Another attempt at Jisoo, this time more to see the story through to the end than because I was expecting to actually enjoy it.

And in that context it was...mostly ok? I think they were trying to say something clever about dubcon and not really succeeding, but he did make her happy overall and there were some cute moments.

Content notes: Abusive parents, controlling and somewhat violent love interest, consent issues, meh treatment of disability

After poking my brain I realised what actually bothered me last time was less that Jisoo is rapey (though he is) and more that he sets off abuse red flags. "The girl I like is crying so I will cause her physical pain and accuse her of cheating, based on zero evidence and even though we're not even dating" is just...red flag doesn't even cover it!

But I feel like I can deal with that today.

SO. LET'S DO THIS THING.

*cheers self up by giving Jiwoo piles of dust as a gift and having him get all affronted*

Heejung and Heejae finish English cram school, and Heejae thinks about how she's been going to these schools for so long she feels anxious if she doesn't go, like she'll fall behind. And then Jisoo shows up and starts giving her crap about Heejae being her boyfriend! Because Jisoo is an ass! Who followed her there and then hung around waiting for two hours??

Jisoo, baring his teeth: Who the hell is he? And why is his smell always all over you?!
Heejae, cowering behind Heejung: But...but I didn't yet-

Heejung actually gets angry at Jisoo! On Heejae's behalf :/ (Not that Jisoo isn't being an ass to Heejae as well) But she does wonder to herself why she puts up with him and cares so much about explaining these misunderstandings when she really shouldn't need to. GOOD QUESTION HEEJUNG.

Heejung: Why do you act like this towards me?
Jisoo: Do I have to say it in words?
Heejung: YES
Jisoo: I like you. So don't hang out with other guys.
Heejung: !!!!!
Jisoo: What about you?
Heejung, really liking him but too overcome with embarrassment to speak: UHHHHHH?????
Jisoo: You don't have to answer :(
Me: Aw, I actually feel sorry for Jisoo. Use your words, Heejung!
Jisoo: If you don't like me I'll make you like me.
Me: SO CLOSE, JISOO
Heejung: (I should tell him. Why I don't mind letting him do as he pleases with me...) Me too.

He smiles at her, surprised, and then they walk home hand in hand.

Ok, he's still awful, but she seems to be into it. For some reason.

Heejung is sketching on the couch on a rainy day. Jisoo comes and curls up next to her in his cat form which I think is the first time there's been a shippy scene post transformation involving the animal form of a love interest.

Every time she thinks about how the great thing about art is that noone grades it, I wonder how she's going to handle art school on the Jieun path...

Jisoo turns back into a human and...ok he's a little obnoxious at first but then he blushes and says he wants to know everything about her: her favourite food, movie, future plans etc. "At first I thought you were a nerd...but you have no passion for school. Why do you work so hard at things you don't enjoy? You look so much prettier and alive when you draw."

Jisoo leans closer. Heejung is embarrassed and nervous but super into it. And then...

NAKED JIYEON COCKBLOCK

Heejung is way more embarrassed than a single 21 year old being caught almost kissing in her own home has any need to be. Jiyeon approaches her, wearing only a towel, pretending innocent concern and cheerfully ignoring Jisoo's death glare.
Jiyeon, in his real voice: Oh ho, I see. Then I'll give up. My intention wasn't even good anyway. And I'm used to not having my wishes granted.

Jisoo's expression softens and he stands up and puts his hand on Jiyeon's head. They have a moment of silent communication.
Heejung: Jiyeon, are you al-
Jiyeon, in his cute voice: Strawberry! Buy me strawberry shampoo!!
Heejung: What you said before-
Jiyeon: I'm going to be sleeping out a lot of nights from now on. Don't worry, everyone's nice to me because I'm a cute cat =^_^=

And then to avoid any further questions he turns into a cat, jumps onto the sofa, curls up and closes his eyes, because he really is a cat.

*continues to have Jisoo/Jiyeon feelings despite both of them being terrible*

We see Jiyeon telling the others that Jisoo has won the game. He's planning on leaving the house now and suggests the others also find "ways to escape". Jiwoo is characteristically irritated at having wasted his time.
Jieun: Eddie...don't cry...
Jihae: At least I will escape my painful memories.

