Toy Story 3

alias_sqbrThere was a scheduled power outage in the middle of today so we went to see Toy Story 3.
Before it was a trailer for Legend of the Guardians which didn't look good but did lookvery pretty.
Then there was a Pixar short which was clever but whose message seemed to be "We should accept difference, because after all we're all the same deep down eg we all enjoy shiny lights and boobs".
Toy Story 3 was lots of fun, but did feel like they were more interested in having fun than telling a story with much depth to it. Plus oh the Pixar gender issues. More female characters than Up and they were all pretty good as characters but I could have done with less of Jessie saying "But what are we going to do, Buzz/Woody?". And the gender policing of Ken (who writes in sparkly pink pen OH NOES) was pretty gross (it was "lol he and Barbie are tragically earnest 80s throwbacks" to start which was amusing but crossed a line at some point).
Both Pixar films were slashier than I was expecting too, I'm not sure if that was just me.
Anyway! Still a fun day out.
EDIT: 7 Things I Disliked In Toy Story 3 captures my issues a bit more thoroughly. Plus, while this was comparatively subtle and I don't want to be spoilery, it did play into some creepy disability narratives.
