Masterlist and guide
And that's the end of Season 1!
I liked a lot about this, Mitsuhide is a lovely, interesting character. But I really dislike reading stories in such an irritating, drawn out way. Also, I'm just generally not into historical RPF, since I enjoyed Hakuoki so much I thought I'd try some similar games but I think it was an exception.
MC comes across Mitsuhide shouting at Nobunaga that not everyone is going to betray him and there's no need to kill innocents.
Nobunaga shows off his guns to MC like an especially terrifying teenage boy. Ieyasu brings a letter from Oichi inviting MC to visit her.
And now Nobunaga is inviting MC to go falconing with him and Ieyasu oh god that sounds terrifying. As she sits with Mitsuhide on his horse he explains that it's used as a way to train people to take orders in battle, and she silently thinks "Of COURSE Samurai turn it into a battle thing..."
I got a little falconry factoid from Date Masumune, which threw me back to my home screen in the middle of my 5 scenes for the day, and I have Ieyasu smiling and saying "Such accusations. I just want Lord Nobunaga to have a good time." UM.
*clicks 'keep reading' with trepidation*
Ieyasu teases Mitsuhide about how nice he is to MC, saying it was him who organised for her to meet with Oichi.
Ooooh, MC sneaks out to pee and happens to see Ieyasu giving as retainer a rabbit to throw to Nobunaga's falcon. He sees MC, and asks her not to say anything since he "just wants Lord Nobunaga to have more fun".
MC: I saw nothing.
Nobunaga is having a ball showing off his falcon. He says that falcons, like humans, aren't meant by nature to be at others beck and call, which MC finds a teeny bit ironic.
Mitsuhide third person limited POV! HE HEARS A GUNSHOT??
MC is knocked to the ground by a horse and a distraught Mitsuhide runs immediately to her side, gently checking her for injury before even noticing what's going on.
Which is that someone shot at Nobunaga and then got killed by Ieyasu. HMMMMMM.
Mitsuhide cradles her against him on the ride back to protect her from the shaking of the horse.
MC: I'm glad Lord Nobunaga is alright.
Mitsuhide, whispering to himself: And you, too...
Mitsuhide POV: he's feeling depressed about being a bad samurai because the first person he ran to was MC, not his lord ;_;
The would-be assassin had a crest from the Asakura clan that Nobunaga was just at war with, fuelling the murderous resentment in the Oda clan, and Ieyasu mournfully tells MC she should visit Oichi soon. HMMMM.
Ieyasu: Your desserts are great, you should cook them for me at my castle some time :)
MC: Sure!
Ieyasu: Also, are you Lord Mitsuhide's lover? :)
MC: No!!! D: D:
Ieyasu: Just kidding ;)
MC: Haha :) (HE IS TERRIFYING)
She sees the end of a meeting where Nobunaga and Mitsuhide coldly agree to do something and she has a premonition that it's something awful.
MC: Lord Mitsuhide, what was that about?
Mitsuhide, coldly, without looking at her: I can't divulge strategy to someone who is no longer part of the Oda clan.
MC: Forgive me, I shouldn't have asked. But before I leave, I want to do anything I can for you. So please-
Mitsuhide: I have nothing more to ask of you *walks off*
She thinks: Was he only kind to her before because she was part of the Oda clan? She'd thought they had something more than that, but now he's walking out of her life forever.
;_;
A letter from Ieyasu saying HE'LL protect her??? >:(
and now I have to wait a daaaaayy aaaaaaahhhh :(
Inuchiyo and Hideyoshi say they'll visit her whenever they're in the capital, aw.
Nobunaga gives her a letter for Oichi and a fancy kimono. The latter was apparently organised by Mitsuhide and he gets grumpily sad when she thanks him.
Ranmaru: You should try on the kimono for Lord Nobunaga!
MC: Um.
Nobunaga: Not bad. If you want to stay, how about you do it in my bed? :)
MC: I refuse!
