Dreamwidth invites, random DA2 rambling

alias_sqbrSince I know LJ's recent flakiness has increased the interest: I have a bunch of Dreamwidth invites if anyone wants one. PM me your email address. Archiving your old entries and crossposting to lj is relatively painless if like me you don't want to switch entirely, though you should wait until LJ's current wave of flakiness stops before importing.
I'm playing Dragon Age 2 for the third time and enjoying it more than I thought I would. The plot really is pretty railroady with most "important" decisions (especially early on) having only an illusion of choice, but with a sufficiently different personality the experience still feels fairly fresh. Rowan is a sensible devoutly moral pro-Templar female warrior, as a contrast to Stefan the good natured wishy-washily pro-mage-freedom male rogue and May the aggressive snarky amoral female mage.
The "Taunt enemies to come closer, make them explode with Holy Smite" warrior technique is nearly as much fun as making fireballs rain down from the sky as a mage :D
Rowan's rivalry romancing Anders, which is lots of angst and shmoopiness and should be FUN in Act 3, but I tried to get the romance stuff dealt with earlier this time so I don't spend all of Act 2 thinking "Are we going to get together or did I screw it up?" She also had a fling with Fenris because I am a weak weak woman.
I still keep discovering things I missed or just having weird little character moments. When I went into the Chantry (church) with Rowan for the first time I felt the need to stop for a moment in quiet contemplation of the Maker, which was...odd. And then I noticed two doors I managed to miss on both previous playthroughs :)
Act 1 dragged for me the first two times but I was dawdling this time so I wouldn't have to say goodbye to Bethany :( Rowan got Bethany to join the Grey Wardens, they had a complicated relationship since Rowan's so anti-magic, so it felt in character for Bethany to be a bit unfriendly about being recruited. I'm looking forward to seeing her again.
It's funny, my first two characters were pro mage but in love with Fenris, Rowan is friends with him but thinks he would make a terrible (if hot :D) boyfriend what with him being an emotionally screwed up jerk. The fact that Fenris ONLY disagrees with her when she's nice to people highlights his jerkishness, I think :) She doesn't like Isabela or Merril at all. I actually don't think she'd like Awakenings!Anders either, the same strong moral convictions he gets from Justice that irritated my last two characters are very attractive to Rowan, even if she disagrees about the specifics (oh yes, this will end well).
I'm hoping to be BFFs with Meredith in Act 3. I tried with May but the moment they met Meredith was all "Don't think I haven't noticed you, APOSTATE" which rubbed her entirely the wrong way.
Have I mentioned how much I enjoy getting into character with these games? So much fun.
