Crash upshot: I didn't even get a headache. Fuckin' weird. Calluna was basically vague and headachy and a little concussed for 2 days, and is now mostly OK.

In other news, I have now gotten one of my new ATM cards, but not the other, and I haven't gotten my new updated-address driver's license or registration yet, nor my new wallet, so I have presents still upcoming. (Presents from myself. I like presents, so sue me.) The new wallet will be purple, and is redundant for now, since I was able to (finally) get to the Arlington Police Department a couple days ago and get my old wallet, which still had my $20 cash in it, and also my cat's prescription for her meds, and all the cards and stuff, so thank you universe for being gentle.

Also, I have been being frustrated in my photography habit because I couldn't find the charger for the specific camera I really wanted to use, currently, and I found two of them in my excavation of my car! Woo. (There's another one *somewhere* that I carefully packed in *some box or bag*, but I don't know where it iiiiiis. I was about to buy another one, but now don't have to.)

And now, a picture of my car (at the scene, with cell phone), cut because one cuts pictures. For some reason I didn't take any pictures, at the scene or elsewhere, of the entire length of the passenger's side, but one can see the issues. Also, I have been trying, for the past more-than-a-month, to fix my passenger side mirror, which I had munged in my garage. I kept having to reschedule because of Other Things Going On. So uh, don't have to worry about *that* anymore...

Today is mostly sunny, windy, and hot. It is 87°F outside. The promised pouring rain has not appeared, although it drizzled a bit last night. This is abnormally dry for March. :/

I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

I put out water for the birds.

So part of the reason Cale didn't accept a medal is because 'Heroes' are recorded and kept track of which is the last thing Cale wants.

The prince gave him a gold plaque that lets him purchase any item he wants twice on the prince's dime.

I'm a little hazy on the next plot stuff.

Chapter 49: Hmm so Cale is planning on purchasing the Magic Tower once the mages are forced to flee. With Alberu's money of course. 😏

It sounds like Raon will be able to get revenge soon!!

So in the OG timeline, the mage slayer found The Sound of the Wind, and Cale is trying to get to it before him now. He plans on blowing up the whirlpool.

Chapter 50-51: Toonka the mage slayer wasn't supposed to be there yet but he is, Amira rescued him from the whirlpool due to Cale's influence.

The Whipper Kingdom is anti-mage because mages are the only ones with easy lives.

Lol, Cale is torturing Beacrox with the wolf children.

Chapter 52: Confused, Cale said he went into the cave for an encounter but then he seemed surprised to find an injured whale tribe guy.

This beautiful human with messy hair that was crawling toward Cale with his hands, was a whale.

In any case, he obtained the Sound of the Wind.

Chapter 53: So the whale is half-human and died in the original story. He's the whale king's son.

This long-haired man really lived up to the stories about how the Whales were so beautiful that they made elves look like squids. Such a beautiful man was looking at Cale.

The whale stuff is interesting, wonder what will happen now that the whale/human Paseton survived?

I guess Bob is a name in this world? 😅

Chapter 55:

Maybe it's a good thing for Amiru to meet the whale tribe, I don't know how Cale feels about that though since he was trying to avoid them.

LOVED the art. Fun, colorful, cartoony, and expressive. Brings to mind Matt Groening and John Allison.

LOVED that there's more trans and genderqueer characters than you can shake a stick at.

LOVED the framing device with the kids in the museum.

LIKED the first half of the book with the Spiritual Association of Peers, a secretive community/cult that lives in the lawless exurbs outside the New York City Administrative and Security Territory and refuses to talk to the researcher sent to research them.

LIKED our hapless trans man Lucius Pasternak, researcher, who's just trying to do his job.

NOT KEEN on the second half of the book with the visions and the monster(s) as a metaphor for, idk, self-loathing or capitalism or whatever. It's not a trope I have a natural affinity for and this didn't sell me on it. I want real monsters or I want self-loathing, but don't outsource the problem. The romance also felt whatever. There was chemistry between them, but little else.

UNSATISFIED by the ending, which seems to be resolved in passing by two randos, but also raises a lot of big questions that go unanswered and left me skeptical.

IN SHORT, the first half is kind of a mystery where you're getting to know the players and the setting, and the second half is a kind of gory fairy tale where it's about types of people and social movements, big picture stuff, and I felt like it didn't really match up with the first half.

BUT I'm always glad to read something from Lubchansky and this was a fun way to spend some time.

You may recall I made a music post way back in early December sharing a song from The Terrordactyls, from an album I'd just bought for Bandcamp Friday. I bought the CD + digital combo, because I like owning physical media. As I had the digital download instantly, I wasn't too particular about when the CD arrived, and as December brought on a family crisis, I wasn't exactly watching the shipping very closely. Anyway, December passed, and then January, and the album never arrived. Physical items bought through Bandcamp are sold and shipped by the label, but they do give you a contact form in case there's an issue with your purchase. Though I wasn't especially broken up about it, I did contact the label asking if they could give me any information or a tracking number, and then again in March when the album had still failed to arrive. Receiving no response, I was about ready to be content with my digital album and give the CD up for lost. Sure, I could have filed a chargeback for the difference, but for the price of a latte, from an indie artist I wanted to support? Probably not worth it, to me.

And just as I'd given up, last week, a package arrived in my mailbox. Coming from Austria, as it turns out (I never got tracking info, just a shipping confirmation and an estimated delivery date, long past), which might explain the delay. (I'm in the US, and well. Waves hands at all that.)

But better late than never, and I'm delighted to have it. In addition to some fun album art, which I love, there's also four bonus tracks the digital album did not include.

Also got 2 compliments from much younger persons on hair (green streaks in) though as one was outside the Scientology HQ in Tottenham Court Road I fear this may be one of their recruitment strategies.

Today I am thankful for...

A safe trip home (Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning).
Finding out from my urologist yesterday that my bladder appears to be fully operational. NO thanks for my pelvic floor needing more exercise. I hate exercise.
x2x (1) and ssh (1), letting you share your keyboard and mouse seamlessly between two linux boxes.
Enough space in the kitchen area for two recycling bins.
A plethora of chargers with known locations, that I can lay hands on if I need one. (I also have a plethora of corresponding cables, but I don't know where all of them are.)