Nobunaga: lol
Sorry Ranmaru, you're stuck dealing with him alone.
Aww Katsuie is crying again as everyone sees her off.
She decides she should tell Mitsuhide her feelings while she has the chance. So she tries but he keeps being all cold and "I was only nice to you because it was my job" :(
Oichi!! <3 <3 At least SHE is open about how much she likes MC (...and her desserts)
IT'S 7PM WHERE ARE MY LOVE PASSES???
Aw but I poked around to try and refresh them and ended up at the "buy tickets" screen and the game was like "Uh, are you sure? You're JUST about to get some." And then they refreshed themselves at 7:01.
Oh wow Nobunaga's letter to Oichi actually made her angry! It's the single line "Return to the Oda clan". She has grown to love her husband and refuses to abandon him, even though she knows Nobunaga will win.
MC: I know it's my selfishness but I don't want you to be hurt, please go back.
Oichi: >:(
Mitsuhide: Come on MC, she's not leaving, it's time to go.
Oichi: You bastard, I know you only brought MC to persuade me to go back.
MC: Oh D:
Oichi: Isn't it sad? Even though I'm the mistress of the castle, I can't trust a soul, and no-one trusts me.
Everyone thinks of her as "Nobunaga's snake woman". She asks MC to stay and help her cook her husband MC's Absolute Victory Bowl. MC agrees, but Mitsuhide says it's too dangerous "for those of us in the Oda clan" and forces her to leave.
MC: Is there nothing we can do to save her?
Mitsuhide: That's just how things are.
MC: You're really ok leaving her to die?!
Mitsuhide: Of course not. That's why...why we brought you to persuade her.
MC: Liar! I know you have the kindest heart out of all of these men!
Mitsuhide, sadly: There are times you have to leave your heart out of things.
MC: If you give up your heart...you give up all your reasons to want to be alive...I don't ever want to see you make that choice. What's the point of having dreams come true if it means you lose your heart? I can't put myself on the battlefield to die for my dreams like you. But what I can do, I'm doing.
And then she turns around and goes back towards Oichi.
Mitsuhide: Stop!
MC: I'm not in the Oda clan any more, so what I do has nothing to do with you, now does it?
Mitsuhide, to himself, overcome with self hatred: ...I just wanted to keep you safe...
aww.
So! Oichi's husband is Lord Nagamasa of the Azai clan. The enemy of Nobunaga's that persuaded him to turn was Lord Yoshikage of the Asakura clan.
Oichi: It's too dangerous, why did you come back?
MC: To prove to Lord Nagamasa's clan that you love him! With COOKING!
Any time I open the game after 11pm Mitsuhide looks at me balefully, in his pajamas, and tells me that lack of sleep is bad for your health. WELL SO IS WORKING FOR NOBUNAGA, MITSUHIDE, BUT YOU DON'T SEE ME JUDGING YOU.
Nagamasa's men are surprisingly nice to MC as she goes to deliver the tart she helped Oichi cook.
...he's kinda cute, too. He's super charmed that "his Oichi" cooked him something.
He's in a temple full of violent farmer monks. That night one of them tries to abduct MC but then is knocked out, and a figure comes out of the darkness....
Me: Mitsuhide?
BUT NO, IT'S SAITO FROM HAKUOKI
ok not really but he does look a lot like him.

Literal quote from MC "He's a what now?" OH THAT'S RIGHT Ieyasu said he had ninja in the castle, to protect Oichi and spy on the clan.
My login screen is Ieyasu saying "Hanzo is...very good at his job". HMM.
I was doing the maths on how many skill points I needed to finish this route vs how long I have to earn them, and not liking the answers I got. But I just got a bunch as part of the "first 30 logins" rewards. Which is good, but means the next route may be even more annoying, unless I get to keep the points.
Nobunaga: TIME TO MURDER ALL THOSE DAMN MONKS >:(
A room full of Buddhist advisors: D:
But Mitsuhide just calmly explains their strategy for efficiently killing Lord Nagamasa's clan and allies.
