Questions and Answers
What pairing/genre/fandom did you create that you would never have predicted in January?
A/B/O fic, lol.
What's your own favorite work of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Probably Practical Applications of the Turing Test. Both because it came out pretty well, and because I really wanted a fic like it to exist.
Did you take any creative risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Drawing and writing for kink memes! Writing for a challenge instead of doing art! Sort of sexy fic! I learned that I can actually do it under the right circumstances, and that people will actually like it.
Writing ACTUAL ORIGINAL FICTION. It didn't get as much of a reception as my fic, which I expected, but was still really satisfying to get out of my head.
Signing up as background artist for a game. This has gone really well, I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up or that my art wouldn't be good enough but that really hasn't been an issue.
Making fanmixes and podfic. It was fun, even if I have a feeling they're not very good.
Do you have any creative goals for the New Year?
Finish the game ahahaha. Write more. Push myself artistically. Finish that damn final chapter of "Mistress of Pemberley". Record more podfic even though noone listens to it.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best works of this year:
Best writing: Practical Applications of the Turing Test. Best art: The Gryphon and the Dragon.
My most popular work of this year:
Practical Applications of the Turing Test, in fact it has the most kudos of anything I've ever posted on the AO3. Most popular art on DeviantArt was Superhero Rose and Kanaya, which definitely has more to do with it being Homestuck and linked about a few places than it being any good.
Work of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Bethany and Merrill play cards (art) and Scars (writing) They're not brilliant, but they're not bad and got pretty much no feedback at all.
Most fun story to write:
Military Intelligence. Nerdiest thing I ever wrote. Most fun to draw probably Science!
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Either Practical Applications of the Turing Test or Acceleration in Parallel from the Universal Laws of Motion. Fade to black sex omg!
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Military Intelligence. Meshing EDI with the rogue AI from ME1 really made me think about her character.
Hardest to create:
Mistress of Pemberley. Started off ok, has gotten increasingly difficult. Artwise, the monster girls meme, especially robots. I love robots, and I can write them ok, but they never seem to come out right when I draw them
Biggest Disappointment:
Giving up on writing any more Wedding is Destiny.
Biggest Surprise:
The way Mass Effect took over my brain for a while there. Writing for kink memes! Original fiction! Working with a group to create a game! Actually probably that last one is the MOST surprising.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
More the sheer volume of sexy fic about robots.
In conclusion:
I was worried that the game would suck up all my creative energy, but it doesn't seem to have. Also, I really like robots.
I haven't included all my art, just the stuff I think is moderately good/interesting.
