OMG I FINALLY GOT THIS TO WORK THANKS TO
chrry WHO IS THE BEST
It turns out I hadn't misunderstood the walkthrough, I just had to play the whole thing from the start with a new game, without using save files or the flowchart even a little. Which involved a lot of boring watching the screen flicker with the "skip read" function on, but it WORKED so I am HAPPY.
Anyway, my sense of INTENSE FRUSTRATION AND ACCOMPLISHMENT aside, it was pretty sweet. And even though it took so long I'm glad I waited until I could get it to work, so the rest of the Yamato path is relatively fresh in my mind.
Spoilers below.
This is from memory.
The only different choice between this and the bad ending (asides from needing to REPLAY THE WHOLE DAMN GAME) is Beniyuri wondering what connection Monshiro has to Yamato, which leads to a very shippy moment between her and Monshiro.
One reason this ending was frustrating to unsuccessfully attempt so many damn times is that it kicks in after the first epilogue, so it took forever to know I'd failed.
Anyway. Hikage has been defeated. Natsuki is dead for real. Everyone else has woken from their comas, though Kazuya is bed-ridden for now.
Ai (Beniyuri) is just thinking she should check in with everyone when she gets a message from Takuya (Yamato). It's so weird seeing him in a (very rumpled) school uniform with a cute little neck ribbon, I got used to thinking of these guys as young-ish adults when they had amnesia and the fact that they're high-schoolers never entirely stuck in my head.
Takuya says he's been learning to face things instead of running away, and finally tells her what he did to Kazuya (Monshiro). He liked Ai, and was jealous that Kazuya got along so easily with her when he kept getting into fights with her without meaning to.
He says the only reason he visits Kazuya is out of guilt, and that he's a terrible person.
Ai: That's not true. I've seen how you look at him, like a caring older brother. I remember how determined you were to get back to him even when you'd lost your memories.
Takuya asks her to come with him as he apologises to Kazuya.
Takuya calmly listens to his apology, and then says in a monotone "You're an idiot. But I'm an idiot too, so we make a good pair."
Takuya: I was jealous of you too. You were always popular and good at everything. I made you jealous about Ai paying attention to me on purpose. And you've suffered as much for the past ten years as I have...we should put it behind us.
Ai tries to apologise as well but Kazuya cuts her off and gives her back her ribbon, saying the thought of giving it back to her gave him the strength he needed to survive. He gives a shy smile and asks her come visit him sometimes.
Ai: If you look at me like that I'm going to visit you all the time! Every day! Even if you ask me to stop! Is that what you want?
Kazuya: Yes :)
And then he whispers to her "Thank you for saving Takuya. Please take care of him."
Takuya and Ai walk home. He gets endearingly self conscious and then blushingly says he has one more thing he's been hiding: it's not that he liked her, past tense. He likes her.
He talks about how he recognised himself in her, even when they'd lost their memories, but that she gave him strength, and inspired him to finally face Kazuya. And now he wants her by his side.
They talk about projecting their own insecurities on each other and being unwilling to move on or change, and recognising this in each other but also helping each other grow, I didn't quite follow but it was interesting.
She says she feels like she can face anything life throws at her, no matter how surprising, as long as he's beside her. Then she apologises for saying so much?
Takuya: How about this, then? *kiss* Can you face it by my side?
Ai: AHHH??? TOO SURPRISING!!!
Takuya: Ok, what if it's not surprising? *significant pause so she has a chance to say no*
Ai : :)
Takuya: *kiss* Now say how you feel about me.
Ai: ...(COME ON ISN'T IT OBVIOUS DO I REALLY HAVE TO SAY IT)
Takuya: So do you like me or what?
Ai: YES I LIKE YOU.
Takuya: :D
Anyway, that was really nice. And I'm glad we saw Takuya and Kazuya work through things a bit. Even if it in no way undermined my tendency to ship Takuya/Ai/Kazuya >.>

Yeah every time I thought about going straight from Yamato's angsty ending to ANOTHER angsty ending I was just...maybe I'll try for the good ending again...
