Forgot to mention: ISOBELLE CARMODY BORROWED MY HAT. She bumped into me in the lift as I was coming into the hotel and asked to borrow it for a friend getting over skin cancer (it's got a remarkably broad brim). She apparently later spent an hour looking for me, then left it at the front desk from where it wound it's way back to me. I of course totally forgot to say anything about liking her books, but she KNOWS WHO I AM. Which is kind of cool :)

Invisibility
Dragonflies fly at exact same distance/angle from prey so they prey doesn't notice them.
Disruptive colouration breaks up the edges.
Possible to fool ONE viewer if you keep track of their position and show them an image on a screen/mirror etc of what they would see if the object wasn't there.
Augmented/virtual reality:
"Invisible" cars and planes use screens and camera to let the pilot/driver see the road/sky around them.
We CAN cloak microwave.
If you could bend gravity you could do reverse gravitic lensing. Or you could BEND SPACE ITSELF.
Radar and sonar: sends out signal and sees how it gets reflected by objects, so to be "invisible" you just have to mess with that one signal. Absorb, distort, delay etc.
Go so fast they can't see you! Can work with speed cameras in theory.
If someone is "out of phase" with our reality they couldn't see US either. Unless their retinas stayed in phase and floated about, visible...
Transparency is a chemical property. Can't make transparent engines, but you could make a transparent shell or arrow, or a transparent bag of poisonous/explosive etc gas. Refractive index may also be an issue, need soft transitions between different densities to prevent visible edges.
Sodium hexaflouride is clear and super heavy.