Haaaa the return of "poke" as an affectionate gesture. And for this level's gift he gives her...cat drugs, lol.

It feels like the dates on all paths are written according to a single outline, eg 2 hearts + university= LI mentions Heejung's school being on a mountain, 2 hearts + restaurant = LI asks to be fed cake.

Heejung asks Jisoo why Jiyeon is out all hours and avoids talking to her.
Jisoo, sadly: I don't know...there is no happy ending to this game after all :(
He steps closer, with the same lonely expression on his face Jiyeon had.
Jisoo: I guess I should thank you...or perhaps, say sorry.
Heejung: Explain what you-

He kisses her. It's a nice kiss and she is very much into it. Afterwards she thanks him for saying he liked her, because she always felt she would never be good enough for anyone to like her. He looks at her sadly and then pulls her into a hug.

I am genuinely having to try to hit his standards for Art etc. On a meta level I don't think he has any right to be so picky, but gamewise it's good to have a bit of a challenge for the final path.

Heejung has always dreamed of sharing a Christmas with the people she cares about: making Christmas cake, singing carols, and talking all night in a warm, cosy home.

But everyone's gone out, even Jisoo. It belatedly occurs to her that maybe she should have TOLD the aliens what Christmas is instead of just assuming they'd be around.

But then Jisoo arrives home. He is VERY EXCITED FOR CAKE and offers to help. Heejung is understandably reticent but decides it will be a nice Christmas bonding activity. Jisoo's baking instincts are all awful but he follows directions well.

Jisoo: So this Christmas thing is a big deal, huh? I saw some amazing stuff outside :D
Heejung: You mean the trees and decorations? You see, it was originally a religious holiday, but-
Jisoo: I meant all the kissing :D Is it a day where you're supposed to do that?
Heejung: I...guess...
Jisoo: Let's do it.
Heejung: Do...what?
Jisoo: THAT
Heejung: What's 'that'?

Kim Heejung, you are 21 years old, you know exactly what "that" is.

Jisoo: It's ok that you don't know. In fact, it's better that way.

JISOO WHY MUST YOU BE THIS WAY

She freezes.

He steps closer and says "Is that a yes or a no?" and she yells "Stop!" and throws a bowl of flour at him.

Jisoo, covered in flour: That was a bit harsh! *sigh* Anyway, have this.

He hands her a slightly flour stained Christmas card. She's utterly delighted.

Heejung: But I think you should take a shower.
Jisoo: We should do it together ;)
Heejung: NO! YOU PERVERTED CAT!!

*scene ends, I decide to imagine they did NOT have sex*

Jisoo: You don't have to try so hard to be perfect. You can leave housework for a day or two, skip classes...your life doesn't have to be so regimented.
Heejung: But I'll fall behind other people!
Jisoo: Who says? And who cares?
Heejung: DOES NOT COMPUTE
Jisoo: You're so smart and cute already...why do you need to become even more perfect? You're already an amazing girl, isn't that enough?

She becomes overwhelmed and embarrassed and tells him to stop but he just keeps on with the DUBCON COMPLIMENTS. Heejung didn't need to be dubconned into everything on the other routes but I guess this one does. I GUESS.

Jisoo talks about having a twelve year old little sister, Lily, and the two of them living alone since their parents died four years ago. He's obviously sad about it and trying not to be. Heejung has always wished for a little sister, but she knows what it's like to repress your pain. Maybe she needs to confront her own.
Heejung: My parents are divorced. They asked me who I wanted to stay with and I didn't understand. Mom said said she couldn't stay with Dad and keep her sanity, and I didn't want to see her having a hard time...so I lived with her. But as soon as I did, I felt like I'd lost both of my parents. If someone asks, I say I'm fine, but then I realise I'm not. Sometimes I just lie and say my family is happy...but it hurts. It reminds me of being young and helplessly watching my family fall apart.

She's never felt able to talk about this with anyone before.

She feels Jisoo put his warm, trembling arms around her.
Jisoo: You're warm, but strong. I'm so glad I met you. I'm so glad you chose me. I don't ever want to let you go.

"Heejung sometimes thinks that Jisoo's jealousy isn't all bad"
YES IT IS HEEJUNG

Jisoo affectionately tells Heejung all about how Lily was quiet and nerdy sister, but when Heejung asks who Lily is living with while Jisoo is here he goes quiet.

