Stuff I've read recently
Sep. 24th, 2009 06:12 pmEcho Vol 1: Terry Moore (graphic novel)
Somewhere during Dollhouse I reached my limit for sad girls with superpowers beyond their control, so I really wasn't in the mood for the premise of this, especially the way the superarmour just happens to work in a way which means she ends up topless in a metal breastplate. Not bad for what it is, I guess.
Midsummer Moon, Laura Kinsale (romance novel)
I came across this list of romance novels for women who refuse to read romance novels and when I saw that the female lead of this was an inventor I decided to give it a go. I wasn't disappointed: while it's definitely a romance novel, with cheesey twists, somewhat dodgy consent issues (eg accidentally swallowing aphrodisiac) and large character flaws which are resolved with a sudden change of heart etc it's basically Agatha Heterodyne meets Mr Darcy, and I turned my brain off and enjoyed it. She has a pet hedgehog! You can read the first few pages here, give it until the end of page 2 :)
