Yeah, I know, noone cares about my dreams

This has been running around my head all morning, so I'm going to write it down. I found it involving, but objectively it's pretty derivative and generic. I read some stuff about Mary Sues before bed and I think that influenced my subconscious :D
Contains some briefly described violence/needles.
So, I was an ordinary person minding my own business (while also being Mary Morstan from Sherlock Holmes. Ah, dream logic) This guy, who obviously knew a bit about my life and habits, came to the church I was helping pack up after service when I was mostly alone and kidnapped me, calling me out by name and saying he'd leave everyone else alone if I came with him.
I went, but I found it very confusing that anyone would want to kidnap me. I was vaguely connected to some powerful people, so I asked if this was an extortion attempt and he just laughed. I was taken to a nearby building, and he started me asking me urgent, confusing questions about the man on the ninth floor. Except there was no ninth floor, if you tried to go past 8 in the lift you ended up at the first floor again. He got angry at this and said we should walk up the stairs and I pointed out that I have serious health issues that preclude this (I was perfectly able bodied for the rest of the dream, but even my dream self balks at stairs :D) On the one hand I had no clue what he was talking about, and had never been here before, but on the other I felt this weird pull and sense of familiarity.
Somehow we did get to the ninth floor, but not really? There seemed to be a party going on and he expected me to try and mingle but I was having none of it what with the whole being kidnapped thing. Most of the people did seem nice enough, though some seemed to be in league with my kidnapper. I realised that while the settings and clothes were fancy, the food was all just plain vegetables and rice, and I got a vague sense that this was all they had access to, and that the cheerful atmosphere hid an undertone of desperation.
I only got flashes of a sense of the man on the 9th floor, but felt oddly connected to him, and was filled with an intense certainty that if I could just meet him he would explain and fix everything. My kidnapper mocked me and said that I wouldn't want to meet him now, he was all rotten and near death.
Some stuff happened and somehow I was running away from this thing in league with my kidnapper, and some women were helping me. We sank into the ground, and I started to choke on the dirt and freak out that I could hear the thing burrowing down towards us, then suddenly I fell into this underground room. An invisible forcefield held back the dirt, and the thing came up to it. He just looked like a man. He gave a toothy vicious grin and licked the forcefield, then sat there waiting.
The women I was with seemed unconcerned. They explained that I was…something, and that this facility had existed for a really long time to protect people from the forces of darkness, who were always after People Like Me. They took me to their haven, which was in a little pocket universe or something. Everyone was just hanging about playing at the beach and stuff (my dream self did like beaches, apparently), which was nice, but felt a bit strange so soon after running for my life. Then I was asked by one of the people in charge to help him set up this tower thing, like it was a big honour. We put our hands on this metal object and it grew into a giant T shaped thing, like a massive stretched out power pylon. This was very exciting, I felt filled with magic or something and like I'd really helped out Our Group. I looked forward to staying here and doing more exciting things.
"Wow!" I said to the woman in charge, "What was that? Is it a power transmitter to keep out the forces of darkness or something?"
"Oh, no," she said dismissively, "It doesn't really do anything. It's more a symbol, you know? To remind everyone of the potential we all have."
I found this unconvincing. Then it wasn't long before I was being sent back home, since my orientation was over. "Won't the forces of darkness come after me?" I asked
"Oh, you'll be fine!" they said. "But, uh…do watch out for demons and stuff." I got the feeling they were totally done with me, and felt a bit taken advantage of.
Since the pocket universe was out of sync with the real world, there was some time shenanigans, and I ended up arriving at UWA in 2003. I got the impression that I was expected to feel lucky to be taken back so close to my original time and place.
A bit disoriented, I and my friend (who was with me for some of this, then got totally forgotten about at some point) walked across the lawn. I bumped into a uni friend and chatted to them, trying to act like 2003 me with apparent success. Later it occurred to me that I don't look the same as 2003 me, and I wondered if I'd had my 2011 mind put into my 2003 body.
Just as I was settling into life in 2003 a guy (played by Danny Devito) came up claiming to be a representative of the forces of good with instructions. "I'm supposed to trust you and follow your orders now?" I thought, but didn't say anything. He told me to meet him at a certain place at midnight.
