I bruised my elbow yesterday which makes typing hard so of course my brain now desperately wants nothing more but to write a review post after months of not feeling like it. This will likely be pretty succinct and stream of consciousness.
Computer games:
puzzle lines
Planet Crafter
mystic pillars
Live action TV:
Ghosts
Severence
Yellowjackets
Computer games:
Mystic Pillars: Indian logic puzzle game drawing on Indian mythology. Pretty fun until the puzzles got too hard for me.
Puzzle Lines: I literally can't remember what this was and can't find it so I guess it didn't make much of an impression!
Planet Crafter: Early access base/craft/explore/survive game where you are a convict sent to start a new colony or die. Had potential but wasn't enough fun and had zero plot.
Live action TV:
Ghosts (UK original and US remake): comedy about a couple who inherit a house full of ghosts who died in the house over the centuries for various reasons. Not bad but didn't grab me. Cam really liked it. The US remake is fine, a little more soft and nice.
Severence: Great scifi about a company doing work so secret you have to volunteer to be 'severed' from your work memories, so that the work persona is effectively a new person, born as an amnesiac adult, for whom you leaving the job is death. They are generally not very happy about this! Does great character work, social commentary, comedy and clever reveals. Social commentary was a bit focussed on the life of a mistreated white office worker, leaving me going "but whats up with the cleaners?" etc, POC were alienating Other more than I liked. Sometimes a bit slow and surreal. But overall great, and while tense and dark in parts had a fundamental warm compassion that made it enjoyable.
Yellow Jackets: non-linear drama about a highschool girls soccer team who got stuck in he wilderness for a year in the 90s, and their lives as middle aged adults today. Lots of mysteries and messy, violent, morally ambiguous female characters. Very well made but not quite what I wanted it to be. A little too much dark, implausible, over the top soap opera (I wanted SOME of that just a touch less). I only watched a few eps then stopped.
And now my hand is sore from typing one handed so other media types can wait.
