Never sure how much detail to go into about such an inherently gross thing outside my medical filter but wanted to mention it and am too lazy to make two posts.

So! I had a colonoscopy yesterday and it went fine. Am still waiting on the results of biopsies but they didn't seem concerned.

Prep was unpleasant but not the scary unknown it was last time. Past a certain point I stopped being hungry which was good.

Note to self for next time: stop taking iron tablets in advance (it was on an info sheet they gave me like 5 minutes before the procedure, THANKS HOSPITAL SYSTEM) and have straws for the final, especially unpleasant liquid you have to drink TWO LITRES of. It's weird, what little flavour it has is just salty lemon, but my body had a pretty strong THIS IS POISON STOP DRINKING reaction.

Hospital staff were nice. St John of God in Midland has a cute thing where each floor has not only a number but a colour, symbol and name, which seems very helpful for ESL and cognitively impaired people.

Doctor had moved the time forward without telling admin so I hadn't been fasting long enough and had to hang around a bit, but had control of a tv with lots of channels (hooray for digital tv!) so it was ok. And then he screwed up my initial IV site so that hurt and he had to do it again, hmmph.

Luckily he was fine at the actual scoping-part of his job, which I was only somewhat sedated for so remember like a odd but not unpleasant dream with lots of poking and weird images on a screen.

Afterwards I had an actual dream then woke up and was told nothing awful had showed up but I did have some polyps again so they want me to come back in six months urrrrgh. Also got some pictures and a report, which I have not looked at yet. Will not be posting these selfies to tumblr ;)

Went home, ate some cereal, and slept for 12 hours. I woke up at 4:30am feeling refreshed and only slightly hungry, but after a small breakfast felt an INTENSE CRAVING for chicken udon which I made shoddily and enjoyed a great deal. I left the burner on but Cam noticed when he woke up, oops (I had fallen back asleep at this point)

Have been enjoying ALL THE FOOD today, mmmm. I feel a bit physically weak but otherwise pretty good! And if you follow me on multiple social media: yes, I did have a bunch of posts I wanted to make but was waiting until after the colonoscopy was over to do :)

My commiserations, as someone who's probably going to have to do it in a few months again, too.

A tip I read (and used successfully last time) was have the prep with a straw, side by side with a straw in clear lemonade and suck both. Con: even more liquid. Pro: So Much Less Gross tasting.

Hooray for an unpleasant experience being safely behind you!

(...hmm. Perhaps not the best choice of words?)
