What to draw at Swancon

At 3pm on Friday afternoon of Swancon (NEXT WEEK!) I'm going to be helping to run an art workshop for kids. Apparently my only job is to sit there and draw and answer any questions the kids may have.

I could just draw whatever I feel like, but I thought I might as well try and draw something that'll appeal to them. So, since many of you may the parents of the actual kids in question: what do you think they'd like? That way I can try and think of ideas I feel inspired about, and get some reference images ready.

Or I could take requests on the day, that's always fun :D My laptop should have the internet enabled, which will make off the cuff reference finding doable. I don't know, I haven't done anything like this before!

Mine are keen on doctor who and avatar:the last air bender. Also, studi ghibli movies - totoro and kiki's delivery service are the ones that come to mind.

My middle child was very keen on a conversation this afternoon regarding daleks - I was talking about making quilts (single bed), and that was the request a one enormous dalek with a border of sonic screwdrivers.

Hopefully this bit of babble is useful - I have little coherent left to say anything very sensible.

Taking requests is good. As a starting point, from experience here - dragons, robots, complicated and interesting weapons, anything Star Wars, robots, starship blueprints and ancient maps, tentacled aliens, and mythical beasts.

Conveniently, those are all things I enjoy drawing :) (Except the blueprints, but I can probably get away with a few vetoes)

My first thought was Daleks.

That's two votes for daleks! They're nice and simple to draw too. Though personally I'm not a big fan, they scared me too much as a kid.

We are very much stuck on dragons around here...daleks would be also good.

Also, bear in mind that kids panels are very 'randomly' attended - you may be drawing for 10 or none.

Also, mine could well be interested in 'drawing along' if you are set up for it and prepared. Pepper pot daleks....

I think the plan is to give them stuff to draw with, but I'm not organising that aspect. Come to think of it, I have some lego daleks I could bring as models...