MC is bonding with some nice monks in the kitchens when Yoshikage comes in and is all THIS SNAKE OF THE ODA CLAN WILL POISON YOU.
Ha! I can't find the link but yesterday I saw this satirical video about That Guy In Biographical Movies Who Says The Now Famous Hero Will Never Make It, and that perfectly describes the energy of Yoshikage being all "That fool Nobunaga thinks he can UNIFY JAPAN as if THAT will ever happen".
Nagamasa says he loves Nobunaga like a brother. But his clan has a connection with Yoshikage's clan and he couldn't leave them to be slaughtered.
Hanzo: I'm going back to Lord Nobunaga, and won't be able to protect you any more.
MC: That's fine, I'll be travelling with Lord Nagamasa, he'll keep me safe.
Hanzo: :/
She gives him a letter for Mitsuhide, asking him to stop Nobunaga for Oichi's sake, anhd giving him back the protection charm her gave her.
Mitsuhide: She's with Nagamasa, who we are about to attack? Why didn't you bring her back with you?!
Hanzo: That wasn't my job.
Mitsuhide: D: D: D:
And then I get a letter from Nobunaga saying "Send the recipe for Castella, the cooks here back it wrong". GOT YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT THERE, I SEE, NOBUNAGA.
A little info sheet about the temple MC and Nagamasa are at, Enryaku-ji. A cute little Mitshuhide chibi talks about his failed attempts to stop Nobunaga from murdering all the monks there.
The next info sheet is apparently called "The burning of Enryaku-ji". My home screen is now Nobunaga in armour cheerfully talking about his plans to raze it.
Nagamasa warns MC of the coming siege. She wonders if it will be Lord Nobunaga that kills her, or Mitsuhiude, or some other member of the Oda clan. She blames herself, and regrets the harsh words she spoke to Mitsuhide the last time they spoke.
Mitsuhide asks to speak to Nobunaga alone and Hideoyoshi, Inuchiyo and Katsuie worry that he seems really upset. I am distracted by how much skin Katsuie and Inuchiyo's armour shows, it seems very impractical. *googles sengoku armour* yeah that all looks rather more...armoury, and less like an armour themed bikini.
Anyway.
Nobunaga punches Mitsuhide through the door, then strides over, shouting "You're asking me to change our plans for a single woman?!".
Mitsuhide: All I'm asking for is time...just enough to get MC and the innocent monks.
Nobunaga: And what if, in that time, they break through our ranks? Then it won't be you dying, but those on the front lines. Is what you're trying to do worth the blood of thousands of your Clan? You have your orders. Follow them...or draw! *draws his sword*
Katsuie and Hideyoshi hold back Nonunaga while Mitsuhide bolts, and takes to his horse, determined to protect MC.
She, meanwhile, is having a sleepless night. She hears the guards saying "They've come!" but also "There's just one? Let's send Nobunaga his head! A shame, he's an admirable fighter..." Suddenly the building catches fire, and the guards accuse MC of helping "him" get away. A blade falls towards her...only to be stopped by a blood spattered Mitsuhide, who gives her a weak smile. He knocks down the soldiers attacking her and offers her his hand.
But then Nagamasa appears.
Nagamasa: Mitsuhide...you always have to make an entrance.
Mitsuhide, standing in front of MC: Surrender.
Their swords clash.
I have a letter from Hanzo saying to leave, aw.
And now I need 3000 more points to see the ending. That'll take about 24 energy tickets and I have like...70. Every hour I wait saves me two tickets though. Hmm, let's see how long I can be bothered waiting...
Aw, a cute happy four year anniversary message from a bunch of characters, including several I don't recognised, but also Oichi!
LUCKY ME I got insomnia which gave me plenty of opportunities to gather points :/
oh man I need love tickets TOO?? Screw it, I have a few hoarded and it's 12 hours until they reset. Let's do this.
...ah, Part 1. Oh well, I only have 12 hours to wait until Part 2...
