I realise I never squeed about this game!
Dangan Ronpa is a Japanese murder mystery game set in a school, the vibe is generally described as Phoenix Wright meets Battle Royale. It's dark and funny and clever and weird and I love it.
Of course I don't speak Japanese, and it's not translated into English, so like most English language fans I've been following along the Let's Play on the Something Awful forums, which has all the dialogue and lots of screenshots as well as links to background music and youtube clips of the animations. The combination of images, dialogue, and animation is not unlike reading Homestuck (the "Oh god you poor adorable terrible teenagers" feeling is not dissimilar either...)
While the player character is a guy there is the most adorable f/f couple, they're not explicitly together in canon but are SO femslashy. In general the game is sympathetic to all the characters, even the more villainous ones, and there are some clever subversions of typical anime/manga tropes.
Except the talking bear, he's just horrible. I watched the first episode of Polar Bear Cafe just after reading some of the LP and spent the whole time wanting to punch the talking panda in the face just for having some very superficial similarities.
The game isn't without some issues, and if you want to minimise your contact with fat hatred and heteronormativity etc I'd recommend skipping the forum discussions surrounding the updates (otherwise it can be fun to see other people's speculation) But overall I think it's pretty good and worth checking out if it sounds like your thing.
