Here's the 2014 post.
1.What did you do in 2015 that you'd never done before?
Distributed and sold a game in a vaguely professional way. Also, started learning French. I am very bad at it.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year's resolution: be more social. Learn to engage with people more sincerely and deeply.
I kind of did? A little? And that's pretty much my aim for next year. Plus... learning to let go of things making me feel bad with no purpose. Including accepting that I will never be as social as I would like haha.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I can think of!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just Australia. Didn't even leave the state!
6. What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?
a girlfriend
Hmm! Well, asides from the usual (health etc) 2015 was actually ok? Ish? I guess I'd like my family to be more stable.
7. What dates from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Probably the games festival. And the first Christmas with mum and dad separate, that was something! Oh, and having a colonoscopy. What an exciting year!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Selling my game! FOUR COPIES AND COUNTING. And just generally getting involved in the local game making scene and not letting imposter syndrome hold me back too much.
9. What was your biggest failure?
The one that bugs me the most is not having business cards ready for the festival. Though they STILL haven't sent me them (I left it a little late for the festival... in October) so now I have to complain and get my money back.
10. Did you suffer (new) illness or injury?
Not that I can think of! Wow!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Is it sad to say Alpha Bear? I really like Alpha Bear.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
HMMMM. The first thing that comes to mind is the Let's Make Games people for organising the local game making scene.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Last year it was Tony Abbot, this year it is Malcom Turnbull. Plus ça change...
14. Where did most of your money go?
Most of the household's money went on the mortgage. Most of my personal money went on food and medical bills.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The games festival! PEOPLE PLAYED MY GAME AND LIKED IT.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2014?
Uptown Funk and Take me to Church
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? happier?
b) thinner or fatter? About the same.
c) richer or poorer? Slightly richer in that the mortgage is slightly smaller.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I'm not sure! I've been trying to let go of guilt, so. I guess I wish I'd done more accepting of myself.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Feeling guilty :)
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent the 25th with Dad and Cam and my brother Theo at the family house, recently sold (!) Smallest family gathering I can remember, usually my other brother and his fiance will be there but he was on holiday, and it used to be as many as 11 with mum and her family and friends. Was quiet but nice. Spent the 26th at Cam's parents with my inlaws and my mother which was also nice. Mum was being a good unopinionated guest which meant both days made up the quietest Christmas I can remember haha.
21. Did you fall in love in 2015?
Nope! Noone new anyway.
22. How many one-night stands?
Lol.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Hmm! Not sure. Highlights include Ore Monogatari, Yurikuma Arashi, The Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt, and Sailor Moon.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not hate, exactly, but my opinions of some people are certainly much lower.
25. What was the best book you read?
Hmm! Ancillary Sword, maybe?
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Again, have not listened to much music. Did not get into Hamilton, that feels notable. Oh, and I discovered that Sia was the artist behind a bunch of songs I like :)
27. What did you want and get?
Sold my game :)
28. What did you want and not get?
Significant sales of my game.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
STAR WARS. Probably. If it was something else it has been overwritten.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 36 and went out for sushi with Cam.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Well, as always, better health. Telepathy, spent a bit of time trying to guess other people's thoughts.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?
Black pants and mildly interesting tshirts, mostly. Varied with the odd little skater dress and cool socks.
33. What kept you sane?
desvenlafaxine
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Dr. Ebrahim Afsah, lecturer of the Coursera course "Constitutional Struggles in the Muslim World". He is distractingly pretty.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Thinking about this question just makes me angry. SO MANY. Probably refugees and climate change?
36. Who did you miss?
Lots of people, felt too sickly to connect as much as I'd like.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
The Let's Make Games people I didn't know already.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015.
It's ok to let go of people who make me sad. Also, it's ok to accept my limitations and not beat myself up for not being the person I would like to be. These are not new lessons but I am learning them in stages.
39. Something new that worked out really well for you during the year.
Joining the local games community worked out reasonably well?
40. Quote song lyrics that sum up your year:
So after much thought the best I can come up with:
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
And now it is 2016. Happy new year!
