Art prompts for my new tablet!

Was going to just comment to lizbee since she was asking me about tablets but WHY NOT GET PROMPTS AS WELL.

So! Art prompts! Original or fannish! No zombies or porn! Preferably something simple because I want to try out the new software, Artrage, that came with the tablet (whatistigerbalm cheers in the distance(*))

And for Liz and anyone else who's curious: it's a medium sized Intuos Pen and Touch Creative from Wacom. Which has been discontinued and replaced with some very similar tablets (eg the Intuos Manga) with no eraser. *clutches eraser* I like it so far! I am a little sad it's not compatible with my old Bamboo pen, since it would be nice to have a spare. Also it has a custom USB cable which will be annoying when I inevitably break it >.>

(*)That is the one you're a fan of, right? It seems pretty nice so far! I only got the older version, 3.5, and not the Pro, but my needs are relatively simple.

Thanks, here you go! It ended up a bit sketchy since I was figuring out where all the buttons were etc.

I'd not really drawn otters or meerkats before so had to look at lots of reference pictures of adorable animals. Just one of those sacrifices one makes for art ;)

That was fine :) I tried to get in as many of those as possible, just imagine she is singing about using her bow during the Blight.

So the good news is I really like DaveKat and would love to draw them, the bad news is I am WEIRDLY BLOCKED on what specifically to draw. Any more detailed preferences/ideas? (nothing too sexy please)

Thank you for the update! I've been using my iPad for art for the last few years, but I occasionally think about upgrading my warhorse of a graphics tablet.

I've never done art on an iPad, do you use a stylus?

Yes! I use a Wacom Bamboo stylus and the Sketchbook Pro program, although I just tried to download that for my new iPad and found it's called something else now.

I usually do the line art by hand on paper, then scan it and colour it on the iPad. I've been having a go at inking on the iPad as well, but it's quite unforgiving of hand wobbles.

I have no idea what's available for the iPad or how they'd compare to Sketchbook but there's programs which are designed to smooth out wobbly lines, they can be a bit annoying when they make things TOO smooth but can be good when you want to sketch at low resolution without jaggedness.

I've looked into that, but they require newer iPads with Retina thingie whosit. Since I don't need an iPad that fancy, I've been nosing around, looking at Chinese Cinteq knock-offs -- there's one brand in particular that I've heard is very good, although I can't remember what it is.

I mean, I can just keep on doing line art by hand for most stuff. I just envy other artists with their talent and hard work smooth, flawless lines.

Yeah, there's nothing like undo and zoom for making lines smoother, my traditional art is a lot more rough around the edges.

3.5 is perfectly good! I use the latest version cos I've had AR since the beginning and I'm faithful to it.

The best thing is making your own brushes. I'll tell you how if you're interested!

Thank you! Still figuring out the basics for now, and I think I'll mostly still stick to Manga Studio since it's better suited for my usual art style, but ArtRage looks perfect for the paintovers I intend on doing for game backgrounds and once I get into that I may well come asking you for advice!

I have Artrage and it's lovely, even though I don't have the talent, skill or dedication to do much more than splash colour everywhere like a kindergartener and sprinkle on the glitter. I do like its chalks very much.

Prompt: I loved your tortoise-person, so REPTILES. Your take on lizard-men or snake-mages or anything you like!

She's lovely! I like her scale mail and her snaky hair and her lovely knees under the dress! And I like the detail of her belt with the coloured beads knotted onto it.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the little details :) In my head she has shiny braids since they look a little like scales but it didn't come across in the art.

Ooh yeah. It's been the year for it so something "Post Apocalypse"? I'll leave exactly what the apocalypse was up to you. (Heh. Mimetic Virus embedded in My Little Pony triggers a "hive mind" uplift and these are the people left behind. This stuff writes itself!)

Here you are at last! I had this vague mental image of both something round and shiny against a starry sky and a city skyline against the horizon, then took a while to figure out that a dome would let me have both.

And thus are just in time :D It wasn't as bad as it might have been since as it happened I was going through a phase of doing mouse based 3D art anyway. But then I got sick of that and started missing the tablet.

Wellllll in the elaborate plotbunny I naturally have, Elizabeth's technically Mr Bennet's apprentice, but he's so lazy that she ends up doing all the actual work, and Darcy gets assigned to partner with Mr Bennet (in practice: Elizabeth) after his original partner, Colonel Fitzwilliam, gets injured. (And at first he thinks both a padawan and her backwater planet are beneath him.)
