'm not like Hijikata, I can't petition to shogunate. Nor can I be like Harada or Heisuke or Nagakura and have the relationship they have with Kondou. That's why I became a vampire, to become a better weapon, but now I'm useless again!
Chizuru realises that under his anger he is a scared child and that she hurt his feelings.
GOD. He doesn't even think Kondou likes him especially compared to the others ;_;
There's gunshots and Okita runs to investigate.
Correct choice "I'm worried about you"
What I am about to click: "There's no point in stopping you"
Koaru's gunmen shoot at Chizuru, and this time, Okita doesn't take the bullet. She starts to die.
Okita: Chizuru :( I guess the one thing I can do now is avenge you. I'd say wait for me in the afterlife, but I'm pretty sure I'm going straight to hell.
She hears Kaoru's dying cry of pain, and then everything goes black.
THE END
Kyoto Winds Unrequited Love Ending: "I want you to do the right thing" + "There's no point in stopping you"
Chizuru says it's ok if he sees himself as a weapon, but right now he's just being controlled by his emotions, wanting to feel like he has control in a scary situation. Which is understandable, but not something he should give in to.
SO. He takes the bullets for Chizuru.
But afterwards he draws his sword on her!!!
He says she's the reason he got shot, and can't avenge Kondou. She looks at him in fear and guilt. He puts away his sword and says "Never show your face to me again. If you come near me again I will kill you. It's not a joke or a threat, and I don't care what Hijikata or anyone else says about it."
As he walks away he mutters "I should have said this a long time ago. I wonder why it took me so long to get there..."
THE END
Kyoto Winds Bad End:
TIME TO DRINK OKITA'S BLOOD
Huh she didn't eat him. It was sweet and kind of sexy, she felt really close to him and wondered if this was how he felt when he drank her blood.
I guess he'll just be weaker later and die tragically some other way! Hooray!
Uh.
They're still going? And now they're drinking each other's blood at the same time?? Also I actually got to see Chizuru's demon form! I have seen a few images of her in demon form but she's always crying, I guess it's just a bad end thing. And it's...look I know it's all sex metaphors but this is really very much a sex metaphor. Are they going to sexy blood drink each other to death in some sort of simultaneous death orgasm?
Nope, they stopped, and the plot continued.
Aw, I forgot how sweet their first kiss is. (I am delaying seeing the end nnnnnnggg)
Instead of fighting Okita himself, Kaoru sends some of Stabdad's "new improved" vampires, who are less sentient but stronger. Okita just laughs at the idea of numbers beating skill, and starts to kill them all. But with all that blood, Chizuru worries his cravings will overcome him.
And then it does, his hair goes white and he starts wildly attacking the dead bodies. She runs to try and calm him down, and for a moment he recognises her...and then he stabs her.
As she falls to the ground and the world starts to fade, he regains himself and cries out her name. "Don't worry, I won't let you die alone", he says "I'll be right behind you".
THE END
This is exactly the sort of bad end I was expecting when I did Saito's bad ends, but it is definitely more in character for Okita.
Kyoto Winds Unrequited Love:
Stabdad: You may feel safe with Okita now, but what will you do when he dies? Humans will persecute you if they ever discover you are a demon, and I want to save you from that.
Kaoru: Give it up uncle, she'll never agree with us. And if she's not our friend, she is our enemy...unless we kill the man poisoning her mind >:D
Kaoru and Okita fight, with Stabdad throwing scalpels. But then Kaoru takes advantage of a moment of distraction ti stab at Chizuru, saying she is the one he really hates. Through blood covered eyes she sees the two men clash, and both take fatal blows. Kaoru falls first. Okita has time to ask Chizuru to tell him again that she loves him, and apologise for leaving her so soon, and then he dies.
THE END
So you know how when I was playing the Okita path a few weeks ago I had bronchitis, and then a cold? Well, I got better! UNTIL AFTER I STARTED PLAYING THE BAD ENDS. I HAVE WOKEN UP COUGHING EVERY NIGHT SINCE THEN. I AM BEING HAUNTED BY THE ANGRY CONSUMPTIVE GHOST OF OKITA SOUJI.
Time to finish it *girds loins*.
Now for making him endure his bloodlust:
Chapter 1:
He collapses unconscious with pain!
Later Chizuru encounters him arguing with Yamazaki, who calls him Okita-san, and Okita has no compunctions about pulling rank as a captain to avoid following doctor's orders. WAIT I've seen this scene! Ah, oops, gotta play with low romance and high corruption.
OH MAN. So I decided to check his points page to see what making him endure it did and he was at "critical" corruption levels, with a very sad looking white haired sprite. I'm sorry Okita ;_;
Okita and Kaoru fight. Okita is winning, but being splashed with Kaoru's blood makes him teeter on the edge of being overcome by his vampire instincts(*).
Kaoru: Oh so my little sister was so heartless as to not give him blood.
Chizuru: I feel so guilty D:
Me: ME TOO OH GOD
And then he kills her and Kaoru is all "Well that was over quicker than I was hoping".
THE END
WELL THAT WAS UNPLEASANT.
Chapter 2:
Okita is fighting Kazama and Amagiri when he loses control.
Chizuru cries to Kazama that she doesn't want to live without Okita but Kazama is unsympathetic. And then...I think Kazama kills Okita?
THE END
Chapter 3:
The "Souji cries out in agony while Chizuru holds him" CG sure is vivid. THANKS GAME.
He has another bloodlust episode while they're hiding from enemy soldiers. Okita attacks the soldiers, increasingly savage, until he's hacking at dead bodies and laughing maniacally.
Chizuru tries to talk him down...and succeeds!
...only to get shot by one of the remaining soldiers. She dies.
THE END
THANKS BRAIN THAT WAS A FUN ADVENTURE.
(It did give me some ideas for my story though)
(*)Or "insanity", as they put it. Do not get me started on the portrayal of disability in this game.

I thought drinking blood would be a bad end because Okita is weakened by tuberculosis and really can't spare the blood. But instead there really didn't seem to be a logical connection between the blood-drinking and the bad end. I mean the bad end happened because Evil Dad summoned all the furies, and because Okita went blood-crazed, but it's hard to draw any sort of logical connection between blood drinking and either of those things. And the blood drinking scene was *so* nice. It was hard not to read it as having Unfortunate Implications about female desire. Which I'm not sure were intended? But the only other time a woman drinks blood in canon (unless I forgot one) is that horrifying thing where Sanan feeds his blood to Sen.
Beh, that's why I had to write Sen/Kimigiku blood drinking.

RIGHT??? It annoyed me to no end. In general the game left me wanting to see some women blood drinking, and this path came close but didn't portray it very satisfyingly (even asides from generally being Into Lady Vampires) Hooray for your fic :)
