Dreamwidth PSA (and crosspost)
Apr. 21st, 2009 06:40 pmThought I'd have a go at crossposting and also give a PSA:
If you want a Dreamwidth account, while you are welcome to join the queue you should also definitely get an OpenID account and validate the email address.
This
(a) Lets you comment, create aFriends reading list and even have icons, the only basic thing you can't do is post blog entries.
(b)Puts you in the running for an invite, and apparently guarantees you one by the 30th (a weekish from now)
For now, if you do get a proper account you can't join it to your OpenID but that functionality apparently is in the works.
nb I do not intend on crossposting much, since that'd just be annoying for people who've friended me both places. I just wanted to try it out :)

Date: 2009-04-21 11:14 am (UTC)I think if someone crossposts EVERYTHING you can just unsubscribe at dw (but still give them access), and if they only do it very rarely it's not too bad, but if lots of people are going to crosspost a significant proportion of their posts but not all that's going to get Very Annoying.

Date: 2009-04-22 06:23 am (UTC)I think it makes a bit more sense for essay-style posts, but I don't get why for just journal-style ones.

Date: 2009-04-22 03:47 pm (UTC)I hadn't thought about cross posting before. Actually, I keep forgetting that people who aren't in fandom will be migrating to DW.
I only hear about DW from fans and I'm looking forward to starting a fresh fandom blog totally seperate from my old political one.
So I was surprised to see postqueer over there already, it seems a bit beta to migrate a political com.
Assuming here that Fandom Love = [Invite + Icon Squee] > Beta Stage Woe.

Date: 2009-04-23 07:44 am (UTC)Didn't Strikethrough target a lot of LGBT content? (I may be misremembering in the wake of Amazonfaill) I can see that motivating people to leave lj as quickly as possible.
