alias_sqbrHappily, the reason I haven't posted much is that I've been out having too much fun. The wheelchair has made SUCH a difference. I'm resting tonight since there isn't anything on that really grabbed me and I needed some time out, but I haven't needed the frequent extended breaks I had to take last year, and am in SO much less pain.
The Pan Pacific is pretty accessible and is overall a pretty good venue, though the breakfast buffet was surprisingly mediocre. We got a two for one deal so will keep eating it anyway (a nice big buffet breakfast makes it easier to be happy with carrots and sandwiches during the day) The committee have been quite active about making sure the con is accessible, though alas the downside of asking me to check the room setup is that I've been using the chair for such a short time that I have little more idea what makes for good accessibility than a random able bodied person borrowing a chair would. But we did manage to make things better, if not perfect.
Brandon Sanderson has been a pretty cool guest from what I've seen of him, I wish I'd managed to start any of his books. (Chris Creagh and Marriane De Pieres are cool too, but they always are :))
I think I need a button that says "It's ok to ask about the wheelchair", I can see people doing a double take and biting their tongue before asking "So...um...how have you been?". Some people do ask of course, with varying levels of tact, but overall everyone's been pretty cool about it.
I helped out at the family stream today, taking requests from the kids for what to draw. They asked for dragons OH NO. It was so much fun :)
I like the art show at the back of the dealers room, shoppers can just randomly wander through but it's still really obviously a separate thing, and well lit. Have to see if my piece sold, but no big loss if it didn't. A lot of people did big fancy blockmounted prints, I'd be too afraid of noone buying it.
Chatting to people has been great, the chair plus anxiety meds have made me much more able to be cheerful and chatty instead of grumpy and sleepy and worried I'm annoying people. *waves to everyone*
There was a gold coin donation entry day today, the con was busy but not in a bad way, I hope some of the new people enjoyed their taste and come back again in future years.
Shoujo and Josei panel on Monday, other than that I am a free agent.
