Transcript for second half of "voice" meme
Dec. 7th, 2011 03:24 pmIn which we discover that I do have some favourites after all.
EDIT: Dammit youtube, way to make everything out of sync again. I don't have the energy to fix it, sorry.
Hi! The sound got really messed up at the end of that last video, so I decided to record the last few questions again. I was also reminded that the two reasons that I didn't do the voice post when it first went around my tumblr dashboard was (1) I don't really like voice posts, and (2) I was going to go on for about three hours because I love going on about my opinions, and then I'm going to have to do a transcript of it all. Yay that's going to be fun [INDEED]
7: What is your favorite class to play? (Warrior, Rogue, Mage)
I don't have a favourite. Again, I don't really get favourites, but I always play rogue first because I find it really frustrating to walk around the game for the first time and there's these chests and I don't know what's in them, and I'm there going "Maybe it's amazing!" And of course you play Dragon Age 2 and it's always like torn trousers, but I didn't know until I played. So I always play rogue, and I kind of enjoy the idea of being that little bit…rogue-y.
And I like setting things on fire, so I like being a mage. I really liked being a mage in Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age Origins I found being a mage a bit complicated. I'm not good with complexity, I like simple things where I press a single button. I'm a button mash kind of player. If there's an auto thing so I cam set it up, like in Final Fantasy 12 where you just watch the characters kill everything and you wander around and watch them do all the work, that was great. And mage isn't really set up for that. So probably rogue.
Warrior…I like hitting things with swords, but I don't like it as much.
8: Tell everyone a bit about your favorite Warden/Hawke.
My favourite Warden is probably Martya Brosca, my Brosca, because she was the first character I played in a Bioware game. I got really invested in her, way more invested than I've ever let myself be in a Bioware character again, because as I learned, I always screw up. I didn't realise that you could finish a game and "win" and have so many terrible things happen. She killed Zevran, she killed Alistair, she was estranged from her sister because oh no, she killed her boyfriend even though it's like "You do know he did murder his whole family right?" And you know, eventually Rica forgave her but it was very intense. And there was this whole new world, and I really liked the whole Thedas thing and it was all new, so that was the one that was the most fun.
My other two wardens were ok, the two that I actually got close to finishing the game with. I went through and played all the origins but Amell and Cousland are the two that I went on with. I always mean to play one of the elves at some point. I used my Tabris in Awakening, and I really like her, but she was too traumatised, I couldn't imagine her going "Yes, I'm going to work with a bunch of shemlen and save the world."
My favourite Hawke is May. May is my mage, she's my second Hawke. She was based on Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender and she really liked setting things on fire. She was an attempt on my part to play the meanest character I could manage. In real life, and to a certain extent in games, I'm a very conflict avoidant person, I tend to be nice to everyone, I tend to like everyone, I like compromises and trying to be understanding and stuff. So I was like right, I'm going to play a really really mean character who does all the douchebag-y sarcastic/violent choices, kills people every chance she gets. And I did that for a while and it was great. But then about halfway through act 2 the fact that I personally do not deal well with people not liking me started to kick in and I was like "I'm in a relationship with Isabela and it's just meaningless to her, she doesn't love me, and Aveline doesn't like me and Fenris doesn't like me and nobody likes me oh god" and so I started being nice to everybody a bit, as much as I could do while being in character, and it was actually kind of an interesting arc. Because May starts out being all "I hate everybody blah blah you all suck" and then underneath that she's really needy, because I'm really needy. And so it was kind of interesting, it was fun.
Also it was the first time I did a rivalry romance on purpose. In my first game I accidentally did a rivalry romance with Merrill and that was kind of traumatising because I didn't mean to have sex with her and it was…myah. The rivalry romance with Fenris was great. (A) Because I love relationships between two people who are really really different and then realise underneath it that they're really similar and get along. And because I got Fenris to 100% rivalry during Act 2 I could be nice to him for the rest of the game. I wasn't completely nice to him because May was still kind of a douchebag, but they kind of developed and learned to respect each other and get along. And at the end he sides with the mages and with May and so learns to get over his…I mean you can see why he hates mages, but he realises he can't let his experiences make him murder innocent people just because they happen to be mages. And I really liked that, that was great.
And my other Hawkes…I really liked them, they're all different. I'm not one of these people who has a canon playthrough, they're all different characters with different arcs.
9: Say the following - Ferelden, Amaranthine, Kirkwall, Tevinter, Chantry, Qun, Lyrium, Templar, Darkspawn, Mabari, Eluvian, Tal-Vashoth, Arishok, Phylactery, Enchantment, Rune, Right of Conscription, Orzammar, Paragon, Rivalmance, Friendmance, Antivan Milk Sandwich, Elven Alienage, Magister, Warden Commander, Champion of Kirkwall
10: Repeat the following quotes
-“Swooping is bad!”
-“Hawke stepped in the poopy.” I don't think that's a real quote from the game, although maybe it is and I've forgotten.
-“Death to all pigeons!”
-“How do you know that he doesn’t know that you know that he knows that you know, you know?”
-“Asschabs!”
-“Now we threaten priests, how fun!”
-“They will not have you…not while I breathe.”
-“Join us, brothers and sisters. Join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant. Join us as we carry the duty that cannot be forsworn. And should you perish, know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten. And that one day we shall join you.”
And with that I shall end.
