To try and get through my backlog of free/pay what you want indie games I'm going to try reviewing them separately to other stuff.
So, first off: the exploration/collection game Gone Wandering. Short review: cute and fun to explore for a while, but I found the controls frustrating.
Description: A girl, a boat and a whole lot of butterflies.
Gone Wandering is a relaxing collectathon game with puzzle elements, an interesting world to explore, and a Nintendo 64 era aesthetic.
Review: this is very cute, and I had fun for a few minutes exploring and catching the odd butterfly. But I found the controls too frustrating to actually try very hard to play the game properly. The developer suggests controller over keyboard but (a) I don't own a relevant controller (b) In the comments someone says controllers don't work on the Mac anyway. Also it only counts total butterflies caught and whether you get the four unique butterflies, I'd have had more fun if it also kept track of whether you caught one of each colour.
Still, it was pretty fun once I decided not to be completionist about it, and the reason I didn't pay for it was that I am usually very bad at real time catching games, so having any fun at all was a happy surprise. The bright, simple, but nicely designed graphics were lovely, and while I failed to piece together any plot/worldbuilding the islands are fun to boat around and ponder.