Anyway.
Nagamasa wounds the already bloody Mitsuhide, and seems ready to strike, but MC cries out and Mitsuhide gains the strength to gain the upper hand. MC cries out not to kill him either and Mitsuhide asks him to surrender, then eventually lets him go.
Nobunaga arrives in time to see this and is pissed, but then Mitsuhide says he has to protect the woman he loves and Nobunaga laughs and lets it go? Ah, he may not have realised Mitsuhide deliberately let him go rather than just being too injured to stop him.
Anyway. Nobunaga goes off to cheerfully murder a bunch of monks.
Mitsuhide tells Rei he he didn't want to lose her, even if it meant turning Nobunaga and the whole country against him.

He tells her he loves her, and kisses her, and then falls into unconsciousness.
It's after the battle. The doctor says he may never wake, and MC sadly talks to him about the feelings she never got to express, and kisses him. But then he turns out to have already been awake, much to MC's embarrassment. When she tries to play it off he pulls her into bed with him and stares into her eyes, telling her not to look away, and that he isn't going to run any more from how much he loves her. He kisses her gently, and then their kisses grow more passionate.
THE END
...of Season 1. The thing for Season 2 is "how will Nobunaga react when he finds out Mitsuhide disobeyed his orders" but I'm pretty happy with this as an ending! Things will just get messier from here politically, and they're in a good place emotionally. I bet Ieyasu is Up To Something, though.
Anyway, that was sweet! I didn't love the end as much as I might have liked but I'm feeling kinda depressed and anhedonistic right now so it's probably not the game's fault. Also that is an A+ kiss CG.
I'm not sure what I'll do next, reading these long arcs so spread out is really annoying. I might pop in to grind for coins when I'm bored, and play short events, but I'm not sure I'll play any more of the full length routes, at least not for a while.
Also I'm just not sure Sengoku warlord RPF romance is my jam. I like the writing and characterisation in this in and of itself, but am pretty sure I'd have liked it a lot more as a fictionalised fantasy story. I've tried this, Demon's Bond, and a little bit of Destiny's Princess(*), and in every case the love interests being historical warlords or their retainers felt like a down side. I enjoyed Hakuoki, but that was about doomed retainers who didn't really achieve anything politically (and also they were vampires). People who murdered their way to running a country, or helped someone else do that, are waaay less appealing.
(*)also Sakura in Chaos but that was simply bad.
The advantage of RPF is all the interesting people and relationships to crib off, which this game does benefit from. Plus obviously the intended audience has an existing attachment/interest, but that doesn't apply to me, and anyway I pretty much only enjoy RPF when I don't have any strong feelings about the people going in.
Also idk, considering how much I like Hakuoki I'm clearly not against people using violent historical events as a backdrop for romance, and this is all stuff from like 500 years ago anyway, but something about the tone doesn't work for me. Maybe it's the app itself, with all it's fluffy gacha cheese framing blood-spattered warriors.
But I may feel differently when I'm in a better mood. We'll see!
EDIT: oops looks like there might be an epilogue.
EPILOGUE:
This was super cute, they're both endearingly fond of each other and happy together. Nobunaga sends Mitsuhide to build and man a castle outpost. Mitsuhide asks MC what kind of kitchen she wants, and she gets very excited at the possibilities. He shyly asks her to make him dinner, and says he wants to meet her family.
He gently picks her up and puts her on the bed, then asks her to be his wife. She thinks about how being the wife of a samurai means always worrying, and gently touches the scar he got on his chest protecting her. But he promises to always stay by her side, and she happily assents. Then he kisses her gently, checking that she's into it, and they have sex (ENTHUSIASTIC CONSENT? IN MY OTOME??)
The next morning she wakes up and affectionately watches his sleeping face and then he wakes up and they are super cute together.
THE END
Ooh and a new "shadow" prologue unlocked! Exciting :D
And that's the end of Season 1!

Exciting :D
