Inspirations for Fat People Art Week

Via Tumblr I came across Fat People Art Week and I'm going to try to draw something for it (possibly getting around to it sometime this month, knowing me :D) since I really don't draw many fat people which is particularly silly since I could just look in a mirror or draw Cam. (And I may well do both of those things!)

But! It's hard to think of what to draw. So, who are your favourite overweight(*) characters?

My attempts to draw the Vorkosigan brothers have all failed miserably, but I do like Mark from Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series.
While she's only Hollywood fat I am pondering using this as an excuse to draw Sarah Rue, who was Penny in Eastwick and the doctor girlfriend in Big Bang Theory.
Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender is pretty cool though he stops being fat once he decides to be really truly badass, plus I already drew him a bunch.

That's who comes to mind after a very brief think but there are of course lots of others. *ponders*

(*)Which is of course an incredibly subjective term. I like the "not thin" definition on the fat art blog, I guess.

Heh. I was just thinking I should draw Ursula from The Little Mermaid and pondering her inspiration, Divine, an actor in many other John Waters films. But yes, Tracy is cool.

HMM. I haven't actually watched much TNG, but I've chucked her into my pool of possible inspirations so we'll see if my muse pulls her out.

I can think of a lot of attractive actresses (and not a few actors) to use as inspiration, but not characters. You could do original characters, that's always fun.

Absolutely. But cool fat characters are a useful inspiration either way :)

Could always try one of Terry Pratchett's wizards? Rincewind is the only really skinny one; even Ponder Stibbons is plump at least. My other favourite TP to try might be Agnes Nitt (Perdita X Dream). Or how about Massha from the Myth series...

Hmmm. If I weren't pants at drawing people in general, this could be fun!

I think I'll do people with visual references to start with but they are all good suggestions.

Only way to get less pants is to practice! :)

Well movie-verse Sam Gamgee (LoTR) was only "fat" in "acceptable-by-Hollywood" terms but he's less insanely thin than the rest of the cast and the fattest of the Hobbits. Sean Astin reports he had to put on 35-40lbs for the role (ref: IMDB).