On a date, Jisoo looks pensive. I have the option to pick "thinking about another girl?" but pick "Worried about something?" and he says "Yeah, Jiyeon". Aww.

Jiyeon really has been gone out of the house since that conversation before. On the plus side it means I can bathe in peace.

Heejung's mother rings to say she's coming to visit and Heejung cleans up all signs of the animals in a panic. She ask Jisoo to take the others out with him for the day. Heejung is left all alone in a clean, silent house. Back to the way things used to be.

Haaa I finally looked up Seoul (where Heejung's mother lives) and Busan (where Heejung lives) on a map and they are about as far apart as it is possible for two Korean cities to be. (Which is still only 3-4 hours by train) I can see why Heejung chose to study in Busan.

Heejung's mother spews a constant stream of criticism at Heejung. "Anything less than 100 was average. Mom went out of her way to make me special, but now I've become the average person she always talked about."

Heejung: Mom...Mom, why did you come here today? Just to criticize me, and tell me again that I'm just not special?
Mom: Don't talk to me that way. Do you know how much I've invested in you? I know you're a failure but since you're my child I came to check on you.
Heejung: A failure, a success...who gets to decide that? You?

And then her mother slaps her. It doesn't even hurt, after the pain from her words.
Mom: I did the best I can. I'm tired of being concerned about you. I'm going to live my own life now.

And then she walks out and slams the door.

Jiyeon is the first to come back home, smelling of strawberry shampoo. He says he's going to live "with someone nice", but Heejung knows this isn't true. And all she can manage to say is "alright."

Seeing how sad she looks, Jiyeon tells her to talk to Jisoo when he comes home. It's sweet how hard Jiyeon ships Jisoo/Heejung. I had a moment of annoyance at Jisoo for not doing the same, but while Jisoo is also a shitty boyfriend, unlike Jiyeon that shittiness is obvious from the start. And whatever Jisoo's other flaws he isn't the sort to leave you on the hook for a TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLAR MOB DEBT, so.

Heejung is left alone feeling like an unloveable failure whose life has no meaning or direction.

Jisoo comes home and is concerned to see how miserable she looks.
Heejung: Jiyeon left...will you leave me one day too?
Jisoo: ...
Heejung: What?! If you're going to leave one day, just go now! Don't make me even more attached to you!

What she really wants is for him to give her a warm hug and say he'll stay by her side. Aww, I feel for both of them here (even if...he was signing up for this from the start)

Heejung: Why did you guys appear? What do you want from me?!
She feels like a child throwing a tantrum, demanding pity.

Jisoo: Why are you acting like this?

He's annoyed, but she knows he'll always accept her, even when she's screaming hysterically. She tells him about her mom.
Heejung: Am I a bad person? Is that why everyone gets dissappointed in me and leaves?
Jisoo, holding her by the shoulders: No! Say that again and I'll get angry! Jiyeon left for his own reasons. And you have to promise me to tell me when you're this upset about things. I'm going to be worried if you don't.
me: Aww
Jisoo: If you don't promise, I'm going to kiss you without permission from now on!
Me: You know what, that's...almost sweet, in a rapey sort of way.
Jisoo, blushing: I mean...you can depend on me when you're having a hard time. Stop acting so tough.

She has trouble imagining telling someone about her problems and having them listen, and care. But then Jisoo hugs her and she thinks that maybe she can, that he accepts even the ugly sides of her.

(Hejjung, you have no ugly sides. You are an innocent, if inarticulately obtuse, angel, and Jisoo is a brute. But his hugs do make you happy so, yeah, sure)

Heejung is talking about all her worries with Jisoo and feeling better about everything. I understand why he says "Don't worry, Foodgiver, I won't leave as long as you keep feeding me" but nnng.

She worries about Jiyeon, and Jisoo actually thinks to get jealous.
Heejung, who is apparently into that, god help her: Jiyeon is kind of cute...;)
Jisoo: Cute won't bring home the bacon.
Me: That is very clearly not true.

Heejung asks about Jisoo's sister, wanting to know more about him. He has to talk around the contract, and sadly wonders if he'll ever be able to tell her everything.

