Went out to Point Walter with
lilysea today which was almost entirely lovely. Unfortunately, my wheelchair started running out of juice just as we arrived, and by the time we left it was getting the lowest I'd ever seen it...until I turned it off and on again at which point it would always say it was TOTALLY FULL OF POWER...for a few minutes, at which point it would admit to being at even lower power than it was before. Which gives some hint as to how I failed to notice how low the power had gotten until it was too late to turn back.
I tried to force the damn thing up the hill to the nearest bus stop, watching the gauge steadily drop, and got down to one single sad little red bar before giving up and getting
lilysea to ring for a wheelchair taxi (I'd never used one before) Turning it on and off again to get to some shade the confused machine said it was at nearly full power while simultaneously making a pathetic beeping noise and refusing to move faster than a crawl.
We made it to Lily's (since she had enough money to pay the taxi in her house) where we were happy to discover that I could use her chair's recharger. An hour or so of resting on her comfy couch later I decided to risk going home...and the chair claimed to be at full power the whole way. I DON'T BELIEVE YOU, CHAIR.
Anyway. The river was lovely as was the company (I was very glad to have such a pleasant and competent friend at hand when things started to go wrong), and I have now had a VERY STRONG REMINDER to set things up so it's easier to remember to bring my recharger with me on long trips. So overall I consider it a win :)

Date: 2013-06-16 03:51 am (UTC)I was with Lily once when she had to call the RAC because one of the little front wheels had fallen off her chair, it was surreal! And in the end they threw their hands in the air and gave her the number for a dedicated wheelchair repairer.
