[Poll #1479723]

Inspired by the fact that like 90% of regency romance heroines seem to have "gray eyes", and thinking about all the fantasy characters with gold or violet eyes. I thought it would be fun to compare with a relatively random sample of real people :)

EDIT: I forgot black, white, and "I don't have any eyes". Apologies to anyone these options apply to!

Mine are greyish green, so I picked both colours to avoid biasing the results.

I'd say their colour (usually) is closest to grey, but the colour they have when they have colour is green, so I have green eyes that are so dull that people might describe them (in the regency romance I star in...) as grey

my eyes either change colour (idk if this is possible) or look different at different times!

heh, it says "visually, gray eyes often tend to appear to change between the shades of blue, green and gray". i guess my eyes are grey, then! ;)

This describes my eyes pretty accurately. Although they do have odd flecks of yellow (I'd hesitate to describe them as gold ;-) in them.

If I wear a blue or green t-shirt people tend to say "wow your eyes look blue / green today" with a surprising degree of predictability.

me too! (blue/grey with gold flecks)

ha, yes, this describes the exciting life of my eyes quite accurately. they also have a touch of yellow - a thin ring around the iris.

Mine certainly do this, they go between dull blue/grey to vivid blue. I guess it depends on misc things like blood flow and diet. Also I think maybe it depends what colour I'm wearing, because our brains like to play visual tricks on us (stupid brains, not handling absolutes).

Ooo! I get to tick two! Mine change according to mood...

According to Leece "The colour of the sea after the storm", which I think is pretty damned neat.

Isn't that also the colour of Westly's eyes in The Princess Bride?

Aye... which is another reason I think that it's pretty damn neat.

Not to mention that it's another reason to love my sweety! (Let's face it, who would not want to be compared to Westly?)

I'm glad you used checkboxes because mine are brown in the middle, surrounded by green, with a dark grey ring around the outside. I usually call it peat bog colour, or green-and-brown. If forced into it by inflexible paperwork I say hazel, but that's not really accurate.

My mother has green eyes with a ring of orange! Mine are more plain. :(

Pond slime is nothing like peat bog!

BTW for extra data points:

Mum: grey (and as mentioned, sometimes look greenish or blueish)
Dad: blue
Brother: green
Sister1: blue
Sister2: blue
Sister3: green

I am the mutant one with dark eyes.

She doesn't have any of those symptoms, but maybe it's the unpictured Fleischer one?

Mine sometimes look brownish and sometimes look greenish (and sometimes I wear purple contact lenses but I figured that doesn't count).

I asked my mother when I filled out the form for my learner's permit, she couldn't decide so I wrote 'green-blue-grey'. Given one of the comments above though, it seems I only have grey eyes.

I always thought my eyes were black until someone pointed out to me that you can't have black eyes and after an hour or so of peering into a mirror closely and giving myself a headache I figured they are darkdarkdarkbrown. >.>

i did contemplate tickyboxing gold as well, as I often have gold flecks, but figured it'd mess up your stats

for the record, I have beautiful blue eyes. There was no tickybox for beautiful.

Likewise there is no tickybox for "weird blue", although I never quite figure out why [livejournal.com profile] nightmancyr thought they were weird.

I've ticked all the boxes that are the colours other people have used to describe my eyes. When I look in the mirrow, there is a narrow dark grey outer ring, a wide paler grey with hints of green/blue ring, and then brown? flecks surrounding the pupil. I have been told that this mix is 'hazel' which I've always wondered about - is that just a catch-all for 'not all one colour', or did the person talking to me not know what they were talking about?

seriously, I shouldn't be allowed out with a keyboard without supervision today. 'look in the mirrow' indeed.

grey/(blue) here, although like others with grey eyes they can look green if there's lots of green around!

I'm another grey-blue eyes with those orangey-brown bits around the pupil that I believe makes them hazel (as well as grey, which is why I ticked those two).
