Awesome things from the internet
Apr. 22nd, 2008 09:32 pmFirst, Creature from El, some very pretty (and envy inducing) polymer clay sculptures.
Second, Square One TV on youtube.
I never really liked maths in primary school (well, except long division, that was fun) But I spent a LOT of primary school home sick(*), and the one thing that made me think that just maybe there was something interesting about maths was educational television, especially Square One, which was basically Sesame Street for older kids, and all about maths. The absolute best bit was Mathnet, starring Pat Tuesday, a crime solving female mathematician . (Thinking about it: have there been any other characters like that? The best I can think of is Amita from Numb3rs, and she's a bit of sidekick/love interest)
*is amused that the one thing that gets me into an 80s nostalgia trip is songs about roman numerals*
EDIT: *is suddely inspired to write a Mathnet/Atrocity Archives/Goedel Escher Bach fancomic with Pat Tuesday saving the world from self referential lovecraftianmonstrocities choose your own adventure books o.O Oh god someone save me from myself*
(*) Seriously, you may think I get sick a lot now, but this is a drastic improvement from when I was a kid
