Hello! I have edited this slightly since assignments went out because they snuck up on me.
These are just some ideas and whatever you make I am sure I will love it. Here's a general description of what I like in art and writing.
For this exchange in particular I am very much interested in female protagonists and scifi/fantasy themes. Also if I have misunderstood a song please stick with my misinterpretation not the actual meaning :)
Isobel by Bjork Youtube lyrics
I'm interested in the ambiguity of identity between Isobel and the singer. I would like something exploring them as in some ways the same person but in some ways not, eg a clone, alternate version etc. Specifically I imagine the forest creating Isobel (or the singer) as a companion, in the same way as it created the story for the Bjork character in the Bachelorette clip, and this again being both affectionate and a bit creepy. Or perhaps time/the universe has split and spiralled in on itself and they are from alternate universes. Or perhaps the forest created both of them "in a forest pitch-dark, glowed the tiniest spark, it burst into flame, like me". Or she created her alternate self herself. I am certainly down for femslash but other relationships (parental, friendship, antagonism) are also good, I'd just want to avoid a simplistic good twin/evil twin dichotomy or too incesty a vibe. I can see stylised mirrored/ying-yang etc art being really good for this prompt.
Blinding Florence + the Machine Youtube lyrics
I want a woman escaping a trap she went into willingly for what seemed like good reasons but then realised she had been betrayed, with an emphasis on her happiness after escaping. Beyond that I'm open minded. It could involve a romantic relationship, as the song implies, but I would like there to be more to it, and the "wrong world" she was in love with could be some utopia or other ideal they were working towards (something to do with saving or avenging the death of someone?). One scenario that comes to mind is her being or becoming part of a machine and letting herself be used in sleep to...process data? Predict things? And thinking she was helping a good cause before realising she wasn't. Or the "sleep" and "dreaming" could be metaphorical, and she was mindlessly doing what she was told. I prefer a science fiction setting but for art some metaphorical fairy tale elements could work.
Girl With One Eye Florence + the Machine Youtube lyrics
The song implies a straightforward attacker/victim dynamic but I'd like something more balanced. Either a rivalry between equals, or the singer starts out with more power but the girl with one eye gets significant revenge. I'd like the singer to care about, or have cared about, the girl and genuinely have been made upset. The obvious situation is romantic exes, but if that's not your jam (or in addition to the romance) I would be cool with business partners/rivals or something else like that.
Rebel Girl Bikini Kill Youtube Lyrics
I want a happy teen romance between the two girls, beyond that do whatever you like! Setting it around the early 90s would be extra great! I kind of like the idea of setting it in Australia since that where I spent my teen years but only do that if it strikes your fancy. Or science fiction/fantasy literal rebels! Not post apocalyptic or zombies though.
