Inspired by this post with a list of places to watch anime legally online almost all of which don't work for me (I'm still poking at this second list she linked to but am not having a lot of luck there either).
Free Streaming:
I have yet to find any anime on youtube that I can watch that isn't illegal. Thanks Youtube!
Paying for Downloads:
Please let me know if any of these site(s) don't work in your country and I'll amend the list (I tend to assume that international sites that work here will work in most other countries, but that's not always true)
I realise that these sites are restricted by international copyright law, but it would be nice if they made it simple to figure out if foreigners can access their content, in some cases I had to do a fair bit of poking about.
Free Streaming:
- ABC Australian public broadcaster, I don't think it works overseas.
- Crunchy Roll Anime. I recommend Skip Beat.
- Madman Entertainment Australia
- Anime News Network Australia has some for members but I suspect they may just be from CrunchyRoll.

Paying for Downloads:
- iTunes. But don't use the website, it lists stuff that's not available in Australia. And the only show on the Aussie store that appealed to me I can get for free from the ABC!
- Possibly quite a few others, it's hard to tell without trying and seeing if I get an error message and I've about reached my error message quota for the evening.
