This was pretty good! Sooo white, and not as much Catwoman (or any other woman) as I would have liked, but didn't hate poor people anywhere near as much as the last two and was in general quite a thrilling ride. Also Catwoman was pretty amazing when she was onscreen, and Joseph Gordon Levitt looks very nice in a police uniform.

And now, spoilery thoughts.

SPOILERS NO REALLY TURN BACK

Is it just me or does batman's hovercopter thing look like a big black prawn? (I like to lead with relatively unspoilery spoilers)

Oh man. TWO morally ambiguous intriguing hot brunette kickass female characters in one movie? It almost makes up for the lack of ANY OTHER WOMEN.

I went from thinking "This really is a story about dudes" to "ARRGH, RAS AL GHUL'S CHILD WAS A DAUGHTER NNNGGG NOLAN" to "Taaaaalia <3 <3" (I haven't read that much Batman, but one of the ones I've read was about her)

Joseph Gordon Levitt was so pretty. And I love love love that he becomes Batman or something like it, this orphaned boy from the wrong side of the tracks who has always cared about trying to make things better. Something I really didn't like about the previous films is that while Nolan tried to make us care about The City (including it's criminals) they were all either faceless archetypes or Crazed Supervillains. In this film we actually met some regular people, including criminals with rational, sympathetic reasons for getting into crime. (And a little Cameo from Dr Crane, hee)

That was, like, two whole lines of dialogue Christopher Judge got as Black Thug #5 before he died! Which is more than Nameless Asian Partner got. But the race issues in this film are so fraught I can't begin to address them.

Marion Cotillard was great, I really believed her as a CEO. I knew she had to be a bad guy for reasons of narrative causality (one of the girls had to be, and Selina was too obvious) but somehow failed to realise she was Talia. I was thinking ex-League of Shadows somehow complicit with Bane.

OH HEY she marked the wrong truck on purpose, lol. Just realised that.

I am amused that she is two years older than Tom Hardy, though he looked way older in the makeup. How often do women get to play the daughters (or daughter figures) of younger men? :D

I so want fic about Selina running her own little enclave during Bane's revolution. Maybe she met up with Talia...(Hey, how could I not femslash them, c'mon. Even if EVERYONE but really diehard Eames/Arthur shippers is going to be shipping Batman/Robin, JGL gave him such soulful looks and it's a pairing with a massive fanbase already. Even I ship it a little)

The class messages in this film were very muddy, I'm not sure it really said anything, just used lots of potent imagery, from Occupy Wallstreet to the French Revolution. I was proud of myself for recognising the "Tale of two Cities" quote used in the elegy (shut up I'm a maths major), lots of delicious symmetry.

I liked that Bruce's complete disregard for his health in the previous films came back to permanently bite him in the ass. I wonder what he and Selina will live off. Maybe he'll become a software engineer and she'll become a jeweller and she'll only steal every now and then from really obnoxious people with extra specially pretty things. I'm not sure they'll stay together permanently but that's ok, they helped each other out when they needed a friend with a different POV and that's what matters. The little Catwoman/Batman shipper that's been inside me since Batman Returns is happy at last though.

I like to think that after the film was over Gotham was like "Yeah, so. Bane was an evil dictator and all, but we do like this whole equality idea, maybe we could keep that?"

*experiences deep sadness at the realisation that I don't have my "flying mouse" icon on this account any more*
