My wheelchair has been making a funny rattling noise for...a while. Today I decided to investigate getting it seen to. The company I bought it from offered to check it out for free so decided to go visit them. In Malaga.

A woman from Transperth commiserated with me about the lack of any accessible busses nearby, and suggested I ring the depo to ask them to send an accessible bus for the route that did pass nearby. "That's way too hard" I thought. "I'll just go a bit further by 'foot' from the nearest accessible stop."

Cue me driving in circles for some time to find a path going in roughly the right direction, backtracking when it vanished and finding another one, travelling in the hot sun with no shade in the wasteland between Roe Highway and the adjacent residential area (1km of empty sand walled in on both sides and dotted with cactii and sad looking watermelon plants as well as some random garden chairs), backtracking a bit more, and then driving for about 2km along narrow bumpy roads with no paths or curb cuts and lots of large scary trucks. At one point near the end I stared across four lanes of busy traffic at the crossing road I needed to get to, the nearest curb cut a good 100m away, and thought "If I don't turn back I WILL DIE" (I found a detour and did not die)

Needless to say, next time I am ringing the depo.

Once I got there they made tutting noises over the funny rattle and various people said "Wait, a Maverick came in with a problem? But they never break!". I sat in a series of very comfy reclining chairs (which the staff then made a mild effort to sell to me) then came out to see my beloved wheelchair IN PIECES and was told it would take AT LEAST A DAY to even figure out what the problem is let alone start fixing it. On the plus side they're very motivated, wanting to make sure they're not about to get inundated with broken Mavericks they sold on a promise of unbreakability. I told them I have a unique ability for breaking tech by just looking at it (my life is a constant stream of "I've never seen one do that before!") but they were not comforted.

Then I took a taxi home and the cat cheered me up about being trapped indoors for the forseeable future by sitting in my lap and adorably radiating "NEVER LEAVE ME AGAIN".
