My personal theory on "perfect Blue" is that the only "reality" in the entire movie is the 2 minute "flashsideways" to the police station where two cops are talking about the heroine as if she has completely retreated from reality. EVERYTHING ELSE is hallucination.

I asked one of the panellists afterwards why they recommended the OAVs over the TV show*, and let me just say they are Wrong™.

See? Wrong™ ;)

(*) Basically, they like the hugely compressed story of the 5-episode OAV over the 50 episode two seasons of the TV show which had room for more character development and stories from the manga, which is my preference.
