I have this amazing ability
Oct. 19th, 2012 04:51 pm...to always get attached to the characters who the plot's going to screw over with no fanfare or remorse. Often these characters are POC or women so I can blame it on racism/sexism etc. The one time I get attached to a minor white guy instead of the POC and female minor characters AND THEY KILL HIM. Off screen, even!
*sniff* Poor Charlie. And now to twist the knife we have a doppelganger who'll be hanging around being evil for a while wearing his face :( :( Hopefully we get some proper mourning of the character once everyone else realises he's dead.
I can see why they killed him though, given how many times they barely escape with their lives SOMEONE on the frontline had to die eventually, and he really didn't have much to do apart from being our connection to the mundane police force, which seems to be the new girl's job (and I do like the new girl) Still, he was adorable :(
One episode into the season and I'm enjoying the way they play with the moral ambiguity around Phillip and...whats-her-name from Massive Dynamics. There's quite a lot of nice moral ambiguity in the show, really, without descending into that irritating "shades of darkish grey plus DARKEST BLACK" that usually passes for "moral ambiguity" in popular fiction.
(nb I love Olivia and Astrid too, but I know they make it to the later seasons. Even if Astrid apparently remains just as neglected, sigh)

Date: 2012-10-19 01:52 pm (UTC)During S1, I was mostly just holding out that Charlie survived the season, it was so very clear that his days were numbered. Then to have him die in the season premiere of S2, well... I had gotten what I had begged for, hadn't I? He had survived the first season.
I get a huge kick out of Evil!Charlie, though. And yes, Olivia will mourn her Charlie. How could she not? And not just Olivia, either.

I know. But he had a nice swan song in his final scene with Olivia, I thought.
And that is such a Charlie way to die, chasing down someone who is gunning for Olivia. Especially after the MPREG!CHARLIE ep, where Charlie was all, "Promise you won't get hurt for me," and Olivia was all "As if you wouldn't be doing the same if our positions were reversed." And she was right, because he is CHARLIE, and he NEVER SAYS NO TO OLIVIA.
(I do still very much miss all those scenes where Olivia would call him up and ask for something outrageous, and he would LOOK at her for a bit, obviously thinking this is OUTRAGEOUS and he SHOULD NOT, and then he would say okay. Because he is Charlie, and he never says no to Olivia.)
Aw, Charlie. Salt of the Earth, you were. *sniff*

Date: 2012-10-21 12:31 am (UTC)Or Phillip/Nina? Cos I kind of ship them but the shows seems to too :) (I eventually realised I was having trouble remembering her name because it's the same as my mum's, and the cognitive dissonance was messing with my head)