Some weird looking lumpen things came up to me and said "Don't trust him! Whatever you do don't go to that meeting!" At first I assumed they were demons, but somehow they came across as more trustworthy. They told me some stuff I have since forgotten (I think they might have been genetically engineered Forces of Darkness slaves who got away?) I didn't go to the meeting.
Danny Devito guy met me again the next day, very annoyed that I hadn't turned up. I said I forgot. He made another appointment to meet, and I got the feeling things might go badly for me if he realised I didn't trust him.
I decided to go back to the nine floored building. I only got to floor 8, which was empty old shops. I heard some "forces of good" guys talking about looking for the man on the ninth floor themselves. One of them asked me what I was doing there and I said I was lost then made my escape.
I met up with Danny Devito guy that night, and we went to a concert of primary school kids singing an Icelandic epic. On the one hand: way less dangerous than I'd expected. On the other hand: very dull. Then something happened and we were attacked or something? Danny Devito guy got a gash across his arm, and we ran away again to another forces of good hideout.
It very quickly became clear that this was a trap. The forces of "good" were the same as the forces of darkness, a group of powerful not entirely human beings who recruited other powerful humans such as myself (who were way more common than I'd been told), took advantage of our power as much as they could, and then either convinced us to join voluntarily or turned us into mindless drones. I saw the girls who'd given me my orientation forcing some of the girls who'd been given theirs at the same time into chairs where needles were put into their eyes, leaving them bleeding but smiling vacantly.
Since I was seen as weak and untrained they saw no need to restrain me while I waited my turn. I yelled at the girls who'd "saved" me, asking how they could betray people like this, and they couldn't meet my eye. Danny Devito guy cheerfully started to merge his power with mine a bit so he could control me into going into the chair without complaint. I realised that (a)I was actually more inherently powerful than him, if untrained and (b)The fact that some of his blood got into my mouth during the earlier struggle meant I had even more power over him. So I started to take him over, and then ate him (it was a bit gross, but I only felt slightly guilty). I felt increasingly powerful, and aware of my not entirely human status. I grew big white feathery wings and flew away.
I went back to the nine floored building. The ninth floor was entirely real and solid for me now. I went into the function room. The party was similar, but even less fancy, and the only food was hydroponically grown algae and rice. I realised that this was to some extent a memory/projection of past events.
Back in prehistory, a group of young spoiled rich aliens had gone on a little jaunt on a shuttle to visit our solar system, a brief picnic away from the larger space ship they were travelling on. Somehow they got separated, and were forced to crashland on Earth. Unable to eat earth food or breathe the atmosphere, they slowly starved to death one by one. Eventually only one was left. He put himself into cryogenic storage, and the ship on standby power. The projection of himself into the mind of humans is the man on the ninth floor. Initially he was able to walk the earth freely in the form of a man and talk to people etc, but over time even this psychic projection became ill and corrupted through lack of power.
Although the aliens main priority was simply to not die, the mere presence of the ship and it's byproducts had a huge effect on earth. It was responsible for the existence of powered humans such as the Forces of good/evil (though I think some of the higher ups may actually have been another species of alien), and the source of the technology they used. This is why the Forces wanted access to the Man and his ship: to get infinitely more power.
The other people at the party were other powered humans, as well as the ship's crew: not the original crew but their descendants or AI constructs or something. In some ways noone else felt real except me and the Man.
Along with this knowledge I realised that I was not just another powered human: I was in fact his daughter. Not biologically, exactly, but somehow his presence had gotten my mother pregnant or something? (My parents in this dream were not my real life parents) He spoke to me in his human form and was very glad to finally meet me. He said that life for him and what was left of his crew had gotten easier since humans had invented electricity, since he could tap into the power grid, and that this conversation was causing some blackouts somewhere so we couldn't talk for too long.
He wanted to meet in person, so I went to what looked like a cupboard and up came a cryogenic chamber, in which was a frozen and frankly rather ugly looking little wrinkled grey alien. "My dad looks like a rotten fish" I thought, with some amusement.
And then things with the Powers got settled somehow, and I left. I felt very optimistic about the future: it was 2003, so I had some foreknowledge of things to come, and I had all this power. I decided I was going to get myself some money and influence, and then build a power station. Then I flew off over some trees into the sky.
(There's a bunch of things going on in this, but I think the main influence is a discussion Cam and I had last night about possible plots for Mass Effect 3)
