Today I went shopping! By myself! And bought a bunch of stuff! I honestly can't remember the last time that happened.

I decided to double check the bus timetable on the website, which was good, since they've pretty much discontinued the bus that goes from the retirement village very near my house (the last bus to the city leaves at 8:10am) So I caught the train instead which was more walking in the 37C weather than I'd been hoping for :/

Anyway! My plan was to use the free CAT buses that circle the city to walk as little as possible, and it worked really well. I ended up looping around the east of the city unnecessarily, but catching the bus again from the Op Shop I bumped into a tourist asking for directions to stuff I'd just passed so it turned out to be useful. Catching the CAT requires one to let go of any attachment to time efficiency :)

He and I got into conversation and he turned out to be from Libya, he was really excited about the stuff going on over there, if worried about his family. He said he was glad for Al Jazeera since the local news has so little info. And then we got into a conversation about the few nice old buildings left in Perth and I suggested he keep an eye out for the interesting renovations on the cathedral he'd pass at the far end of the red cat route, once again making my previous "unnecessary" diversion seem like serendipity.

I've always thought of Shafto Lane on the west end of Hay Street as a pain to get to, but with the CAT it was a very convenient nexus of shops I wanted to visit. In the end I got postal supplies(*), craft supplies, clothes, lunch (there's a place, "Nippon", that does brown rice sushi I shall have to try, though their teriyaki chicken was just ok) and had a squizz at Fantastic Planet though I was too sleepy to buy anything.

I don't feel too bad right now either! Though the pain etc may just take a while to kick in. I used my cane, my legs feel much better than they would have but my arms were very sad at me when I was trying on clothes, and they're not super happy about typing now.

(*)I am SLOWLY working towards sending out the first of the craft meme things.

Yeah, I've found that when I've had to use a cane; my feet thank me and my shoulders curse me.

I really should visit Perth some day. I've travelled the world, but I've seen hardly anything of Australia! Just the east coast.
