Fanfic Titles
Apr. 4th, 2012 05:43 pmI've seen a meme going around where people say what song lyrics inspired their fic titles. Well, of the 47 fic I have at AO3, exactly...zero have titles from song lyrics. I do have a piece of fanart called "We Used to Be Friends" after the Dandy Warhols song, though most of my fanart has exciting titles like "Foreman and his younger brother" or "Romance in Dragon Age Origins: Attempt number 5".
But I decided it would be interesting to see what I do use to title fics, and I need to distract myself from the fact that it's OMG Swancon tomorrow.
The Hero of Ferelden, There Can Be No Peace, A wishful fancy, Trying not to fall into the sky, Please tell me you're here to kill me, At the gates of the black city: quotes from canon
Not far from the vine: the phrase "the fruit doesn't fall far from the vine" and the canon song "leaves from the vine"
Just This Once: Dr Who quote
Sex and the Citadel: "Sex and the City" tv show
Bodies in Motion/Acceleration in Parallel/Action and Reaction/Frames of reference: laws of physics, specifically Newton's laws and special relativity
Wedding is destiny, and hanging likewise: proverb (found via much googling after I decided I wanted an ironic 18th century quote as the title)
Most of the other 33 have descriptive titles like "London" or "The Time Traveler's Guide to Creative Anachronism", with a couple of random phrases that just sounded right like "Meanings tied up in dots and lines". The physics law naming system was fun, I might do something like that again.