Lily was always small, and nearly got eaten by (implicitly sentient!) wolves. Their parents were out a lot "because cats are like that". She loved to collect shiny things but then two years ago, while Jisoo was out fishing, started to lose her sight. He blamed himself for not being there. The doctors said it was incurable, and would eventually kill her. So she gave her shiny things to Jisoo, including the necklace Jisoo always wears.
Me: Aww :(
Lily: I was going to give this to my first boyfriend, but you're the most precious person to me.
Me: GAME WHY MUST YOU BE THIS WAY

Jisoo sounds really heartbreakingly sad, though. He was utterly determined to make her better, and we hear a succession of voices: a doctor telling him to give up hope. A slimy sounding man offering a "cure" for a price. Another man telling Jisoo that if he needs the money that bad, he should be prepared to do some "dirty work"...and then Lily telling Jisoo to stop, and let her just die.

Heejung: Then your sister is... D:
Jisoo: She's alive. But she's blind, and can't walk. And...she's somewhere far away from me. Somewhere I can't go.
Heejung, wanting to cheer him up: I'm sure she'll get better.
Me: *deep, incurably ill sigh*

Jisoo: Should I...thank you? I'm afraid of falling for you. I think the only thing I can do for you right now is laugh next to you and cheer you up.
Heejung: Well you're doing a good job. For a cat ;)

Heejae says he hasn't spent much time with Heejung lately and asks her to dinner. And her only worry is she'll be late feeding the animals? HEEJUNG.

Aww so it sounds like Heejung's art is always the star of the Art Club's yearly exhibition, but Heejung never goes because she doesn't want to hear people talking about her work. I was feeling quite positively towards Heejae and his support of Heejung's art...until he made an obvious attempt to try to get her drunk, and she felt too awkward to say no >:(

DID JISOO JUST SMASH THE RESTAURANT WINDOW

Heejung, "How did you know I was here?" is not a good starting line when confronted with a jealous boyfriend. Jisoo is typically assholeish but does at least not suspect Heejung of deliberately cheating, he just thinks she's naive to trust Heejae's intentions. And to be fair, he's right.

It's a while later and Heejae has been avoiding Heejung.
Heejae: So was that guy...your boyfriend?
Heejung, embarrassed: *nods*
Heejae: Oh :( Well, you should bring him to the exhibition!
Me: Aw, getting her to bring Jisoo along to offer moral support? Maybe you're not so bad, Heejae.
Heejae: If I can't compete with him in height or looks I'll compete with art!
Me: Never mind.

But the idea of having Jisoo or anyone else see her finished pieces and knowing they're hers is too much.

It's the day of the exhibition. Heejung plans to avoid the building entirely. But as she's leaving to go out, Jisoo grabs her and says they should go to the exhibition.
Jisoo: Your "friend" told me.
Heejung: You didn't hurt Heejae did you?
Jisoo: No. I just did some investigation. Like whether he was planning on making a move on you. I can't help that you spend too much time outside, making me worried about you.

Even Heejung thinks this is a bit much. (Also he didn't do it here but he talks about wanting to tie her up to keep her next to him sometimes)

Haha Jisoo is convinced that Heejae's job delivering food for his family' chicken restaurant is "some sort of chicken trafficking".

Just when I think Jisoo's just going to drag her off despite her protests he says "I know you're scared. Silly. Not everyone is like your mother. No one's going to pressure you to draw better."
Heejung: Liar!
Jisoo: If you keep arguing I'll kiss you ;)

So she lets herself be dragged along, acknowledging that deep down she always wanted to go. And she has Jisoo by her side.

When they get there she can't find her art, but Jisoo confidently leads her towards a crowd of people...and sure enough, they're all crowded around her art. She hears all sorts of comments, both good and bad. She realises she wasn't really afraid of hearing people's comments on her art. She was afraid of doing something she liked.

Wait is this whole route exploring the appeal of dubcon, as a way for women who've been taught not to want sex to enjoy sexy fiction? That's an interesting idea but it's not coming across very well.

Her mom told Heejung she could do the things she liked after she found success. So Heejung drew in secret and told herself it was ok if it wasn't acknowledged. She didn't want to be told to stop.

But people are enjoying her art. And noone's criticisng her, or telling her she shouldn't be doing this.

