Penny Stirling has a story published in Heiresses of Russ 2014: The Year’s Best Lesbian Speculative Fiction. Have bought my copy but haven't read it yet, I like lesbians and stuff by friends but don't tend to like short stories.
Book One of Horizon is finished! Horizon is a really interesting alternate history scifi fantasy story
whatistigerbalm is writing about historians piecing together history after the world sort of ended (...I think) and trying not to get into trouble for heresy.
I got quoted in a Buzzfeed article about Chris Lilley's brownface. I don't recall being asked for permission, but I would have said yes so eh. At least people are talking about it now.

Date: 2014-08-12 12:51 pm (UTC)(And thanks for linking that! It's a massive fiction writing experiment for me so I'm happy to take any and all feedback. Next up, new characters!)
ETA: I just read the Lilley piece (I never heard of either show) and, wow... "Lilley said in an interview published this week on Splitsider that he did a lot of research for the show, spoke with people who have been to Tonga" so I went to the interview and holy shit, that's exactly what he says. He knows people who have been to Tonga; not that he's been there, lived there, consulted friends who spent their lives there. Wow. Wow.
As for the crediting, do they need to ask? I'd say yes if they wanted to reprint your entire piece, but citing from an essay in a non-personal journal meant to be read (and engaged with) by the public strikes me as being within the etiquette.

Date: 2014-08-13 12:30 pm (UTC)ohhhhhh I'm so sorry I was going to make a special effort to remind you during nominations but I got all self conscious and "she probably knows and decided not to sign up and you'll make things awkward" and then got distracted :( :( And...this is the one I'm starting. These are just the fandoms I got from the people who signed up. Since I'm the mod I could wedge you in anyway as long as you're ok drawing for any of the signup fandoms or The Losers, Suikoden III, Tales of Legendia or Portal. The advantage of a small exchange is I can be a very hands on mod :)
Some of his acquaintances have been to Tonga, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT??
Yeah I guess they didn't need to ask, just the friend who sent me the link expected them to have and so I had this moment of "huh, no they didn't".
