I can't believe I watched this legally on the ABC a few hours after it premiered in the UK! Good going, ABC, I hope this is a sign of things to come.

Anyway: I wasn't a huge fan of season 6, and was worried we were going to get more failed attempts at Epic, but this didn't try too hard and set up some mildly interesting context for the upcoming season, so I am moderately optimistic.

As an individual episode I thought it was ok. The premise is as problematic as you'd expect from the title, and while not done as badly as it could be is in no way subverted, and there were plot holes and heavy handed "surprises", but it was entertaining enough.

No, seriously, the Asylum of the Daleks? Full of EVIL CRAZY DALEKS WITH PTSD that the Doctor is disgusted at the daleks for not euthanising? Wards with no doctors, jut to add to the hospital-full-of-scary-crazies aesthetic? Pointless chains for the super crazy ones? I was discussing it with cam, and how cool would it be to have "crazy" Daleks who were, like, nice? How does a prison planet full of crazy evil people even run? Of course that's a valid question about Dalek society in general...

I knew Oswin was a Dalek who would die from pretty early on, which I find fascinating (if a bit cliched as a tragic twist) and wish we got more of a look inside her head. I totally forgot that actress is playing the companion until Cam reminded me afterwards and am now super curious. You all know me and morally ambiguous genius female cyborgs/robots with a complicated sense of self :D Dalek-ised humans are much more interesting to me than humanised-daleks were, and I'm wondering where the "the daleks have forgotten the doctor" thing will go.

Apparently people think the episode is sexist? Beyond all the female characters being typical Moffat spunky-sexy (which is fine as ONE kind of female character, but gets a bit blah as a pattern) I thought it was fine in that respect. Amy and Rory breaking up was typical start-of-season drama but I thought was handled ok. Meanwhile the black guy not only died first, HE WAS DEAD ALL ALONG. Ah, Stephen Moffat, you predictable scamp.

I am fond of unable to do emotions Amy and i adored Oswyn. I founf the daleks really creepy this episode. But yes on all your critiques. I enjoyed it because i generally enjoy Who but felt very... Sad about some of it.
