So, one of my plans for the new year was to declutter the house, specifically the library (most of the rest of the entrenched clutter is Cam's, I'm more prone to drifts of mess that rise and fall like the tides) It's been quite successful!
Going through the bookshelves I found various cool books I 'd forgotten we owned. There weren't that many I want to get rid of, but Cam's said he has plenty of his he's going to ditch.
I came up with the brilliant idea of putting the wrapping paper in the cupboard rather than having it jut out of the wrapping materials box making everything untidy and impossible to stack. I then put the rest of the gift wrapping materials in neat labelled boxes. Aussie Farmers Direct fruit and veggies come in these nice cardboard boxes, we only had two in the house but I'm sure I can fill one a week with clutter from now on.
I finally got around to dealing with The Last Box from when we moved in four years ago: various letters and diaries. I just moved it into another, much smaller box but it's made half a bookshelf accessible when it wasn't before. Rereading some of my diary entries was WEIRD. I kept wanting to give teenage me a hug, poor self conscious miserable little thing that she was. I also found some adorable 20-ish year old art by my siblings (now in their mid twenties) that I may have to put on Facebook :D
I discovered a new thing carpet beetles like to eat: Coles biodegradeable shopping bags. I was distressed to see the tell tale splotches of dusty beetle poop in my fabric stash (which I hadn't checked due to (a) laziness and (b)It not containing any animal products), but the fabric under and inside the bag was fine, while the bag itself was full of holes. What do they make them out of, wool?
The cat has found it all very exciting. New things to sniff! The topology of the room changing! A great big new empty cardboard box to play with! (Cam bought a little evaporative airconditioner for the bedroom for really hot nights, and Kira fell madly in love with the box. She seems pretty happy with the moving box too, she's not going to like it when we get rid of them)
