Man. Avatar: The last Airbender is awesome.

After two seasons of the teenage characters being involved in world changing quests and epic battles, being all serious and determined, it reminds us that they are in fact teenagers by having one of them go undercover at a school..and then sending the villains on a BEACH EPISODE. Where they dress in bikinis! And play beach volleyball! (The net ends up on fire) And talk about their feelings! (It's so hard to get boys to like you when you're a megolamaniac psychopath inclined to set them on fire) And go to parties! (Where..well..)

Plus the plot is fantastic but talking about that is spoilery, so I won't. But..ee! I am VERY invested in the charcaters and their world and the war and EVERYTHING.

I also see why people mocked the shippers who insisted they had deliberate subtextual support (this apparently got so heated the writers noticed and made fun of it). This is not a show that does het subtext. If characters are going to get together there are huge blinking signs saying LOVE INTEREST. And often smooches. Which is not to say you can't ship non-canon ships if you want, but I personally found the canon romance pretty convincing (though heteronormative) and there's more interesting things to speculate about.

Aah the beach. I love that episode so much. It seems a bit polarising though, I've seen people complain it was out of character for the fire nation girls to act like that. But I really love it. And also sparky-sparky-boom-man :D

Also how incredibly awesome is Toph?

Angriest is posting about Avatar... you're posting about Avatar... it's very confusing—I _don't_ think you're talking about the same thing!

I do not understand why people are so invested in their ship being canon. It's like, "Does anybody care whether a fanmade fight between Batman and Superman would be canon? No! Because they are doing it because it's FUN!"

Not that it wouldn't be nice for some kinds of ships (particularly the NOT HETERO ones) to be made canon, but still! Shipping is shipping! (Though it is also fun to speculate on which couples the creator[s] intend[s] in a work, but that is entirely separate!)

They're not - [livejournal.com profile] angriest is talking about James Cameron's new film, and [livejournal.com profile] alias_sqbr is talking about a TV series.

And if you think it's confusing now, wait until the film of the TV series comes out next year...

Love, love, love the way they develop over time as people - and the sheer range of characters!

There's a beach episode? Not that it's a bad thing but why is there always a beach episode?

I really like Sokka and Suki's relationship because they are teenagers acting like teenagers but with this really adultish undercurrent too (like with most of the characters, really). I was pretty much :D :D :D whenever they were on screen together, though mostly that was because I had spent a year wanting to know what had happened to Suki and THEN SHE BECAME SPIDERCHICK.

Look up "avatar book 4" or something like this? on youtube -- it was at a con in America. The creators trolling their fans again. :3

The year before they presented the actor character designs from The Ember Island Players (before the episode had aired) as designs for an upcoming movie, and then showed the first 5 or so minutes of the play, and from what I could tell via youtube and con reports, it seemed like they were gently mocking inappropriate cosplayers.

Which is why I cling to the belief that the Shyamalan film is just them griefing everyone. .__.