She feels incredibly grateful to Jisoo. He hugs her and smiles.
Jisoo rests his head on the head of a happy Heejung, his arms around her. They stand in a busy art gallery looking at a picture offscreen. Heejung says "I don't care about how others looked at us"

The final stretch. Jisoo is clearly aware of the passing of time and sad at the idea of letting Heejung go. He also often implies that he wants to have sex with her but doesn't want to take advantage. Interestingly I now have the option to have Heejung respond more positively to his flirtation instead of always getting embarrassed/annoyed/confused.

Aww he gave her art supplies as a gift.

Jisoo meets with the wizard.
Wizard: Are you enjoying the game? It's nearly over.
Jisoo: I know :(
Wizard: At this rate, you'll win! A happy ending with his sister, how touching.

Jisoo's wish was to cure Lily. When he finds out there's only a month left, he asks for him and Lily to be able to stay in this world, worried what will happen to Heejung when he leaves. The wizard says he'll say if it's possible the day before the contract ends?

"Liberating people from their painful memories is just part of my volunteer work" this guys is SUCH AN ASSHOLE.

Heejung wonders sadly what the others are up to, especially Jiyeon. But then she tells Jisoo she's thinking of going to art school.
Jisoo: You'll be amazing. You're the almighty nerd, after all.
Heejung: I'm not sure that's a compliment :p
Jisoo: But promise me one thing: that you won't give up trying to be happy. Even if I'm not here.
Heejung: Are you going somewhere? D:
Jisoo: ...no. But just promise me.
Heejung: No. You're always getting me to promise things.

So he gives her the necklace he got from Lily, the only thing he has to give. "If you're having a hard time, look at it and think of me. And don't cry. Don't let your mother's words bring you down, have faith in yourself."
She gets up the courage to try to fully express her feelings of love for him, despite her embarrassment. He pulls her into a hug, clearly a little embarrassed himself. She thinks "My cute cat" and wishes the moment could last forever.

Ahahaha omg. So I went to the balcony to do laundry and Jisoo approaches Heejung with a MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE saying "I don't really understand this. But if you sign it, you're mine, right? I wrote our names". I couldn't read the Korean but there was definitely some stuff crossed out and overwritten, was this someone else's marriage certificate?? Or did he just get one of their names wrong at first?

"That apron...Don't tempt me. I'm not going to be the gentleman I was at Christmas"

Phew! Didn't satisfy all his requirements until the 14th of May, that was getting a little tense.

Oh my gosh and the next time Heejung went to the balcony he OFFERED TO HELP WITH THE LAUNDRY. be still my heart.

Jisoo meets with the wizard again.
Jisoo: What about my favour? I'll pay anything!
Wizard: What I want is...a part of your memory...

Heejung sits in her bedroom worrying about life after graduation. But then she holds the necklace Jisoo gave her and smiles. She's not going to give up. She's going to be happy.

Jisoo comes in and says, softly and sadly, "I want to be with you tonight."
Heejung: What?! What are you talking about, go to bed!
Jisoo: I won't do anything. I promise. Please...
Heejung, seeing how sad he looks: Ok, if you sleep on the floor...

Then he turns off the light, picks her up, and puts her in bed next to him.
Heejung: Hey!

He holds her, and they reminisce for a while.
Jisoo: Heejung, I promise, no matter where you are, no matter what you do, I'm going to find you.

(I think this is the first time he's used her actual name)

Heejung: Jisoo, are you alright?
Jisoo: Don't forget, whatever you do, you have to be happy.
His eyes look so sad. She reaches out her arms and hugs him tightly. She feels nervous.
Heejung: Are you going somewhere? If you are, just tell me.
Jisoo: ...I'm sorry.

Heejung wakes alone. And in the loungeroom, she finds the three rabbits minus their rabbit ears, all acting confused.
Jiwoo: Hey woman, explain! Is this Kanos, the city of the merchants?
Jihae: We're from the Kingdom of Grass.
Jiwoo: But you're not rabbits!
Jihae: We woke to find we have human ears instead.
Jiwoo, touching his head: MY EARS D:
Heejung: Have you forgotten everything? Do you remember your names?
Jiwoo: My name is Miran! I am the son of one of the most successful bankers in Kanos!
Heejung: But your name is Jiwoo :(

I mean strictly speaking, his name is Miran...

