While I'm doing memes :) I could do them with months, but I like having them all mooshed together to tell a (very odd) sort of story.

EDIT: So ok, yes, these are the subjects of the first posts of each month. Fine. Pedants :P See below for the first sentences. I like run-on sentences starting with the word "So" don't I?

Happy (chinese) new year!
Of books
The man who folded himself into the closet
On privilige
*sniffle*
What old Dr Who is good?
POLL: When is it ok to edit a blog post?
Revolutionary Girl Utena (The tv series)
Ambling my way into the history books
Stargate 2: The Goa'uld strike back!
Torchwood babies
Livejournal hacking

Was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] bantha_fodder making [livejournal.com profile] red_packet to make this Hapless comic, a.....

...fan comic (for Firefly).

So I've been trying somewhat successfully to cut down on my web surfing time recently, I was getting a lot of headaches and having trouble staring at the screen at work and decided I was spending too much time online in my free time doing nothing in particular.

So, good things I have watched/read recently (any theme being entirely coincidental :))

If you're unfamilar with the concept of "white privilige" I reccomend White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack.

Recently I've felt in need of something to read, and to that end reserved some books at the library.
Having watched the first two seasons of the new Dr Who I find myself wanting something I never thought I would: to watch old Dr Who.

Reading this post about the controversial decision to delete posts on Boing Boing and the fact I just made a post I've had to edit several times based on people's comments got me thinking about (EDIT :)) editing blogs.

So, penchaft lent me Revolutionary Girl Utena (The tv series).

On the way back from buying supplies for lunch #2 I came accross a group about to start The Giant Walk, an attempt to break the Guiness world record for the number of people walking at the same time.

What: Watch the next 3 "best" episodes of Stargate: "There but for the grace of God" and the season 1/season 2 double episode "Within the Serpents Grasp/Lair".

Torchwood babies Torchwood done in the style of "Muppet babies", very cute.

There's apparently been a bunch of popular livejoruanls and communities hacked recently via a loophole involving old lapsed email addresses.

I'm not sure the subject counts as the first line. Even if it does provide slightly more readable results. :P

From the introduction to his translation of Beowulf, Seamus Heany writes (http://www.wwnorton.com/college/english/nael/beowulf/introbeowulf.htm):

Conventional renderings of hwæt, the first word of the poem, tend towards the archaic literary, with ‘lo’, ‘hark’, ‘behold’, ‘attend’ and – more colloquially – ‘listen’ being some of the solutions offered previously. But in Hiberno-English Scullion-speak, the particle ‘so’ came naturally to the rescue, because in that idiom ‘so’ operates as an expression that obliterates all previous discourse and narrative, and at the same time functions as an exclamation calling for immediate attention. So, ‘so’ it was:

So. The Spear-Danes in days gone by
and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness.
We have heard of those princes’ heroic campaigns.

You misconstrue my point utterly. Utterly. You are using an Irish idiom, as identified hy Heaney, is my point. Also, I really like saying "So!". :)
