So it looks like my computer will be fixable, but it'll take a couple of weeks. In the meantime I am using my previous laptop, which I stopped using in 2017 because the keyboard broke. Cam got a new laptop through work just as we were deciding if it was worth fixing, at which point it was put on a shelf and ignored for 3 years.

And this keyboard sure is broken! My 'new' laptop also has a broken keyboard because that is Just What I Do To Laptops, but it functioned ok once I added a USB keyboard. This laptop, alas, does not. The 'e' key constantly fires, and the only workaround I've found is a custom keyboard layout that turns off the 'e' key and uses the tilde key as an 'e' instead. Which makes typing a pain! (Does this stop me rambling? No)

It's been interesting poking a computer that's laid untouched since 2017. For the most part everything looked basically the same, though it was surreal going through my old longterm to-do list (some of which I had actually done in the last 3 years lol) and seeing what books/tumblr tabs/games/creative projects etc I was in the middle of.

During browser updates I accidentally lost all the tumblr tags, but...it was probably time to let them go. Though I am a little sad I missed the chance to give an updated reply to [personal profile] moonvoice talking about an email I sent them in 2017 full of panicked typos as my keyboard suddenly and dramatically broke mid-sentence.

The only program to complain much about everything being retro was Steam, which didn't like the old operating system, so I updated to Mojave (BUT NOT CATALINA(*)) *removes Siri and News from my taskbar*

I can't be bothered updating via the outdated backup, since it could make things confusing, so I'll just try and keep track of any files I make on this computer that I want to keep and transfer those over. I don't switch computers often(**), and it's strange realising how much of my data is online and thus computer independent. My longterm to-do list isn't, but oh no I'll have to ignore it for a while >.>

I may get frustrated and have to transfer stuff, we'll see. I only have one of my fic WIPs, the one I'm currently working on, since I sent it myself via email. But...the odds of me being inspired to touch the others during a given period of a couple of weeks are pretty low.

If it turns out my computer can't be fixed...ugh. I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Mostly it's just strange thinking how much has and hasn't changed in 3 years.

(*)The latest Mac operating system, Catalina, breaks a LOT of old software. Mojave is the one before that.
(**) I do also have a Windows machine but I use that for specific things like Blender and Windows-only games.