Heejung looks frantically for Jisoo. Remembering his behaviour before, she suspects he knew this would happen. So why didn't he tell her?
Heejung: Stupid cat ;_;

Heejung finds herself facing the wizard. He says some CREEPY ASS SHIT.
Wizard: Did you have an enjoyable time with your cute pets? I prepared that special event for you.
Heejung: Are you from Jisoo's world?
Wizard: Let's say I am from the boundary between the two worlds.
Heejung: Are you the Wizard who made the contract? Why is everyone's memory gone? What do you want? Where's Jisoo?
Wizard: You make me sound like a villain. I am the kind wizard who grants wishes, and only receive a fair share in return. I usually take memories associated with sadness or anger. But the most valuable memory is the one about love.
Heejung: So the animals had their wishes come true?
Wizard: The players in this game are different to my usual clients...The winner who receives your love goes back to his own world, with his wish fulfilled. But the losers forget their memories related to you or their wishes, and become humans to live forever in this world.

Does that mean Jihae forgot his ex? And on other paths, Jisoo forgets Lily?? D:

Heejung realises that Jisoo won, and that his wish must have been to cure Lily. She remembers him telling her "thank you". Did he ever really have feelings for her?

She thinks back on their time together and decides he was sincere. The necklace he gave her is proof. She grumpily thinks "stupid cat, why aren't you here to explain everything when I need you? If you say you can't tell me because of the contract I'll punch you in the stomach."

Heejung: Why did you make this game?
Wizard: I wanted to see you...in love, in despair, in sorrow.
Heejung: I don't even know you!
Wizard: But I know you very well.

He forces her to look into eyes.
Wizard: Only those with a desperate wish can see me. What is yours?
Heejung: ...Jisoo. Give him back. You can take my memory.
Me: *tenses for double memory loss tragedy*
Wizard: Oh my. Your one wish...and I can't grant it. The black cat didn't go back to his world. But if you know your wish has been fulfilled, I may never get to see you again. As long as you have a desperate wish, you'll be with me in your dreams.

uuurgh then he says some other creepy stuff, ending with "I love you".

Closing credits!

Lily, wearing a Cheritz sweatshirt: This way! I just saw a woman wearing my necklace! The one you said you can't remember where you put it! Maybe she's someone you loved.
Jisoo: Pfft.
Lily: You call yourself a man? It's been three years since we came here and you never once had a girlfriend!
Jisoo: What's important is that we're well adapted here, healthy and happy.
Lily: Yeah, becoming a human was weird but I am down for being able to see and walk. Do you really not remember anything about how that happened?
Jisoo: Just the name "Jisoo".
Lily: Hey the woman went into that building with a sign saying "Talented new artist Heejung Kim's exhibition"
Jisoo: Stay with me, you'll get lost!
Lily: I'm seventeen! You worry too much :P
Jisoo: LOOK OUT FOR STRANGERS OK?! Hmm. So, a woman with a necklace...wait, this is...

There is an image of a dandelion, maybe Heejung's painting? "The memories of you tormented me. But I remembered my promise to you to never give up. Thank you for changing me. Wherever you are, I hope you're happy. You don't need to support me any more, I'm fine by myself. I'll be happy too. Goodbye, my amazing black cat."

Jisoo, quietly, to himself: no matter where you are, no matter what you do, I'm going to find you...I'm going to keep that promise now.

THE END

That...worked for me by the end? Mostly? It's a bit sad the final CG doesn't show them together but Jisoo does look pretty cute with his hair in a little ponytail.

Also...idk, he hit some weird "working class ethnically oppressed rogue" tropes.

The voice actor Sukjung Yang speaks more lightly and quickly than Jisoo. He says "My wife can't hear this, but... I like to draw on personal experience in my roles, and I once dated a girl called Heejung Kim, so..." and that also he thinks Jisoo is a great boyfriend and would date him himself. Honestly, if I was his wife the second one would bother me more lol.

The extra CG is of Jisoo in big 70s sunglasses and leopard print, which does suit him, I guess.

OH WOW. I just realised the Wizard is visible now as the final character in the Bonus section. WELL. SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO, HUH?
