Various interesting figures from Chinese mythology
As encountered by me while poking Wikipedia. I was specifically researching gods for TGCF/Heaven Official's Blessing, but I think this sort of thing is interesting for anyone with an interest in Chinese fantasy or folklore.
I don't know enough to judge if these wikipedia pages are accurate, and if people have better places to read up about this sort of thing, or any other info, I'd love to hear about it!
Tu'er Shen 'the rabbit god', god of homosexuality. This page also discusses traditional m/m marriages in ancient China.
LGBT themes in Chinese mythology is generally pretty interesting: there's a mythical Land Of Lesbians, a separate mythical Land of Matriarchy, and dragons are apparently really into having sex with old men.
Jiutian XuannĂ¼ Goddess of sex and war
Meng Po old lady who serves people soup to forget their former life before they reincarnate
Mazu "she conceded that she would marry the one who defeated her in combat. Using her martial arts skills, however, she subdued them both and, after becoming friends, hired them as her guardian generals."
Zigu The god of toilets, a concubine who was murdered in a toilet by a jealous wife
Shiji Niangniang She started out as a rock then spent 10000 years becoming a human cultivator by sheer stubborn determination, was an evil demoness for a while, then after her death ascended to godhood.
Yaoji I just liked her story
Eccentric figures who help the needy:
Li Tieguai disabled and uses a crutch
Lan Caihe variously depicted as a man, woman, intersex, non-binary, and an amab person in women's clothes
Ji Gong cheerfully drunken poet
